One by one, the beasts fell.

It wasn't like before. These ones were stronger, faster, and more prepared. But even then, they weren't ready for the way the special unit worked.

The formation teams rotated in perfect sync. As soon as one section of the barrier started to flicker, the backup squad was already there, pouring energy into the core stones buried under the ground.

Light would flare for a second, and the shield would recover—just enough to catch another charging beast off guard.

Earth and wind cultivators continued manipulating the battlefield. Cracks opened under charging squads.

Sudden gusts knocked flying types out of the sky. Dust and fog swirled across the ground, making it hard for the enemy to see more than a few meters ahead.

And every few seconds, a beast would drop. Not from a big flashy blow—but from a clean strike they never saw coming. That was the Shadow members.

One of them even climbed onto a tree branch above the chaos, locked eyes on a squad leader, and threw a talisman right at his chest.

Boom.

The leader dropped instantly, not even knowing what hit him.

"Pull back!" someone in the beast army shouted. "They're everywhere!"

But there was no clear line to retreat.

Wherever they turned, another trap was waiting.

One beast commander tried to blast through a section of the forest using brute force, but all he hit was a false wall—an illusion formation wrapped around a solid spirit rock.

He hit it head-on and knocked himself out cold.

In the middle of all the chaos, the beast commander—the one who arrived through the teleport gate—stood his ground.

His name was Raguth.

Unlike Garuum, Raguth was a bit more refined. More tactical. But right now, he was pissed.

Not at his soldiers, who had lost their minds after watching their kind being killed in such a large number.

He watched his soldiers fall one after another. Some tripped. Some screamed in confusion. Some simply vanished, taken down by blades he couldn't even see.

"This is nonsense!" he roared. "Where is their leader?! Who's commanding this madness?!"

As if on cue, someone walked toward him through the haze.

Captain Xu Huan, head of this special unit, stepped out from behind a tree.

She was calm.

She was quiet.

But her presence hit like a boulder.

Clad in simple spirit battle robes, with a silver sash around her waist and talismans flowing lightly behind her as she moved, she looked like a wandering cultivator. Nothing flashy.

But her aura and her eyes told a different story.

They were sharp. Cold. Focused.

And deadly.

And her aura was radiating in a way that made anyone feel like they were living in the coldest place alive.

Raguth's pupils shrank as he recognized the look.

She wasn't surprised to see him.

She was waiting.

"You're the one leading this?" Raguth asked, his voice lower now.

Xu Huan nodded once.

"I'll give you one chance," Raguth growled. "Back off. Let us leave. Or I'll tear this forest down around you."

Hearing this, some of the vice captains who were near Xu Huan looked at Raguth as if looking at an idiot, and it makes sense as to who would in their right mind say this to someone who is beating his army in a landslide victory.

And Xu Huan didn't even blink as she replied. "You already lost that chance when you stepped through the gate."

That was all it took.

Raguth let out a roar and charged.

The two clashed in the middle of the battlefield.

The air cracked around them.

His blade, carved from beast bone, slammed into her spirit-forged sword. Sparks flew.

Xu Huan moved like water—fluid and calm. Her steps were light, her movements tight. Every block had a follow-up. Every strike had intent.

Raguth was a brawler. He came in hard. Wide swings. Big hits. The ground trembled under every step.

The battlefield paused for a moment.

Nearby beasts and humans turned their heads as the two commanders fought.

It was fast.

Too fast for normal eyes.

Boom. Step. Parry. Strike. Duck. Palm. Leap.

Xu Huan slid under a wide arc from Raguth and slammed her elbow into his ribs. He grunted, staggered back, then returned with a sweep that kicked up a storm of dust.

Neither was winning.

Not yet.

But both of them were deadly serious.

Raguth snarled, "You think a little human like you can stop me?!"

Xu Huan didn't answer. She just moved in again, this time planting a talisman on his arm mid-strike.

It burned him.

He roared again.

Further behind them, the Shadow members resumed their assault.

They didn't try to interfere in the duel.

Their job was to make sure no one got in the way.

More beasts tried to push toward the commanders—but illusions, traps, and spiritual spikes kept them back.

They couldn't help their leader.

They could only watch.

And so could Garuum.

Still tied. Still bloody. Still breathing.

But now, the fire in his eyes was gone.

"They sent her…" he muttered. "That's Captain Xu Huan…"

Beside him, one of the remaining captains—barely awake—coughed blood and said, "We never had a chance, did we?"

"No," Garuum whispered. "We never did."

Back on the ridge, a Shadow leader watched the duel with quiet focus.

"She's keeping him locked down."

"They're even?"

"For now. But she's watching his footwork. His patterns. She'll find the opening soon."

"Should we help?"

"No," the leader replied. "She said no interference."

The battle raged on.

Fires started to light up in the trees—caused by loose spirit energy or stray attacks.

The beast army's numbers were thinning fast. Their bodies littered the forest floor.

And still, Xu Huan fought like she hadn't taken a single breath wrong.

Raguth was sweating now.

He was strong—but he wasn't used to someone reading his moves like a book.

This wasn't a normal fight.

This was a warning.

This was the Xu family sending a message.

And it was loud and clear.

Humans are not easy to deal with. They know what you are doing before you even think about it.
