Stars In His Eyes-Chapter 1696: His Whole World Is Only You 29
Watching Ding Jinshi act as if nothing were amiss, Ding Long felt an overwhelming heartache, wanting to pull her into his arms and softly console her.
Perhaps, Ding Jinshi really hid it too well, so much so that even he was unsure — was her claim of not being upset truly unaffected? Or was she smiling while bleeding inside?
Lan Li’s sudden appearance seemed to have not made much impact on Ding Jinshi; throughout the dinner, she still ate and drank heartily, joked and bantered with Ding Long. When she laughed, her eyes would curl, making others feel particularly comfortable. That kind of smile, where even the brows and eyes were filled with joy, looked genuinely authentic.
Yet, precisely because of this, it seemed overly genuine, so Ding Long became even more worried.
However, even after dinner when running errands and returning home, Ding Long saw no trace of anything amiss with Ding Jinshi, hence even wanting to speak up afforded no opportunity, leaving no chance for persuasion.
After that meal, Ding Jinshi didn’t go out of her way to inquire about the identity of the girl who congratulated her and Ding Long, nor did she deliberately seek out the results of Lan Li’s match with that girl. But, given that they were within the same circle, many things tended to reach her ears eventually.
For instance, even without asking, she knew that Lan Li was still in the capital these days, that he met the girl twice more, went to a movie, had two meals, and attended an art exhibition.
Nonetheless, Ding Jinshi didn’t know when Lan Li returned to the unit from the capital, although she was aware that he had already returned.
As the wedding date approached, Ding Jinshi’s engagements increased, not because of work at the unit, but because many wedding-related details required her involvement.
When people become busy, time seems to fly by, and Ding Jinshi, the soon-to-be bride, naturally became the subject of company jokes, even the leaders jested with her. That evening, as she prepared to go home after work, Ding Jinshi encountered an unexpected guest downstairs at the company — someone she truly loathed her entire life.
"Gu En, you’re not here just to specially congratulate me, are you?" Ding Jinshi addressed the naive girl before her with a tone free of politeness, "If so, I’d advise you not to. You’re so jinxed that I fear your congratulations could turn my happiness into misfortune."
"Ha, marrying a man you don’t really love, will you truly be happy?" Gu En bluntly challenged Ding Jinshi’s facade, "Others might believe you and Ding Long are madly in love, but that doesn’t mean I’ll believe it. More than anyone, I know how much you love my Brother Lan Li."
"It’s not as if anyone can live without another, nor does loving one person for a lifetime mean you won’t love someone else. Not just me, even your Brother Lan Li is interacting with other women now, isn’t he?" Ding Jinshi sneered.
Unexpectedly, Ding Jinshi’s words were mistaken by Gu En as an indication that, despite the impending marriage to Ding Long, Ding Jinshi continuously kept a close eye on Lan Li’s every move. To Gu En, it was clear that Ding Jinshi still harbored lingering feelings for Lan Li.
"I knew you’re still fond of my Brother Lan Li! How about a chat, any interest? I’ve had a change of heart and discovered that compared to you, that person annoys me even more. I’d rather see Brother Lan Li marry you than her," Gu En spoke with a tone of arrogantly bestowing grace.
