Star Odyssey-Chapter 3548: Completely Insignificant
Chapter 3548: Completely Insignificant
Yue Susu’s rejection caused the room’s already chilly atmosphere to drop to near freezing.
With a solemn expression, she said, "Senior Yi, if I was not completely confident, I wouldn’t be standing here today.
"Merely sabotaging this selection process for the five official trade associations is meaningless, don’t you think?"
Yi Shang continued to stare at Yue Susu. "Do you wish to go down together?"
The representatives of the other companies listened quietly. No one dared to act rashly. They were very curious to see where the Sima Chamber of Commerce had gathered the courage to threaten Yi Shang’s Chamber of Commerce with mutual destruction.
While Yi Shang was no longer Seraph, he was still a peerless expert. The Sima Chamber of Commerce had absolutely no one who was equal to the man.
Shan Xian could merely protect Yue Susu. Even at his peak, he had never been Yi Shang’s equal.
Yue Susu shook her head "If it can be avoided, no one wishes to see that come to pass. I hope, Senior Yi, that you will give my Sima Chamber of Commerce a chance. Your company has already reaped enough profits. There’s no need for you to completely control the entire Spirit Nidus’s economy."
Yi Shang sneered contemptuously. "Child, just who do you think you are? Do you really want to go down with me? Are you even qualified to do that?"
Yue Susu’s expression turned cold. "You don’t believe that, Senior Yi?"
Yi Shang’s eyes suddenly flared. "What qualifies your Sima Chamber of Commerce to go down with me? I have been a Seraph! Only below one and above all others! Do you really believe that some random Sima Chamber of Commerce can threaten me? You are too naive. Since you dare to face me head-on, I will give you a chance. However, should you fail to seize it, you cannot blame me for dealing with you.
"I know that you are not truly after the materials for constructing sequence bases, nor is this just about the Sima Chamber of Commerce. But whatever it is that you seek—it is not with me."
Shan Xian held Yue Susu back while directing a grave look at Yi Shang. "Old friend, there’s no need to go this far for just the Sima Chamber of Commerce."
A golden pen appeared in Yi Shang’s hand, and he pointed it at Shan Xian. "If I allow you to simply leave here today, how will I retain my status in the Spirit Nidus? Do you really believe that it is so easy to become a Seraph?
"Shan Xian, you once also attempted to seize that title, so let me show just how vast the gap is!"
Yue Susu’s face turned pale. Why hasn’t it happened yet? In that case... freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"Senior Yi, there are certain things that others are unaware of that we in the Sima Chamber of Commerce know: the materials to construct sequence bases tend to favor certain sequence techniques. Do you really want me to reveal the specifics of this?"
Yi Shang’s pupils shrank, and killing intent lurked in the depths of his eyes.
Shan Xian was startled, as he had never known about this matter. While he knew that Yue Susu had been plotting against the Daquan Domain’s Chamber of Commerce, the old man had never known exactly what had given Yue Susu the courage to go against a former Seraph like Yi Shang. Only at this moment did the old man understand that it had something to do with the sequence bases.
In this case, what about the Gate of Laws?
Suddenly, someone appeared without warning. The moment the man arrived, the representatives of all of the companies present in the room lost consciousness, aside from Lu Yin in the corner.
Everyone still conscious stared at the newcomer.
Yi Shang’s eyes narrowed. “Zhan Ming?”
Shan Xian frowned. Had the master of the Gate of Laws, Zhan Ming, come?
Yue Susu let out a breath of relief. He had finally appeared. There were certain things that she truly did not wish to reveal, if at all possible.
From his corner, Lu Yin observed the newcomer. Was this really Zhan Ming?
The two had spoken before, but Lu Yin had never seen Zhan Ming in person. It was a surprise to see the man appear during this selection for the official trade associations.
Ye Laogui and the others with Lu Yin were utterly shocked. What was going on? This was merely supposed to be a selection for the official trade associations. Why was a Seraph in attendance?
Just why were so many peerless experts present at this time?
As soon as Zhan Ming appeared, he glanced towards the corner. A hint of a smile appeared on his friendly old face. “Third Boss, we finally meet.”
Lu Yin scrutinized the old man. “Are you Zhan Ming?”
Zhan Ming smiled more broadly. “Indeed, I am.”
Lu Yin chuckled. “You look nothing like Zhan Yan.”
