Chapter 10: Nano Creation

"That means I’ll have to retrieve it? What a pain in the ass."

[There’s only 27 hours left till the core goes critical, after that, the entire of Nova City as well as the neighboring countries and cities will be obliterated.]

’27 hours huh, that means there’s only a total of not less than 18 hours to retrieve the core.’

[Why do you say so master?]

’Well for one, I’m in school for the next seven hours so that’s gone, and next it’s day time. I’m not trying to say that I operate in the dark or anything but after the incident last night, the East Avenue docks is sure to be flooded with cops and crime scene investigators. Not to mention that the core is missing, and Coral industries will be worried as hell since the reactor is still there.’

[That is correct, however basic deduction will only take the matter so far master.]

’What? Did you just call my analysis basic deduction?’ He was a bit hurt, after all he was one of the most smartest kid in Edenford.

[You missed the bigger picture master, now the core is missing, Coral industries would have taken the van away from the docks till they can find the core. What do you think will happen if the city finds out Coral industries imported makeshift atomic weapon?]

’...That’s true, it’ll bring down their credibility and they’d be shut down for life.’

[You’re still missing the bigger picture master, if the van’s not at the docks anymore, how do you plan to stabilize the power source even if you do find it?]

’That’s right... You should have just gone straight to the point and stop nagging me H.A.V.A, but yeah, can’t believe I didn’t think of that, can you find a way to track the core?’

[Yes, I’ll let you know when the satellite has tracked it down.]

’Whoa whoa whoa, there’s a satellite?’

[I uploaded myself to all of Earth’s satellite for easier access to data.]

’All of Earth’s satellites?’

[Yes master, while Nano Regeneration was active and you were recuperating, to further enhance future tasks, I uploaded myself to all 9000 of Earth’s satellites.]

’Holy Shit... 9000? That’s sick!’ The bell rang immediately, signaling the start of classes as H.A.V.A logged off.

"Alright then, I guess I’ll just focus on classes till then." As Eric shut the door and stepped out of the classroom, he barely took two steps before the four boys from earlier and Naomi blocked his way.

He stopped, then looked at them for a moment.

A tired sigh slipped out his mouth. He wasn’t in the mood for this, not today.

He just wanted to live the rest of the day without worrying about the unstable core he had to deal with.

But they clearly had other intentions.

"Classes has started." He said bluntly, and tried to walk away. But the four boys surrounded him immediately with a grin.

"Where do you think your going street rat?" One of the boys said.

Eric stared at the boys one by one with a blank face, then turned his attention to Naomi. Clearly she was the only one who had the higher level of intelligence amongst them.

"Can we do this later?" He asked politely, that was the least he could do without raising tension.

But Naomi scoffed at his request. She saw it as nothing more than an insult. "Since when were we on the same level that you could make requests?"

It gnawed at her, the audacity, the confidence.

"Boys, I think it’s time to teach this filthy lower sector scum about what happens when he steps out of line." With a flick of her wrist, the four boys clenched their fists and approached him slowly.

"Uh-oh." Eric whispered under his breath and took a step backwards. He thought if he reasoned with them like civilized human beings, they could resolve things.

But it ended up being the opposite.

"After this, you’ll never be able to talk back to her!"

The first boy stepped forward and swung a punch at Eric. Eric didn’t even resist, didn’t even raise a hand. He just closed his eyes, and accepted whatever came next.

His fist slammed into his cheek, but Eric didn’t budge. He stood there, completely still, as if the hit hadn’t even reached him. The boy pulled his hand back in shock, staring at Eric like something was wrong.

"Huh?" Eric opened his eyes, and saw the boy drawing back. He didn’t feel a thing, and for a moment he assumed the boy was just taunting him.

"Having second thoughts?" He jerked a brow, a bit confused.

"Hey Carlos, what kind of soft punch was that!?"

"Get serious will ya!"

The other boys shouted.

"Y-Yeah..." Carlos stepped forward again.

’I hit him, I know I definitely hit him with all my strength, so why?’

He threw another punch again, but this time, Eric didn’t close his eyes. His fist connected directly with his forehead, and much like before, he didn’t move an inch.

Carlos eyes widened with disbelief.

"What the hell are you doing Carlos!?"

The other boys shouted in ignorance, but Naomi who saw it all couldn’t believe her eyes.

