Chapter 60: Finally Defeated.

The battlefield around the West Gate was chaos incarnate. Rubble smoldered where ogres had

fallen, red-eyed wolves twitched in pools of corrupted blood, and the tainted air shimmered like

heated glass.

But towering above it all, Vorgas, the Hollowborn Juggernaut, bellowed with a roar that shook

the city walls.

Its bark-armor glowed with molten veins, crimson mist rolling off its shoulders like steam

venting from a fractured volcano.

Ethan skidded backward across cracked flagstones, Warlord’s Fang raised in a defensive arc.

His chest heaved, sweat beading and dripping from his jaw. His hair was damp and tousled,

shadows dancing across his sharp features.

The monstrous behemoth stomped forward, claws leaving molten footprints in the ground,

each step quaking like a minor earthquake. Its triple eyes pulsed in a dissonant rhythm, like

separate hearts beating out of sync.

"Heh... why the hell aren’t you dying already?" Ethan growled, lips curling into a sharp, slightly

feral grin.

He’d been hacking, slashing, driving his blade into every inch of the beast’s body for minutes

that felt like hours. Each slash sent sparks and ichor flying.

He’d carved chunks of bark and stone away from Vorgas’s limbs. And yet—each wound sealed

over in seconds.

The bark stitched itself shut like flesh. Molten lines knotted together as though they were living

muscle and sinew.

It was like trying to kill a nightmare that refused to wake up.

"This is getting old..." Ethan hissed. "I’m not fighting a monster... I’m fighting a goddamn

repair station."

Vorgas roared, its voice an avalanche of stone and rage, and lunged forward, bringing titanic

fists crashing down in a shockwave.

The ground ruptured into craters beneath its weight, and a thunderous boom rolled out across

the city walls.

Ethan blurred sideways in a streak of shadows, twisting his torso mid-air as rubble exploded

around him.

He landed lightly, his boots scraping sparks across broken stones. He flicked a lock of sweatsoaked hair out of his eyes.

And that’s when he saw it.

For a split second—just as the beast finished its ground slam—the jagged bark plating across

Vorgas’s chest split open like armored petals. Behind it, something pulsed.

A crimson core, beating like a diseased heart. Its glow was raw, angry, and alive.

"Hah... there it is."

Ethan licked his lips, eyes narrowing and sharpening into silver slits. His mind raced back to

the 3D simulation. His own voice echoed inside his skull:

"Core exposure after heavy attacks..."

But there was more. He noticed how, after the monster’s devastating molten roar, steam

spiraled off its plated hide.

Lines of superheated mana shimmered over its torso, creating waves of distortion in the air.

The glow was so intense, crimson reflections burned in Ethan’s eyes.

"Mana surge overload... you’re softer when you’re burning hot, huh..."

Vorgas shifted, clawing at its own chest as if trying to keep the plates shut. Sparks cascaded

down as the armor slammed back into place like interlocking puzzle pieces.

"So your healing’s not infinite after all..." Ethan murmured, his grin stretching wider, teeth

gleaming white against blood-splattered lips. "You’ve got rules."

Vorgas lunged again, swinging an arm as thick as a tree trunk in a wide, horizontal arc. Ethan

dropped low, sliding across the ground in a swirl of shadows.

His body twisted, the world spinning around him in streaks of grey stone and red mist. As he

came up, his sword flicked into a solid block against the beast’s forearm.

CLANG!

The impact rang like a giant’s bell, reverberating through the stones underfoot. A vibration

echoed through the courtyard like the chime of glass under stress.

Suddenly—Vorgas flinched, its massive frame shuddering from head to toe. A tremor rippled

across its hide.

"Wait... was that—"

Ethan’s mind seized on the clue.

"Sonic sensitivity... those internal channels..."

His eyes darted between his blade and the shattered stone pillars littering the courtyard. A

wicked grin curled across his lips.

"Let’s test it."

He darted sideways, shadows swirling around his feet. In one powerful motion, he slammed

the flat of Warlord’s Fang against a toppled marble pillar. The clash produced a piercing

metallic shriek, high-pitched as a banshee’s wail.

