Chapter 4: Cassian Vale Arcturus & Seraphina Vale Arcturus

They walked behind Lysia down the hall, quiet but relaxed. The place was big, but not cold; instead, it had a polished, well-lit, and way too clean look that made you feel the joy of living here.

But none of them found it weird, as this had been something they had experienced countless times; their minds were more focused on what would happen later today.

Outside the windows, the garden looked fresh and perfect, like it had been cut and watered five minutes ago.

In the distance, you could just barely see large towers poking up above the trees and walls.

The sky was soft and clear. Morning had settled in, and everything felt like it was waiting.

Mirei stuck close to Aurelian’s right, light on her feet like always. Yelena walked beside him on the left, quiet and calm.

Katsura didn’t say anything but stayed close behind as she matched her pace and just watched her sisters hog him with a small pout.

They reached the big dining room doors, and Lysia opened them without a word.

The dining room wasn’t overly fancy, but it definitely looked expensive. Long table, tall windows letting the light spill in, and a breakfast setup already waiting.

A few covered trays, fruit, and tea, it was a simple, but clean, and there were already two people there, sitting as they’d been up for a while.

And as soon as the four of them entered the room, their gazes fell on the man sitting at the head of the stable.

He was a tall, broad-shouldered, sharp-looking man with silver-black hair and deep blue eyes that seemed to contain everything one would imagine.

And he had a bearing that made him the center without trying to be. His suit was plain but perfectly fit, as if it were made specially for this man.

"Morning, Aurelian," he said.

"Morning, Father," Aurelian replied.

Then the woman beside him also looked at the four, her long brown hair catching the light as she smiled at them with a doting look.

She gave them a once-over and said with an amused tone, "And good morning to my future daughters-in-law."

Hearing this, the three women did not even feel surprised, as they were used to the women saying this often.

Mirei rolled her eyes as she smiled. "Morning, Mother-in-law."

Yelena didn’t say anything, but her ears went a little pink. Katsura looked away, brushing her hair behind her ear as if trying not to be obvious, but both of them still greeted the two adults.

"Good morning, Lady Seraphina," Yelena said softly.

Katsura gave a small nod. "Morning."

Seraphina looked very pleased with herself, but quickly rebuked Yelena. "That is wrong, Yelena. You can call me Mother or mother-in-law, don’t be so formal."

Cassian, still standing off to the side, motioned toward the chairs. "Don’t bother them, dear, sit down, you four, you’ve got a big day ahead."

They moved to the middle of the long table, Aurelian in the center with the girls beside him, as if it was second nature.

The food smelled good. Warm bread, eggs, a few sides, and hot tea already poured.

It felt like the familiar warmth all four had experienced for a long time, and today is no different.

"Finally, we get to commanders, huh?" Mirei said as she picked up a slice of fruit. "First shipgirl awakening is always something that we have been waiting for."

Seraphina nodded with a look of reminiscence as she thought about her first ship girl awakening.

"Although your first ones matter, but that is only for the common people, we don’t have to worry about it, as we have ways to change their quality later on, so just go in with confidence," Cassian said to the four people less nervous about their upcoming awakening.

Hearing this, the three ladies calmed down a little as they enjoyed the breakfast.

But Aurelian didn’t say anything to this, as he had heard of this countless times, and also because he had confidence that he would draw a good one from the start.

This is because he has something he has not spoken to anyone about, something that has been with him since he was born.

And this item will help him get the best possible ship girl, even for the triplets who are eating next to him.

There wasn’t much else to say after that, as Aurelian’s parents let the four of them have a peaceful breakfast, knowing how they felt, since they were the same when it was their turn, in their shoes.

They ate in a relaxed rhythm. The triplets whispered a little between bites. Aurelian listened more than he spoke.

Katsura stayed close, watching him now and then when she thought he wasn’t looking. Yelena finished her tea in slow sips.

Mirei leaned back in her chair and stretched once, already thinking ahead.

Aurelian looked at all of them, then at his parents across the table.

This was his starting line.

He set his cup down, leaned back slightly in his seat, and took a breath.

From here on, things were going to move fast.

This is because, starting today, he, along with students from every part of the Galactic Human Alliance will face its greatest challenge: awakening its ship girls and becoming a commander.
