SSS-Knight in a Hero World-Chapter 113: Small Order
The warmness of the essence blanket gradually faded away, becoming rougher to the skin as it did so.
Ferris wondered what he would do next, but he decided on giving Soleil a chance to finish what she started.
"hnggnhhhh!"
Her sheer effort of holding Ferris up made her face sink onto itself due to the tension, and like turning an entire ship, her arms tensed what little muscle they had.
For Ferris, the world slowly turned in his perspective, and once he was upright, he carefully planted his feet on the soft grass.
"Thank you," he rightfully paid with a slight bow.
Well, that was close. Ferris worried that her exertion would push her too much, as the last time he saw her, she seemed incredibly frail.
But that was a completely different scenario.
At least right now, he’s able to greet her properly, and she has no choice but to accept instead of fleeing.
"It’s an incredible blessing, just like your brother’s," he commented with a glowing tone before shifting into a direct one. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Judas didn’t tell me directly, but you haven’t told your father about... ’that,’ right?"
That.
Their origins.
As far as Ferris was concerned, for Tailor, the siblings simply appeared out of nowhere.
He waited for a response, even though he kept his question extremely vague. But that was because Ferris wanted to see her natural instinct.
Fortunately, just by looking at her quivering eyes, he knew that Soleil understood what he meant with his previous statement.
She’s terrified... is it because I know her history? Or...
Upon closer inspection, Soleil wasn’t even looking at him in the eyes, but rather at his heart.
That moment when Ferris saw Soleil a minute ago, there was a sudden flash of coldness in his essence core.
Judas tried hiding himself when I saw her a while ago, he’s doing the same thing again...
Unfortunately for Judas, there was no way someone could mask a bright sun, but even still, the fact that Soleil could notice his presence was impressive.
I guess being siblings comes with certain abilities.
Disregarding his patience to receive an answer, he continued without warning.
"Since you two didn’t tell any of your past to Tailor, I lied to him about the death of your brother," Ferris explained. "Lying is bad, you know. Take responsibility and make amends with him will you?"
"?.... ???...?" Although Soleil couldn’t speak for the moment, her ever-changing expression from shock, confusion, to cluelessness displayed what Ferris needed to know.
Was I too sudden? Ferris wondered.
Thankfully, patience was Ferris’ virtue, and he waited for Soleil to digest the information.
Then, with his patience paying off, Soleil finally collected enough of herself to form a simple question.
"...C-can I see Judas?"
Ferris stared for a moment, then breathed in as he prepared for a manifestation.
Since this wasn’t his own manifestation, he needed to resonate with Judas to bring it out, but.
. . .
There was an awkward pause, with Ferris’ hands in an even more awkward position.
Come on... you’re embarrassing me!
In the face of a stubborn attitude, Ferris made his inner conscious loud and clear.
Manifest, or face shame in being dragged out into a forced manifestation.
In an instant, his essence was lit up in flames.
Ferris imagined himself sighing a breath of relief. He still had the role of a temporary arbitrator, and he didn’t want to destroy the image.
Fwooosh!
A bright sword manifested in Ferris’s hands.
It wasn’t a complete manifestation. Its warm aura was missing, so to anyone else, it looked like an ordinary blade.
But to Soleil, who could see Judas within Ferris’s core, the sword revealed its true nature.
She instinctively reached out, and Ferris carefully placed the sword in her hands.
Almost immediately, he noticed the shift in her expression.
There was no longer that gloomy feeling that surrounded her only a dozen or so minutes ago.
For Soleil, who hasn’t seen her brother for a week, and to reunite with him who was now in the form of a sword.
Forget it... If she’s happy, then that’s good enough, Ferris concluded.
After a while of admiring her brother, she suddenly returned to her previous expression, albeit less gloomy. "...I can’t talk to him."
"At least he knows you’re there," Ferris answered, reaching out his hand to take the sword back.
"I’m still not sure what you two have going on, but Judas can’t survive long if I’m not holding onto him.
That’s what he told me, at least."
Gesturing his open palm, Soleil reluctantly returned her sibling into the hands of the stranger.
But the idea of being strangers would be better off being broken down and forgotten. And surprisingly, Soleil was the first to take that step.
"Were you two close?"
Ferris returned the manifestation back to his essence. "...Not really, I wasn’t able to spend more time with him, but he has my respect—"
Ferris paused for a moment, noticing his fairly dry answer.
Using his 3 decades of knighthood and experiencing his sweet time with close friends of his order, he managed to save himself from being seen as a stern person.
"Actually, we were close enough that he told me why you wanted to become a hero."
Soleil raised her eyebrows as her mind went through the following.
Went out. > Got kidnapped. > Saved by hero. > Helped the hero. > Felt inspired to become a hero herself.
At the same time, a thought crossed over Ferris. Ah, I forgot.
"Thanks for warning me about that ambush," he said with genuine gratitude.
Back then, he was at a state where he wasn’t fast enough to dodge a bullet, so it’s no understatement that Soleil saved him.
"T-thanks..."
Although it was quiet, he could clearly see that Soleil was rather proud of her achievement.
After that, there was a rather long and drawn-out silence.
Ferris thought of asking about the solar panels she was cleaning to fill up the emptiness, but that was a definite no.
How should I approach this? Ferris was unsure of what he should do next.
He wanted to know more about the nature of Judas through his sister, and potentially know more about this world through both him and her.
But that meant that he would potentially expose Soleil to danger.
I already asked Tailor to put Zaku into training. I’ll be overstepping if I ask his daughter to risk herself to danger if I take her for a while.
Amongst his chaotic thoughts, a burning desire appeared within his heart that screamed at him to act.
That act reminded him of what he did for Judas, and knowing that, there was no way he could step back out of his own words. "Soleil."
She jolted slightly when she suddenly heard her name, and she had the sudden burning sensation that urged her to listen.
There were a million ways Ferris could say this to her, but he chose the most direct one.
"Do you want to be a hero?—
"YEAH!"
