SSS-Knight in a Hero World-Chapter 110: Double faced and single faced
As soon as Tailor laid his eyes on Ferris, he immediately dragged the young man into a more appropriate room for discussion.
Inside a pavilion, he apologized to Ferris profusely, being unable to welcome him properly. "I’ve just been so busy, I should’ve scheduled our meeting better."
Ferris relaxed his eyes, quickly closing down the apologies with a silent nod.
He’s nervous because of Judas, that’s expected.
Before Ferris could get to the main topic, the man interrupted him with more formalities.
"How about some tea?" Tailor brought up.
Unable to refuse, Ferris nodded again and thanked him.
While Tailor was busy preparing the refreshments, Ferris silently watched him, wondering how he should answer him about Judas.
Knowing Judas’ real story and characteristics, he knew he couldn’t answer Tailor with just a he’s dead, he’s alive answer. As the parent, Tailor had the right to know everything.
But that was the main issue.
Does Tailor need to know the truth?
Does he?
Ferris saw the cup of fragrant tea appearing in front of him and gratefully savored it. The harmonious flavor he tasted was enough to make him remember his old duties.
As he rose the ranks, he had an increasing amount of responsibilities, including announcing the death of the people he had under service.
I always told the truth, but I hated that.
Judas as he was before is now technically dead.
Straightening his face, he slowly began telling every moment he had with Judas from the beginning, though he didn’t disclose the sensitive information he knew, especially the events that occurred after he left the waterpark, which was coincidentally the time he met Tailor for the first time.
But after that scene, Ferris abruptly ended the story.
’That was the last time he saw Judas.’
There was a bit of tension between the two, and the time around them seemed to have stopped.
Even Ferris wasn’t aware of how long he talked, so he had no idea what to say after everything was said.
Surprisingly, Tailor seemed to be taking it quite well, at least on the outside.
He hunched over, forming an almost crumbling face. "I see. I wonder how I should tell this to his sister."
Ignoring the room, Ferris quickly jumped on the opportunity. "I’ll do it."
Tailor looked at him in disbelief. There was really no reason for Ferris to do this.
But seeing the determination on his face made it hard for Tailor to refuse, and besides, he himself was in no better condition.
"Soleil’s been ignoring us for the last two days," he grimaced.
"They say that twins are connected on a spiritual level. I wonder if she already knew by then..."
They’re twins? Judas didn’t tell me that...
Tailor reacted to Ferris’ request. To mellow out the dreadful news, Tailor didn’t mind sharing some personal details as a way of relieving his mental turmoil.
After all, Ferris’ long story gave the idea that he was decently close with Judas during that incident.
"I can still remember how I took them in. Those two just appeared at the front entrance of the orphanage in the middle of the night.
I tried tracing their origins, but after figuring out that even their births were nonexistent, I had no choice but to take them in."
"You had a choice?" Ferris asked.
Tailor laughed a little. "I still would’ve taken them. They looked cute together, even though they didn’t look alike."
Ferris awkwardly laughed, but at least he got Tailor’s mood to improve enough to smile.
I also need to mention about this man’s brother.
"Do you love your family, Sir Tailor?"
Hearing that sudden statement, Tailor was taken aback, though he answered quickly. "Yes, of course."
Well, that’s obvious...
"That’s good to hear."
Ferris went silent and looked around the room.
"Did you have a discussion with the Hero Association in this place?" he asked.
Despite being confused, Tailor still answered. "Yes, I did."
In the prophecy, Ferris had numerous encounters with traitors loyal to the Serpent, so he was rather keen on tiny details.
"It feels stuffy, don’t you think?
I saw your gardens on the way here. May I see them again?"
Tailor paused for a moment before hurriedly standing up and agreeing, to Ferris’ delight.
It was fortunate that Tailor managed to catch on to what Ferris was thinking, leading him to one of the larger indoor gardens that he had maintained.
At least there, no device would be able to hear them.
"Is there an issue I need to know?" Tailor asked with a serious look.
Even though he had barely met Ferris, Tailor had already decided to place his trust in the savior of his brother.
"Did you manage to break through Zaku’s ice?" Ferris questioned.
Tailor shook his head and stayed silent for Ferris’ continuation.
Once Ferris had the go-ahead, he quietly explained what he knew about their circumstances in the villain-controlled city.
Tailor listened carefully, and after the end, his serious face transformed into a fearful one.
"The Hero Association officials did ask me about my brother, if he was well or not.
But your story makes it look double-faced."
"How did you answer?"
Tailor sighed, his face turning sour as he looked away.
"I thanked them, obviously. I didn’t know the whole story as well as you did."
If he responded suspiciously instead of naturally at the start, then the Association would assume that Tailor knew the whole story.
It was good that Tailor responded naturally.
Ferris thought about the worst scenario on the Association’s end. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
A group of stranded children calling for help is ignored by the Hero Association.
That’s definitely not a good look for them.
Tailor grabbed his forehead, breaking into a sudden sweat. "Good lord, do you know how powerful the Hero Association is? How can I protect the children in front of that?"
The entire Hero Association...
It’s a no-brainer that they pretty much have a tight grip on everything
But...
Ferris thought about Zaku and his companions’ lives throughout.
Despite the blocking, Zaku was still using the internet just fine.
Why would the Hero Association just block them? I’m sure they can just shut off their entire connection to the internet relatively easily.
He then thought about the city itself. Although it was broken, there were still some large pockets of lawless micro-cities dotted all around.
And where there was a city, there were people. Where there were people, there was the internet.
Even villains need to leave digital footprints sometimes. That’s just an inevitable human need.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a secret, underground ring inside the Hero Association that manages these villain-controlled networks.
A group of rats that don’t disappear, even if they were living under a cat’s box.
But if there really was, then it made sense that their power was limited to only blocking or restricting users, not a total ban on the internet.
Ferris sighed.
Gosh, my head...
Things like these are Alaric’s favorite, and Yaromech’s most hated.
Life would be so easy when you can just stab your problems to death.
"I’m not saying the entire Hero Association is after your back.
But please, watch over your brother."
"You don’t need to tell me," Tailor replied, looking as if he had just lost an entire night’s sleep.
As for Ferris, he felt lighter now that he had said the most important thing.
But he wouldn’t just leave the problem on Tailor’s shoulders. A knight shouldn’t abandon the person he’s protecting, after all.
And besides, Ferris was rather interested in Zaku’s strange blessing.
I already know the three types of blessings.
Eidolon, the mastery of self.Mythotype, the mastery of meaning.Emanation, the mastery of force.
Someone like Elizabeth would be an Emanation user.
Artemis would be an Eidolon, no doubt.
Ferris remembered ’that man’s’ words.
He said that the strongest blessing is simply the strongest blessing, but that’s just a vague and lazy way to put it.
The blessings that are the most consistently strong are the ones you can’t describe.
I cannot describe Zaku’s blessing.
He has potential.
Ferris had an idea.
And I’d prefer it if Zaku can protect his own family. That way, I won’t have to worry about them.
I wonder who I should meet right now. Zaku first, or... So...-leil, was it?
. . .
"Now that I got that off my chest, may I meet with Judas’ sister?"
Tailor took a while to get a hold of himself after the second dreadful news Ferris gave him, but he recovered. "She’s tending our solar panels right now. Follow me.
Oh, and I think we should drop by on my brother along the way."
...Well, I’m not complaining.