Zhan Ming gave a small laugh. “I’m old now, but in my youth, we looked a great deal alike.”
Unperturbed, Lu Yin said, “Do what you need. The show today’s been quite entertaining.”
Zhan Ming stared at Lu Yin in a more intense manner. “My apologies for letting you see this farce, Third Boss.”
The old man then turned back to Yi Shang, but after exchanging a glance, Zhan Ming’s attention fell to Yue Susu and Shan Xian. “I will help your Sima Chamber of Commerce negotiate with Yi Shang. Go on back now.”
Yue Susu’s eyes were bright as she stared at Zhan Ming. This was exactly the outcome that she had been hoping for.
Zhan Ming then turned to Shan Xian. "Old friend, you should return to the Gate of Laws. Your replacement will protect Yue Ting."
Shan Xian frowned, and Yue Susu objected, "My master cannot leave."
Zhan Ming’s voice dropped low, "Child, do not push things. There are some things that can be dropped, so long as the objective is achieved. You have already accomplished something that no one else your age could have done. If you continue any further, you will not be able to bear the necessary price."
Yue Susu stared at Zhan Ming, but the pressure of this man was entirely different from what Yi Shang gave off.
The pressure from Zhan Ming contained an aura of decay that was so thick that it became hard to breathe.
Shan Xian felt the same sort of pressure.
Of the Seven Seraphs, Yi Shang had never been much of an offensive fighter, but Zhan Ming was different. He was the master of the Gate of Laws, and he oversaw many ancient monsters who were at death’s door.
Beneath Zhan Ming's pressure, Shan Xian had no choice but to step back.
He let out a deep sigh and patted Yue Susu on the shoulder. "Child, this is as far as your master can accompany you. You have truly done your best in what you have pursued."
The young woman clenched her teeth, unwilling to accept this outcome. She stared at her master. "Master, I promise to stay with you until the end."
Shan Xian shook his head and laughed. "There’s no need for that. I am happy enough to have accepted a disciple like you before meeting my end. My life as a powerhouse has been rather unremarkable. While I gained strength close to that of the Seven Seraphs and once shone brilliantly in the universe, to someone like you, such a thing is quite ordinary.
"In you, I can see another sort of life: leveraging small things to achieve something great. Using intelligence and personality to shift the stars themselves. You have already accomplished more than enough." The old man’s voice then dropped to a whisper. "Beware your father. He is not as simple as you believe."
A tremor racked Yue Susu’s body, and she gave Shan Xian a look of confusion.
At that moment, one of the people accompanying Yue Susu stepped forward and handed her a spirit cloudstone. "Miss, the president is asking for you."
Yue Susu was taken aback. "At a time like this?"
Shan Xian frowned, having a bad premonition.
As soon as the call connected, an enraged voice came through. “You damned girl! What do you think you are doing? Where are you? Get back here now!”
Yue Susu replied, “Father, our company’s crisis has already been resolved. I have just finished negotiating with the Daquan Domain Chamber of Commerce. They will no longer compete with us for the materials for sequence bases.”
”Shut up! What gives you the right to negotiate with the Chamber of Commerce? I’m not dead yet!" A furious roar raged from the spirit cloudstone.
Yue Susu frowned. "Father, everything’s already been settled."
"Get back here right now! No, wait! Are you in Buyi City? Apologize to Senior Yi Shang at once! If he refuses to forgive you, you may as well just die there. I, Yue Ting, refuse to acknowledge having a daughter like you!"
Shan Xian closed his eyes. As expected.
Not far away, Yi Shang’s eyes turned frigid. Yue Ting was quite impressive, using his own daughter as a pawn to achieve his own goals, only to cast her aside to serve as a scapegoat the moment she succeeded. The man was indeed vicious.
Zhan Ming remained calm. He had seen too many betrayals of the same sort. Did those old monsters on the verge of death actually want to enter the Gate of Laws? Most of the time, they were given no choice. To truly understand a person, one only needed to see how they faced death.
In the face of death, those old monsters were capable of doing absolutely anything.
From the corner with Lu Yin, Qing Yun and the rest heard everything. Fists clenched tight in frustration. How could a father do such a thing? His own daughter had risked her life to save him and his company, but now, he was suddenly sending her to die!
Lu Yin looked up with interest. The show had just become even more intriguing.
Yue Susu felt a chill run through her entire body, and her face grew ashen. “F- Father, what did you just say?”
