Chapter 182: When Greed takes over.

" Maybe we should rethink this, I’m not sure elder brother is the one behind this." Emilia tried to stop Melinda but she failed.

The two of them had returned home and set down the groceries but, Emilia felt as if she was having a headache when Melinda wanted to meet Su Ping and question him about the incidents regarding the missing adventurer’s.

" Whether he’s behind it or not, it doesn’t matter, I still want to talk to him." Melinda said with furrowed brows, her hands on her hips.

" B-But..." Emilia wanted to persuade out of it but she sighed in the end when she realized that Melinda’s determinations failed to diminish no matter what she said.

" Thank you..." Melinda said when Emilia finally stepped aside and allowed her access to the door to the study. The house didn’t always possess a study, but after they moved in, Su Ping had cleared one of the rooms and created one himself. The study soon became his most frequented room I’m the house, at times, he would lock himself in here for hour’s without exiting.

" Darling, are you in here." The door creaked open as Melinda stepped inside.

’ I’m so going to get in trouble for this, i just know it.’ Emilia was plagued with anxiety, she watched as Melinda went in but after awhile, she didn’t hear anything.

" He’s not in here." Melinda said when she stepped outside the study.

" N-Not in there, what do you mean, If he’s not here then where could he have gone?" Emilia blinked, she was equally as confused as her.

Just then, they saw Sal approach them from the end of the hallway.

" Mommy, your back?" Sal rubbed his groggy eye’s, still sleepy from the nab he just had.

" Yes sweetheart, Sorry dear, did mommy wake you up." Melinda crouched down before lifting him into her arms.

" No... It’s not Mommy’s fault, I just got tired of sleeeeping." Sal yawned.

" Sal dear, do you have any idea where your father went?" Melinda asked. She wasn’t angered by the fact that her husband had left the children alone because the 5 Death Knights were still in the house with them, and she could remember Su Ping instructing them to always look after the kids the moment they moved in here, along with a few other commands as well.

" Daddy?" Sal blinked, his eyes unconsciously glancing at the ceiling.

" Oh, Daddy wanted me to tell you that he was going outside." He exclaimed after remembering what he was tasked with.

" Outside, outside to where?"

" I don’t know mommy. But Daddy also took the carriage to."

" Carriage?" Melinda stuttered in disbelief, currently they only had one carriage yet they hadn’t used it for awhile now and she knew the reason for that.

’ Why would he take it out now, did something? Or was it proving difficult to control?’ Melinda’s face was suddenly clouded with hints of worry.

" Is something the matter? Why do you suddenly look worried. Does this carriage have some sort of special meaning?" Emilia who noticed her peculiarity, questioned.

" You could put it that way." Melinda’s lips broke into an awkward smile. " Emilia, could you please help me by rushing to your Elder brothers side, I’m afraid he might’ve done something brash by taking on more than he can handle."

" Mommy, is daddy in trouble?" Sal seemed to sense his mother’s worry and also became worried.

" Of course not sweetheart, your father is completely fine. I just want your aunty to tell him to be back for lunch because I’ll be making your favourite tonight."

" Really mommy?" Sal perked up, his eyes glowing like stars.

" Shsssh, not so loud, you’ll wake your little sister." Melinda said, pressing a finger to her lips, yet at the same time, she secretly signaled for Emilia to go with her eyes.

" Mommy, could you also add my favorite toppings." Sal tugged at her shirt making her chuckle.

" Of course my dear, mommy will be sure to make it just as you like it." She smiled weakly, feeling as if she had just taken on an audacious task.

Emilia nodded before vanishing from the hallway with her vampiric speed, quickly leaving the house before morphing into a silver bat that flew within the sky above the city. Using her master-summon bond, she could sense Su Ping’s location and began heading towards it.

*****

" Boss, Are you sure this is a good idea." Several men in black covers stood positioned on tree branches in the forest outside rose city, their figures crouched as if lying in wait.

" What do you mean. Not only did the fool finally decide to step outside his house but he even went as far as leaving the safety of the city, can’t you see that this is the opportunity the boss has been waiting for." Said another black cover, they were all trained assassin’s with the weakest amongst them being a Lvl 2 rare tier unit.

Standing on one of the forests trees was Lucas, only this time he was in his black assassin attire as well. Below the tall large trees was a path that stretched out like a bare road. Lucas had discovered Su Ping’s movements and went up ahead with his men to lay a trap here.

" Quiet. Both of you." Lucas silenced his minions with a sharp glare, he couldn’t be bordered to pay their words any head, right now, the only thing on his mind was the reward he would get from machete after killing the target.

The supreme head had been breathing down his neck lately, Impatient towards when he would finally be taking action against Marcus’s killer. Now that the opportunity had finally presented itself, he could finally deal with this nuisance once and for all.

The group of assassin’s turned silent and merged with the shadows amongst the dense canopies of the trees, lying in wait for their target.

After a long wait, they finally heard the rolling sound of a carriages wheels coming from down below.

’ Hahahaha, it’s really him!’ Lucas celebrated inwardly when he sensed the signature Lvl 2 aura he was told about from the black covered man driving the horse cart.

He glanced at his subordinates hidden amongst the trees, he made a signature rustling sound with some leaves that wasn’t too peculiar but was enough to instruct them on what to do next.

Just when the horse cart was below them, a few of them shot out swift arrows that pierced through the air at lightning speed.

They saw Su Ping stiffen instinctively, he let go of the horses reigns and leaped into the air to avoid the attack but he was a tad too slow.

A groan escaped his lips when 3 arrows pierced his flesh. He landed several meters away. Yet his feet suddenly began to grow uneasy.

Neigh!!!

The horse was startled from the attack, crying out in panic as it’s fronts hooves rose into the air. It stomped down forcefully before crying out again and speeding off with the cart.

" B-Bastards! Their poisoned!" Su Ping who wanted to chase after the cart, coughed up some blood when he realized why he suddenly felt weak.

At the same time, his eyes observed his surroundings at lightning speed, his pupils blurring as he became highly alert.

Several of the assassin’s leaped down the trees, they’re hands reached into their attire’s to pull out gleaming daggers which they brandished in broad daylight.

"..?!!!" The assassin’s who were excited suddenly paled in mid air when dark spheres began to entrap them one by one, shrinking in less than a split second after ensnaring one of them.

" He’s casting spells! Stop him!" Realizing what was happening. An assassin pulled out his bow and fired a poisoned arrow at Su Ping.

Su Ping snarled and caught the arrow with his barehand yet the tip still sliced open the flesh of his palm. The poison in the arrow also caused his heart to thump as more blood spouted from his mouth.

In a fit of rage, several tentacles shot out from dark corners within the area.

" Evade!" Shouted one of the assassin’s who suddenly burst into a flurry of black butterflies, narrowly avoiding a stabbing tentacle.

Using their skills and spells, a few of them were able to avoid the deadly tentacles, although some where unlucky and where either caught and squished to a bloody pulp or stabbed right through, dying right after.

The remaining assassin’s who survived, exchanged tactical glances.

Su Ping who began to sway from side to side due to the poison, displayed an enraged expression. He roared before summoning more tentacles to attack them, but this time, the assassin’s kept their distance while evading.

He tried to use the dark sphere on them while they were mid air but, they fired poisoned arrows at him.

Su Ping growled and willed several tentacles to converge Infront of him, blocking the attack.

" ARGGHHH!!" Su Ping cried out in pain wh

en two blades stabbed into his ankles. He glared at the ground to see two hands swiftly retreating into the soil as if in water.
