Chapter 1599: The Technique of Digging Holes (I)

The chaos universe hadn’t been quiet for long before the latest developments swept through various major worlds. Everyone had thought that the developments at Skyward would be the latest excitement, but news soon came from Red Moon Region.

A third seventh rank of Red Moon major world, the Exalted Clarity Emperor, had died inside Red Moon territory. That was more terrifying than anything!

How could someone die within the range of their dao universe, and right under the master of their world’s nose?? It was very easy for the world master to descend in person at such a distance.

And yet, the Red Moon master had not done so.

He seemed to be confined, suppressed, or was wholly ignoring everything. He didn’t make a move and permitted his own heavyweight to be killed on his doorstep.

After the latest clash, Red Moon lost three seventh ranks in one day!

There were only five high ranks in all of Red Moon, and now only two left. They had to hunker down and hold tight to their own territory. Red Moon was always the invading party, but it’d taken only fifty years in their war with New Martial to be beaten back from attacking to defending.

The main armies of the two sides were yet to meet in large-scale action.

On New Martial’s side, only the Sun God had brief dealings with Red Moon. The remainder of New Martial’s high ranks were yet to truly engage Red Moon. And yet, their opponent was suddenly on the back foot before anything else was said and done.

Although it had an eighth rank in residence and its main world was mighty beyond compare, there was only one seventh rank left of the high ranks that it could mobilize. That seventh rank couldn’t easily leave the world anymore either, lest he be killed.

The chaos was suddenly thrown into disarray.

The appearance of Skyward’s dao universe sparked solemn consideration from many heavyweights. Premier powerhouses such as the New Martial Human King, Fog Mountain of Skycloud, and Flare Sun of Light were all at Skyward. Fog Mountain had even taken the unusual action of killing Red Velarium, indicating that he might have reached an agreement with New Martial.

Skycloud issued an announcement on this day that Fog Mountain might have been beguiled by the Human King in killing Red Velarium. His actions were not Skycloud’s intent and could not represent the major world.

The chaos at large didn’t know if these words could be trusted. If they were real, that meant that there might be some differences in opinion between Fog Mountain and Skycloud. If they were false, then that meant Skycloud had its eyes set on Red Moon.

Regardless, this was a very important matter.

Light remained silent on the matter and didn’t express their stance. For the moment, the Red Moon and Skyward Regions were wracked by utter mayhem.

Around them, the two major regions that were further away had also sent heavyweights to Skyward. They were the Crimson Sun and the Dragon Regions.

Under normal conditions, eighth rank worlds could be found in the major regions. Ones with a fewer number of eighth rank worlds had only one, such as Red Moon Region. Skyward had two. The regions in the four cardinal directions were the entirety of the chaos to many exalted emperors.

The four regions covered an extremely expansive area. A first rank might spend their entire life in one region and never leave it.

A group of high ranks had set forth from their regions and were converging upon Skyward. Their goal was the dao universe; there were also more than just high ranks in the chaos. There were chaos wanderers, masters of mid and minor worlds, lower ranks of major worlds. They all set out for Red Moon Region.

Red Moon had just lost a seventh rank, leaving two safeguarding its world. No one dared move against Red Moon—at least, not the chaos wanderers.

No one dared touch a major world as well. The masters of major worlds were seventh ranks. When they were in a defensive position, such as the Utmost Dark master, even the Human King had to borrow the Ash Emperor’s strength to kill him.

However, some thought of Orchid Forest.

That was a major world not too strong to begin with; its dao universe hadn’t been born for long. It was overseen by two premier sixth ranks, with many more mid ranks within it...

In this regard, an attack from a regular seventh rank would find it difficult to break Orchid Forest. That gave the world a chance to find its footing, and for the Orchid Forest dao master to once think of attacking New Martial.

Yet, when the Human King exterminated Utmost Dark, he casually executed the Orchid Forest dao master as well. Orchid Forest’s great dao trembled violently with the death of its master of dao. The world master oversaw it now and was attempting to integrate himself with the great dao. As of the moment, he was yet to succeed in the role of master of dao.

That wouldn’t happen so quickly!

A large number of mid rank exalted emperors was of the mind to take Orchid Forest while Red Moon was busy with its own affairs. There were sixth ranks ruling over major worlds in the chaos, but most of them shared authority between a master of the world and master of great dao.

Those two personages normally did not leave the world, at least not, before they entered seventh rank.

Everyone knew that a dao universe was the easiest way to ascend to seventh rank. As for why the Orchid Forest dao master dared venture out of the world to fight New Martial... that was hard to say.

