Chapter 28 - Sticky Situation for Ryker...

The moment the bell rang, Dren rushed in like a bear. His technique depended solely on that form...

His claw strikes were wild but fast—slicing the air with feral precision. Kaelen danced around them, nunchaku flicking and snapping.

Clink-!

Whack-!!

Whack-!!!

One strike to the shoulder, another to the ribs.

"Too slow," Kaelen whispered in Dren's ear before striking him behind the knee. Dren dropped with a grunt, only to receive a clean strike to the back of the neck.

While Dren's attacks were good, he was too slow. He only had great strength in each claw swipe, but that was all—he couldn't touch Kaelen, not even once.

He was unfortunate to be matched against Kaelen. The boost to Kaelen's speed after awakening was definitely not small. Not only that, Kaelen's mastery of the nunchaku was clearly at a high level, as he would sometimes even disregard the claws entirely, striking Dren directly on the fist, without even getting a cut. Dren was at a huge disadvantage in this matchup.

"Victory: Kaelen Stryn!"

---

Ethan, watching from the audience, sighed inwardly. 'This guy reminds me of Ban, the Fox Sin of Greed from Seven Deadly Sins.'

Obviously, Ethan had watched that anime back when he was on Earth!

"Match Three! Number 2 versus Number 8!"

Ryker, thick arms crossed, rolled his neck as he stepped into the ring. His opponent—a lean, red-haired girl named Nysera Valen —spun her spear with surprising grace.

As for Ryker, he had a gauntlet on his arm and fist, without those it was obvious, even with his grappling skills which he used to Overpower an unawakened Mountain Gorilla, even with the boost after awakening, he's going to get utterly decimated by her, fortunately for him and unfortunately fir her, he was well prepared despite how sudden the tournament was.

"Iron Grip Grappling Technique versus Thunder Quake Hammer Form!"

Subtly eyeing her body, Ryker cracked his knuckles. "I'm gonna break that toy."

Nysera grinned. "Try."

She charged, striking with her spear, making the wise decision to keep him at bay with her spear's mid-range attacks. But despite his size and muscularity, Ryker was skillful and nimble. He dodged, changing the spear's trajectory as he closed in with surprising speed. He caught her arm mid-swing, twisting—

But she used the momentum to throw him.

The crowd roared.

Ryker rolled and launched himself at her, grabbing her waist and flipping her hard onto the ground.

The battle was extremely short, but the whole audience was stunned at Ryker's shamelessness.

Within a few moves, Nysera felt so utterly defiled, most of her fellow classmates watching from the side had a faint rosiness on their faces.

Some—especially the males—wanted to laugh hard and secretly give Ryker a thumbs-up for his 'movements', but with Gareth's presence, they didn't dare act too unrestrained.

Still, they all felt Ryker was too bold. He had 'felt' and 'touched' so many things from Nysera's well-proportioned body that some of them even began to wish they were him.

But still, they couldn't help but ask themselves if they had the courage to pull such bold moves under public watch—and most especially, under the gaze of Lord Gareth Drakethorne himself. The answer was obvious—they couldn't. Ryker was just too bold...

As for Ryker, his feelings at the moment couldn't be perfectly described. He felt as if the ground beneath him should just open up and swallow him whole from all the countless judging gazes he was facing. While the male spectators had a look of awe and even a hint of admiration, some of the females had a clear trace of disgust in their eyes.

None of them understood Ryker's difficulties. He couldn't help but curse his luck—why did his opponent have to be a girl?! What would Lord Gareth think of him after witnessing such a shameless act? Even if he ended up winning the tournament, would he be able to join any force? Would those Guild representatives even dare approach him?

He had never felt such an intense amount of shame in his life... Out of embarrassment, he even ended up bowing to Nysera as he helped her up from the ground after defeating her—to show the world that he still had even the tiniest shred of morality in him...

But his plan worked. Nysera and the disgusted audience felt slightly appeased after this little act of his.

Contrary to his fears, Gareth Drakethorne and the representatives of the Guilds felt nothing from his actions. None of them judged him...

Of course, they weren't horny teenagers! Their minds were clear, and they understood that Ryker's actions were purely unintentional—caused by his grappling technique.

Ethan thought the same way too. He understood why his classmates were reacting the way they did—if he was around their age, he'd be reacting the same way too. Those simple touches were nothing compared to his previous life experience, where he had flirted with and even done the thing with multiple women. He was a certified playboy, even when he met Claire.

But since he got close to her after she got sick, that feeling grew into something else. If not for his feelings as a doctor—to save her—which overshadowed the playboy part of him, who's to say Ethan would have even fallen in love in his past life?

Even so, till now, he was still questioning himself... if that feeling really was love. That was why, when Claire said she loved him at her dying moment, he didn't reply with the words "I love you too." Deep within him, he was questioning whether this complicated feeling—the desire to save someone—was really the kind of love she wanted.

If she wasn't on her deathbed, with his playboy nature, he'd obviously tell her he loved her too—who cares! But at that moment of life and death, he didn't feel like lying to her. That's why he didn't give her the reply she wanted...

Sighing, Ethan pushed such distracting thoughts from his mind and focused on the situation before him...

Meanwhile, the instructor supervising and announcing the results sensed the tense atmosphere and coughed slightly to ease it a little before declaring the obvious outcome. "Match over! Victory: Ryker!"
