SSS-RANK SUMMONING WEAPON SYSTEM-Chapter 31: Mayfair [2]
"I said stop barking. You’re disturbing my ears."
Xavier’s voice rang out, plunging the inn into utter silence. The place was so silent you could hear a pin drop on the floor. Most of the guests in the inn couldn’t believe their ears. He had just insulted a Knight like it was no big deal.
Chris gazed down at the young man who had just casually insulted him and was now sipping water from a cup as if he had done nothing. Chris then bent down, his face levelled with Xavier’s, his glare evident.
"Say it again. " He uttered, threatening.
"I already said it," Xavier replied, casually. "I don’t need to say it twice."
One of Chris’s lackeys barked at him. "You dare to insult a Knight of the baron and think you’ll go unpunished. Who the hell do you think you are?"
Xavier noticed Aria about to stand up, probably to turn the group into ashes, and motioned with a hand for her not get up. He turned back to Chris. "If you’re actually a Knight, you wouldn’t be here harassing girls, causing scenes, and disturbing the peace. So yes, I said you should stop barking."
Chris remained silent for a moment before he chuckled. "I should have known you were stupid. That’s why you opened that trap of a mouth."
Suddenly, stone began to form on his arms, extending from the shoulder all the way to the fingers. "I’ve decided I shall teach you a lesson as a Knight of the baron."
Ostig, who was watching with a fearful gaze, turned to Xavier, expecting the same, but he was shocked to his core. The young man before him was actually not looking at Chris at all. He was still drinking from the water.
Chris glared at Xavier for a moment, before he snapped in anger.
"You fucking bastard!" He screamed.
He swung his stone fist toward Xavier.
But Xavier didn’t flinch.
Casually, almost lazily, he reached out and caught Chris’s arm mid-swing. The impact never landed. The dining room gasped as Xavier’s grip tightened, his eyes calm, his expression unreadable. Chrus’s face contorted in shock as he tried to pull free, but Xavier’s strength was absolute.
Then—snap.
The sound echoed through the inn. Chris screamed, collapsing to his knees, clutching his broken arm. His lackeys staggered back, their bravado faltering, their eyes wide with fear. Xavier rose slowly from his chair, his shadow stretching across the floor, his presence filling the room.
"You should have listened," he said coldly.
With a swift motion, Xavier struck Chrus across the temple. The knight crumpled to the floor, unconscious, his stone gauntlets clattering uselessly. The other three knights roared in anger, drawing their blades, charging at Xavier in desperation.
He moved like a storm.
The first knight lunged, sword raised. Xavier sidestepped, grabbing his wrist, twisting until the blade clattered to the floor, then drove his elbow into the knight’s ribs. The man gasped, collapsing in pain.
The second swung wildly, but Xavier caught the strike with his dagger, parried, and slammed his fist into the knight’s jaw. Teeth cracked, blood sprayed, and the knight fell backward, unconscious before he hit the floor.
The third hesitated, fear flickering in his eyes. He tried to retreat, but Xavier was faster. He closed the distance in a heartbeat, striking with precision. A kick to the knee sent the knight sprawling, and a final blow to the head knocked him out cold.
Silence fell.
The dining room was littered with broken chairs, spilled drinks, and unconscious knights. Chris lay groaning, clutching his shattered arm, his arrogance stripped away. The inn’s patrons stared in awe, their fear replaced with hushed whispers. Bella peeked from the kitchen doorway, her eyes wide with relief. Aria remained seated, calm and composed, her gaze steady on Xavier.
Xavier stood tall, his chest heaving, his gauntlets gleaming faintly in the lantern light. He looked down at the defeated knights, his voice low, sharp, and final.
"I told you to stop barking, didn’t I?"
He walked forward to where Chris lay and then stepped on his broken arm, the latter screaming in unbearable pain.
Xavier bent down, the gauntlets secured on his hand as he grasped Chris’s neck and picked him up, choking on the air. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Now," he spoke, icily. "I want you to drag your lackeys and get the fuck out of here. Do you understand?"
Chris nodded in fear, as Xavier dropped him on the ground in an ungainly heapand watched as he scurried out of the coir with his groaning lackeys behind him.
Bella walked in and made her way over to Xavier. "Thank you again. You have no idea how much it meant to me."
"No worries," Xavier replied. "I’m done eating. I think it’s time I sleep."
--------
Xavier sat on the bed that the inn had provided him for the night. He was super grateful that Ostig had still paid for him, despite the chaos he had caused in the diner downstairs.
Aria was in the room next door, maybe sleeping or still awake. He wasn’t sure. At least, she was still with him. But Xavier also knew that Theron might come looking for her or even his bosses. But that was another Chapter for another day.
"System," he called out.
[Yes, host.]
"Is there something you want me to do in Mayfair before we leave?"
[You will need to register as a mercenary to travel to other towns and complete missions given by the system.]
"Guess I’ll have to do it tomorrow," Xavier concluded, as he removed the robe he wore and folded it neatly on the bed. "What about the Mastery on the Shadowfang Daggers?"
[Shadowfang Daggers Mastery:43%]
Xavier was at least relieved that the Bignath and her minions had given him weapon experience and Mastery. Since he had come here, he hadn’t used his blades once.
He was just about to give in to the tranquility of sleep that had eluded him in Carragis when he heard sudden knocking on his door.
He grunted before reluctantly getting up to open the door and was surprised to see Aria by the door.
"Aria," he asked. "You need anything?"
Aria fidgeted for a moment before speaking. "Master, camping I lay beside you for the night. I don’t think I can sleep in the room."
Xavier was shocked but he quickly composed himself. "Sure, come in."
Aria smiled, relieved as she walked in. She slipped into the left-hand side of his bed and curled in. Xavier stood for a moment, clearly not used to this before he entered the bed too, making sure his body did not touch hers.
But it was futile as Aria had wrapped her arms around him as she fell to sleep.
Xavier gulped before deciding to control himself and sleep. After long, treacherous minutes, he managed to succumb to sleep, amped for tomorrow.