All that could be concluded was that the once quiet chaos was quiet no longer.

A portion of the high ranks even brought their worlds along as they ran for Skyward. Another portion headed straight for Red Moon Region. Some of the mid ranks, such as sixth rank masters of mid worlds, also steered their worlds toward Red Moon!

They wanted to seize a dao universe and help their worlds advance to a major world!

The progression of a world was what all factions in the chaos sought. The disturbance at Skyward was too high level for them, but Orchid Forest... could be fought for so long as Red Moon didn’t involve themselves.

......

The chaos frothed with activity, no longer the pool of dead water that it once was. Some exalted emperors that’d long stayed in seclusion were tempted by the action and headed out of their worlds. Some opted to travel with their worlds. While that decreased their speed, it also added to their strength.

Sixth rank masters of the world traveled with their mid worlds. While they would still find it difficult to fight seventh ranks, they would be nearly invincible within the range of their world.

Seventh rank masters of the world could fight eighth ranks within the range of the world, assuming that the eighth rank was further away from their major world.

......

At the same time, Red Moon Region.

Li Hao and Void watched as an old man tunneled out a hole in a dark patch of the empty void. Could... holes be burrowed in the chaos?

They could not!

The chaos was a massive portion of space. How did one create a hole in a complete and whole area of space?

Li Hao couldn’t do it, and neither could Void. However, the old man in front of him could do it! He really was tearing through a small part of the void. To Li Hao and Void, this wasn’t burrowing a hole, but a demonstration of dao!

It was a real dao method!

The old man chuckled as he punctured the chaos. “The chaos is a type of space that cannot be torn though as it is one whole. Who can rip through the entire chaos? A ninth rank might be able to, but ordinary people cannot.”

That was what he said, but a hole was well and truly forming in front of him.

“So this isn’t a hole, but...”

“The prototype of a world!” an extremely moved Li Hao finished for him.

“That’s right!” the old man roared with laughter. “You cannot create a hole in the chaos, but worlds can be born in it! Each world is formless and intangible, untraceable before it is born. It is concealed by the chaos and the equivalent of a fruit budded in the void!

“That’s why we used to call them world seeds—a world from a seed! A mature world can be seen. Can you guys see undeveloped worlds?”

Void and Li Hao listened carefully. They weren’t inexperienced, naive cultivators. On the contrary, they knew and had seen much of existence!

One was the son of an eighth rank and the other possessed the heritages of many high ranks, as well as grasped the dao of time. If they lacked knowledge, then how many exalted emperors in the chaos possessed any sort of knowledge?

They knew about seeds and fruit, but those concepts were being rendered in different ways this time.

“So how is a world born?” continued the old man. “I didn’t know at first either, not until Silver Moon was born...”

Li Hao raised an eyebrow.

“New Martial finally resolved strong foes after enduring great turmoil and hardship,” said the old man. “The Human King went into seclusion in order to revive those who’d died. He comprehended yin and yang to bring back those in the yin!

“He was in closed door cultivation throughout the process, and did not pay attention to the world. The Ash Emperor is a lazier sort and spent its days napping as well. Some energy drifted off of New Martial then and gave birth to Silver Moon near Yin and Yang!

“I didn’t understand Silver Moon’s birth at first, not until I was sent to oversee it...”

Li Hao observed the man continue to dig a hole; a light entered the young man’s eyes after a while. This wasn’t a hole!

This was a world... Even though it was only the foundation of one and didn’t count as a prototype, it was indeed the process of a world being born.

The Sword Sovereign wasn’t just burrowing a hole in the chaos, he was tilling a field! If sufficient fortune visited this hole in the future, it might eventually become a world.

“A lot of conditions need to be met before a world is born!” the Sword Sovereign continued. “The first is that its dao must be whole and complete! It’s similar to building a house. How can you fashion a foundation if you lack even the basic materials?

“Second is that there must be a development trajectory for it—that simply means that there needs to be an energy source. The birth of a world requires a lot of energy. Where does it come from?

“The chaos, of course. You need to have sufficient facilities to take in energy. Otherwise, how is a world to be born without energy?

“Third is the source of life!” The old man shook his head at this point. “That, I cannot do. I’ve only accomplished the first step for the moment, which is congregating a complete dao. That’s why I can dig a hole to form the foundation of a world. I can’t create a world out of nothing either!”

Even so, just achieving the first step alone was astounding! Li Hao didn’t say a word.

“Senior.” Void was shaken by what he’d heard. “What do you mean by a complete dao?”

What made a dao complete? Who could define that?