"Apologize to Senior Yi Shang right now! If he refuses to forgive you, don’t even bother coming back! Our Sima Chamber of Commerce has always enjoyed a good relationship with the Daquan Domain’s Chamber of Commerce. Was there really any need for you to meddle unnecessarily? I knew that you were scheming something behind my back, and now, I can see it clearly. Do you really believe that you have the authority to call the shots for my Sima Chamber of Commerce?" Yue Ting roared.
Yue Susu struggled to believe what she was hearing. Scheming? Was her own father really describing her actions with such a word?
She had sacrificed so much for the Sima Chamber of Commerce for so many years. She had even given up on someone she had truly loved. Even after risking her life to face Yi Shang and Zhan Ming themselves, was this her reward?
At that moment, Yue Susu remembered the warning that Shan Xian had just given her.
The old man felt bitter. If Yi Shang had been genuine in his offer to have the girl marry Yi Xia, it would have been truly wonderful. Alas, the girl’s own value was far less than the value of what surrounded her.
The Sima Chamber of Commerce relied solely on Yue Ting. He had obtained an innate gift from his Spirit Transformation that supported the entire company. Yue Ting alone was able to procure the materials for building sequence bases. If not for that, how could a mere Sima Chamber of Commerce stave off a mammoth like Yi Shang’s Chamber of Commerce?
As far as Yue Ting was concerned, Yue Susu had already used up her entire value.
While the girl could manage and oversee the Sima Chamber of Commerce, there were others capable of doing the same. As long as Yue Ting himself was alive, no one would dare offend his Sima Chamber of Commerce.
Yue Susu’s courage and attitude had already helped Yue Ting’s company secure what he desired: Yi Shang’s company would not compete with them, which meant that the Sima Chamber of Commerce had already succeeded. At this juncture, any previous conflicts between the two chambers of commerce would naturally be resolved. After all, one wielded immense influence due to a peerless powerhouse like Yi Shang being at their helm, while the other was supported by the Gate of Laws. Yue Ting did not want to suffer either man’s wrath, and so, he had decided to sacrifice Yue Susu.
This would allow the Sima Chamber of Commerce to reap all the benefits while offending neither the Daquan Domain’s Chamber of Commerce nor the Gate of Laws; Yue Ting himself would also suffer no losses. The only loss was his daughter, Yue Susu, but since Yue Ting had no emotional connection and was indifferent to her, losing Yue Susu was no loss at all.
From start to finish, the biggest winner was Yue Ting. He had done nothing, and yet he had gained everything.
Shan Xian could not stop himself from grabbing the spirit cloudstone and angrily shouting, “Yue Ting, you’re despicable! Selling out your own daughter? Are you even human?”
Yue Ting’s voice dropped low. “Senior Shan Xian, this is a matter that concerns my Sima Chamber of Commerce. You have nothing to do with this, so please return to the Gate of Laws. Given how close you are to the end, I won’t see you off.”
Enraged, Shan Xian struggled to find any words. “You...!”
Yue Susu felt completely powerless, as she had suffered a terrible blow.
With nothing more than a weak body and the cultivation of a Spirit Warrior, she had fearlessly confronted both Yi Shang and Zhan Ming, defending and protecting the Sima Chamber of Commerce, negotiating with Lu Yin while staring straight ahead with fearless and determined eyes. However, after being betrayed by the one she was closest to and been the most desperate to protect, her world had utterly collapsed in a single moment.
The agony in her heart was beyond what words could describe. She could not stop herself from spitting out a mouthful of blood as her body trembled. She nearly collapsed entirely.
Shan Xian rushed to grab the young woman. “Child, don’t get too worked up.”
With a voice overflowing with resentfulness, Yue Susu asked as tears streamed down her face, “Master, did I do something wrong?”
Shan Xian did not know what answer to give. Was it wrong to give everything for one’s most loved person? He could not say.
Yi Shang clasped his hands behind his back and calmly stated, "When a rabbit ventures into a wolf's den, a pack of wolves might feel wary or curious, but ultimately, a rabbit is just a rabbit. Its only fate is to be eaten.
"Honestly, I quite admire you, but you will never be able to reach our level.
"If you had gone to Ninering City before, your ambition might have been enough to overwhelm many, but alas, you restrained yourself until now for the sake of the Sima Chamber of Commerce. You have sacrificed far too much.
"You... are completely insignificant."
