Standing Next To You-Chapter 383: Trust me, Grandma
Chapter 383: Trust me, Grandma
When they arrived at the house Bei Sangyun had chosen as their temporary hideout, Fei Chuan was already asleep.
Not wanting to wake him, Bei Sangyun asked Third Chief to carry Fei Chuan to the bedroom. Perhaps because of his fever, Fei Chuan was too weak to stay awake. He slightly opened his eyes, and upon seeing Bei Sangyun, he closed them again, letting down his guard and falling back to sleep.
Grandma Pei and the others had been anxiously waiting for their arrival. Seeing them safe and sound, they finally sighed in relief.
Bei Sangyun tucked Fei Chuan into the blanket, kissed his feverish forehead, and gazed at him gently for a long time. There was a soft knock on the door, and Grandma Pei entered with a basin of water.
"How is he?" she asked.
"He’s sleeping now. His fever has relapsed. The doctor will come tomorrow to check on his condition."
Grandma Pei nodded, relief washing over her face. Then she looked up at Bei Sangyun again. "And you? You aren’t hurt, are you?"
Bei Sangyun smiled, feeling a bit guilty. "I am fine, Grandma." She lowered her head shamefully. "I am truly sorry for not discussing this matter with you in advance. Everything happened so fast. Fei Chuan and I had to make a quick decision. This must be so sudden for you—" freёweɓnovel.com
"Sangyun," Grandma Pei interrupted, she put down the basin and approached her.
She held Bei Sangyun’s shoulders. Bei Sangyun paused and finally met her eyes. There was no blame in Grandma Pei’s gaze; instead, there was a soft smile on her face.
"I am not angry, nor do I blame you and the Young Master. Although I worked there for decades, I have no regrets about leaving that place."
Grandma Pei hugged Bei Sangyun warmly. "I am actually thankful that you were there when it happened. I felt helpless and couldn’t do anything whenever Young Master Fei Min came to harm the Young Master. When they dragged him out, I felt so powerless. But you, dear, were so brave and did the thing I wanted to do the most but couldn’t. Thank you, my dear Sangyun. Thank you for helping the Young Master."
Bei Sangyun hugged Grandma Pei back. "I’ll do anything for Fei Chuan. And you’re wrong, Grandma. I’m sure you’re the reason why Fei Chuan was able to endure living in that place until now. Your presence gave him strength."
Grandma Pei let go of her and gently squeezed her cheeks. "You still don’t forget to assure this old woman, how sweet of you. Still, you should be careful. You almost gave me a heart attack when I heard you stayed in the Fei mansion. The Young Master was so determined to go back for you."
Bei Sangyun smiled. "I can’t help it. Those people really made me angry."
Grandma Pei chuckled. "So, what did you do? Did you teach them a lesson?"
"You bet, Grandma."
Grandma Pei laughed softly.
However, despite her laughter, Grandma Pei’s heart was heavy with worry about the future, especially the future these two young ones would face after this eventful night.
They were barely twenty, yet they already had to face problems far beyond their years. They had to go up against the Fei family. With such a huge obstacle before them, would they be able to move forward?
What if they were crushed by the overwhelming pressure and numerous troubles the Fei family would throw their way? Would these two be able to survive?
But what could she do? She was only a powerless old woman who couldn’t shield these two children at all.
She was worried, but she knew she shouldn’t show it. She didn’t want to burden them with her unnecessary worries.
However, Bei Sangyun noticed the slight tremor in her laughter and the fleeting distress that passed through her eyes.
Bei Sangyun suddenly held her hand. "Grandma, I know you are deeply worried about us. But please don’t be scared. Fei Chuan and I are not weak. We might look like children in your eyes, but our methods run deep. We won’t lose to them. Just think about it—if I were just a normal young lady from the Lin family, would I have the courage to do what I did? I have plans, and so does Fei Chuan. Please trust us."
Grandma Pei’s eyes teared up. She affectionately patted Bei Sangyun’s head. "Silly girl. I should be the one comforting you, not the other way around. You don’t have to worry about this old woman. Just do what you have to do." Although she said that, Grandma Pei’s heart was moved.
This little girl had grown up. She could even assure and comfort an old woman like her. She was truly glad that the Young Master reconciled and got together with Bei Sangyun. At least in this fight, the Young Master wouldn’t be alone.
"I believe in the two of you. But please, be safe. Put your safety first, okay?"
Grandma Pei’s warmth reminded Bei Sangyun of her own grandma. Bei Sangyun nodded obediently. "I will."
"I might be useless in some other things, but I am a great cook. I will make a lot of healthy and tasty food so that the two of you will grow healthier and plump."
"I look forward to that, Grandma. I really love your cooking." Bei Sangyun smiled.
The two talked more, gradually shifting their topic away from the Fei family to the positive things they looked forward to in the future.
Bei Sangyun’s assurance must have worked because Grandma Pei’s heart slowly relaxed. Despite the future seemed full of unknown struggles and daunting with an overwhelming enemy ahead, Bei Sangyun’s confidence somehow made her feel that they would be able to overcome it.
She had to believe in the Young Master and Bei Sangyun.
Grandma Pei desperately hoped that these two wouldn’t come to harm. May the heavens be merciful and help them overcome all the obstacles in their way.