Vorgas let out an ear-splitting roar, staggering backward, claws scrabbling at its skull as though

trying to claw the sound out of its own ears. Its molten eyes rolled wildly in their sockets.

"Bingo."

The monster dropped to one knee, groaning like shifting boulders. Ethan’s gaze snapped

downward.

He spotted fractures spider-webbing across the creature’s knee joints, tiny fissures leaking

crimson mana between bark and molten stone.

"Joint cracks... perfect."

Ethan surged forward. His sword blurred, slamming into the creature’s right knee like a black

comet. Bark exploded outward in wooden shrapnel. Steam and sizzling crimson fluid gushed

from the wound.

Vorgas let out a tortured shriek and sank further down, now kneeling fully, its titanic chest

angled forward.

And there it was—the core.

Pulsing. Exposed. Throbbing like a wounded sun.

"Heh... jackpot."

The beast lashed out with a desperate swipe of its claws, but Ethan flipped backward, avoiding

the strike by inches.

Red mist erupted around Vorgas like a bleeding fog. Ethan hissed as the haze licked across his

skin, searing like acid.

But then—his eyes widened. He saw the beast’s own scales blistering and peeling under the

suffocating cloud.

"Corrupted mist rebound... you’re not immune to your own filth, are you?"

Ethan Shadowstepped, flickering behind the monster in a rush of black vapor, slipping clean

past the poisonous fog. Vorgas roared again, gagging on its own mist, its colossal shoulders

shuddering.

"Awww, big guy... you hurting yourself?" Ethan taunted, his grin wicked and wild.

The molten veins across Vorgas’s hide flared brilliantly, pulsing like overcharged circuits. Its

movements slowed, its triple eyes blinking out of sync.

"Mana drain vulnerability... that’s it..." Ethan whispered, his voice a dark purr.

He took a deep breath, aura boiling around him like a storm. Shadows crawled up his arms,

down the blade of Warlord’s Fang, coiling like black serpents.

"Let’s go, big boy," he growled. "Time to end this for good."

Vorgas, wheezing, reared back, crimson energy pooling inside its triple-throated maw for one

last molten roar. The air around its face shimmered with superheated vapor.

But Ethan was already moving.

His eyes glimmered—cold, focused, merciless.

He pivoted, planted one foot on a chunk of rubble, and launched himself skyward, body

spinning like a black shuriken.

"Warlord’s Fang... ABYSS REND!!"

His sword slashed downward, its edge engulfed in swirling shadows so dense they looked like

the jaws of some cosmic beast. The blade bit into molten bark, slicing straight through the

beast’s exposed core.

BOOM!

A detonation of crimson light erupted from Vorgas’s chest, the shockwave flattening goblins

and wolves nearby. Vorgas’s howl echoed like an entire mountain range collapsing.

Chunks of molten bark and stone exploded outward. The beast spasmed violently, its triple

eyes flickering and dying one by one.

A final system chime rang in Ethan’s mind:

[NEW QUEST COMPLETE: Kill Vorgas, the Hollowborn Juggernaut.]

[Rewards:]

[Strength Rank: Permanent +1 Increase]

[Exclusive Equipment Drop (Unknown Tier)]

[Hidden Lore Fragment Unlocked]

Ethan landed in a crouch as Vorgas’s titanic frame began to crumble, dissolving into glowing

fragments that rained down like fiery snowflakes. He rose slowly, exhaling steam in the cold

dawn breeze.

Blood trickled down his cheek, but a ferocious grin split his face.

"Whew... now that was a boss fight."

Around him, silence fell as the remaining beasts froze, eyes wide with primal terror.

But Ethan’s gaze was distant, locked on something far beyond the battlefield.

Because in the shadows of his mind, one certainty remained:

Someone, somewhere, had created that monster.

He flicked open his system, silver eyes gleaming like twin blades.

"Someone’s making monsters like that on purpose..." he murmured, his voice cold as steel.

"And I’m gonna find out who."