"Whoa..." Eric raised his hands, and stared at his palms intently. He didn’t realize it before, but after completing the first quest the system gave, he felt... Stronger.

He felt completely different than before, not just in strength.

The punch Carlos threw at him looked far slower compared to the ones they threw at him days before he bonded with D.E.L.T.A.

"Crazy..." Eric chuckled, he knew D.E.L.T.A was a talent that allowed him to create state of the art technology, but he never imagined it could also boost his physical attributes and strength.

The other boys immediately rushed at him and threw a series of kicks and punches, but they had little effects on Eric.

They all backed away with disbelief, and stared at their fist as if they adjusted it to the wrong settings.

Eric laughed, then cracked his knuckles. "My turn."

He moved before any of them could react. He flashed forward and dropped the first boy with one punch to the jaw, then the second, third, and fourth just as easily.

Each strike was quick and clean, far faster than their eyes could follow. In seconds, all four were on the ground, unconscious.

Naomi fell to her butt, shocked. She couldn’t believe what she just saw, she couldn’t believe that was Eric Kaiser, the brat from the lower sector who lacked everything including parental love.

No, he looked more of a seasoned martial artist than a street rat.

"I guess it’s true what they say." Eric approached her slowly, and her eyes wavered like she had just seen a ghost.

He crouched low, then pressed his fingers against her jaws and lifted them gently. "Might makes right and might alone."

In that moment, all the terrible things that she ever did to him flashed across her mind. "P-Please... Forgive me." She begged for mercy, which wasn’t what Eric expected at all.

He scoffed, then stood to his feet and walked past her. "Relax, I won’t hurt you. Hurting a woman is nothing but illogical. But..."

He glanced over his shoulders at her with a cunning smile.

"I’m not done with you yet." While Naomi saw a beast who could easily end her in mere seconds, Eric saw a question mark in the middle of her skirt. For nearly a day now, he still hasn’t figured out the color for the day.

..

Classes were the same as always, boring and unnecessarily long. There was nothing taught that he didn’t already know, but today felt different. Eric couldn’t think straight.

Even his lecturers noticed. He was one of the brightest, if not the brightest, in applied and physical sciences, so his inability to answer a simple question like the atomic formula for helium left them worried.

School ended in the blink of an eye, and Eric left without a word.

He walked alone, strolling through the beautifully designed streets of Nova City’s Upper sector on his way home.

[Master, I have located the van to a warehouse just 250 miles away from the West avenue docks.]

"Hm? Oh that’s good news." The notification from H.A.V.A brought him back to his senses. "How long before the core goes critical?"

[About 15 hours master.]

"Good, let’s go home and restrategize, I can’t afford a slip up this time, or it’s me and Aunt Thelia’s life on the line."

When he got home, he headed straight to his bedroom, tossed his school bag onto the bed, and sat down in front of his desktop.

"Hava, bring up my bio-data."

[Affirmative.]

"Wow... My stats has gone up by 5 points since last time, wait a second, D.E.L.T.A abilities?"

[Yes master, while D.E.L.T.A provides you with inbuilt artillery when you level up, it also provides other abilities.]

"I see, I already have an idea of what Nano Regeneration is from your explanations before, then what is Nano creation? I assume it’s an ability that let’s me create my own tech? But given it’s at level 1 it’s creative prowess is limited?"

[Yes master, while levelling up gets you access to state of the art tech, Nano creation lets you create your own tech, but only according to the available materials.]

"I see, this is quite useful, I can’t just run in blind anymore, I’ll need more than the Dual Pulse Gloves to handle those kind of advanced weaponry. What materials are available now with Nano creation?"

[Obsidian dust, mistweaver gel,, silent Bloom Catalyst, shadowstone fragmen-]

He rolled his eyes.

"Sorry, I meant what can I produce with the materials available with Nano creation.

[An EMP and smoke grenade.]

"I see, that’ll be very useful in distracting those bastards. Alright then, since Aunt Thelia won’t be around till later, Hava, activate skull."

The next instant, the touch panel of his watch split in two and slid back into the casing, a soft mechanical whir followed. From the narrow opening, a stream of dark nanites poured out like liquid smoke, swirling in the air around his head. The nanites twisted and pulled together, shaping into a solid mask that locked into place over his face.

He pulled a black hoodie from his wardrobe and slipped it on, before pulling the hood over his head as the white lenses of his mask flickering to life with a soft whir.

"Let’s go core hunting."
