SSS Ranked Dragon King: My Innate Ability is Unbelievable.-Chapter 205: I should be asking you the same thing.
Chapter 205: I should be asking you the same thing.
Victoria’s own mind was racing, her initial assumptions crumbling. ’What’s all this? Why are there two foreign women living with Master? Could my sources have been wrong?’ Her lips pressed into a thin, dissatisfied line. This scenario of two unknown women, one fierce-looking and practical, the other radiant and powerful-seeming in a completely different way, sharing a home with him, did not sit well with her at all. It disrupted a private, cherished image she held, and a hot, possessive jealousy, one she would never admit to aloud, began to simmer in her chest.
"She..." Lilia started, gesturing vaguely at Victoria, then faltered. She honestly didn’t know what to say. All she knew was that this intense stranger had asked about Mr. Su in a tone that suggested it was very much her business. "She was asking about Mr. Su."
Seeing the confusion between them, and driven by a need to clarify this unsettling situation for her own peace of mind, Victoria took a risk. She phrased her next question carefully, watching both their faces like a hawk. "Are you two under Master as well..." She let the title hang in the air, heavy with implication.
"M-Master?" Lilia’s eyes widened. The word, spoken with such casual reverence by this stranger, was a shock. "Wait... are you talking about Mr. Su?" The surprise in her voice was unmistakable. She’d always thought of him as a kind, if incredibly powerful and slightly mysterious, customer. The word "master" carried a different weight, a different kind of bond, and hearing it applied to him reframed everything in a new, slightly daunting light.
Emilia, on the other hand, simply blinked. Then, a look of dawning realization smoothed over her features. Of course. It made perfect sense. Her summoner, Su, was a man of deep secrets and deeper power. It was only logical that he would have other... assets, or in this case, other people bound to him in ways she didn’t fully understand. She hadn’t expected to meet one on their doorstep looking like a storm cloud given human form, but it wasn’t entirely unbelievable. She felt a strange sense of kinship with this cloaked woman, despite her prickly exterior.
For one, she was 90% sure they shared a common ground in that the both of them were nobility.
’ I don’t think this is something we should dig in right out here.’
Lilia, ever the pragmatist, wiped a thin sheen of sweat from her forehead with the back of her glove. The sun was getting hotter, and the precious milk wouldn’t stay fresh forever. This conversation, with its undercurrents of strange loyalties and unanswered questions, needed a better setting. "Why don’t we go inside and talk things out," she suggested, her voice returning to its usual, grounding calm. "It’s not too good to leave the milk out in the sun."
"Alright," Emilia agreed instantly. She was motivated by twin desires: to save the milk for her late night escapades, and to satisfy her burning curiosity about this new person who seemed to share a connection to Su Ping.
Victoria gave a short, tight nod. Inside was better. Since, Inside was where he might be. She needed to see for herself, to understand why he was seeking out more women without consulting her first. Even if they were master and servant , she believed he owed her that much.
Well whether it might be because of the mind ward boosting her delusions or because her noble upbringing had given her an innate sense of entitlement, one really couldn’t tell for sure.
The three of them moved to the door. Emilia, balancing the milk jar in one arm, reached out and knocked lightly, leaving 3 Rhythmic taps on its surface.
They stood in a brief, awkward silence on the stoop, the sounds of the city muffled around them. Victoria strained her ears, expecting to hear approaching footsteps from within.
She heard none.
Yet, in the very next moment, the door swung inward silently. Framed in the doorway was the Wolf King. She wasn’t in her more formidable, battle-ready form, but the woman who stood there was no less imposing for it. She was tall, her posture regal even in simple clothes, with eyes that held the ancient, patient chill of deep winters and the chilling air of a silent forest around her. Her gaze swept over Emilia and Lilia with a hint of warmth, then landed on Victoria. The warmth vanished, replaced by an impassive, evaluating coldness.
Emilia and Lilia stepped inside, giving the Wolf King familiar, respectful nods as they passed. Victoria moved to follow, her heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. This was it. She was steps away from—
A firm, unyielding arm barred her path, something she hadn’t quite expected. Luckily, the wolf king hadn’t been forceful, but her hand was still as immovable as an iron gate.
"You may now drop the gift and leave," the Wolf King stated, her low voice brooked no room for argument. Her expression was serene, utterly devoid of malice or welcome. "I’m afraid Mr. Su can’t meet anyone at the moment."
"G-Gift?" Victoria stammered, thrown completely off balance. Her mind, which had been braced for a challenge, for questions, for anything but this, went blank. What gift? She carried no package, no offering.
Was this some kind of code? A test? She looked down at her empty hands, then back up at the tall woman, genuine confusion written across her face.
Emilia, who had been about to head to the kitchen with the milk, saw what was happening. She paused, setting the jar down carefully just inside the doorway. A small, understanding smile touched her lips. She approached the Wolf King, leaning close to her ear. Her whisper was so soft it was barely a breath of sound, but Victoria, with her enhanced senses, caught the tail end of it "...She was asking about him earlier, I think she might really know master."
The Wolf King’s eyebrows, fine and pale, lifted a fraction.
