Starting Cultivation During a Trip-Chapter 301 - 170: Sect Leader Rank, Nine Refinements of Living Corpses! Dragon Tiger Mountain Zhang Family_2
According to legend, this method is divided into nine refinements, each with the same ritual process, but worshiping a different main deity in turn: Taiyi Celestial Venerable of Salvation, Nine Netherworlds Sin-Pulling Celestial Venerable, Venerable Celestial King of Wheel, Venerable of Great Tolerance, Celestial Venerable of the Fire Refining Pill Realm, Golden Palace Incarnation Celestial Venerable, Venerable Celestial Lord of the Red Palace, Carefree Joyous Celestial Venerable, and Venerable of Perfect Treasure Flower.
In the Nine Refinements, souls of the dead pass through pools and fiery marshes, thereby soaring to the Golden Palace and feasting in Yujing.
The book describes this as enigmatic, yet, understood thoroughly, it means not only can one deliver lost spirits, but also revive life by borrowing corpses.
"Nine Refinements of Corpse Rebirth, Profound Mystery Incarnation!" Liu Xingtui's eyes bulged wide as he stared dead at those nine bright lanterns, fixated on the human skin being suppressed there.
Nine Refinements of Corpse Rebirth—such a Great Skill requires at least the cultivation of a Sect Leader to preside and perform.
The Nine Daoist Realms: Qi Worker, Technique Apprentice, Profound Master, Spirit Department, High Skill, Mahasattva, Sect Leader, Observatory Master, and Celestial Master.
Above High Skill lies Mahasattva.
Mahasattva was also called Feathered Mage in ancient times.
The Daoist Scripture says: Nature Heavenly Tao Skill, Heart Thunder, not trapped in myriad bonds, Primordial Light illuminates all, attaining Feathered Flight—such is the Mahasattva.
This means that, upon reaching this stage, one's Dao Practice is deep, and the Primordial Spirit emits light, known as Primordial Light, also called Sexual Light, Spiritual Light, Wisdom Light, and so on.
In this realm, Primordial Spirit Emergence is possible, Divine Travel across all directions, soaring as if through Feathered Flight.
For those with cultivation like Luo Baizhang, when the Primordial Spirit separates from the body for only a few hours, great terrors arise—the flesh decays, and if the Primordial Spirit and body drift too far apart, they may tear one another, the body withers to death, and the spirit becomes a masterless wandering soul.
This distance is usually about thirteen kilometers; those with a strong Primordial Spirit can reach farther, but there are limits.
But upon entering the Mahasattva stage, Primordial Spirit Emergence for seven or eight days is trivial, even traveling a thousand miles at night, journeying from Beihai in the morning to Cangwu in the evening becomes possible.
This is already the legendary realm; since ages past, barely a handful have cultivated to such attainment.
Above Mahasattva is Sect Leader.
The so-called "Sect Leader" can preside over most fasting and ritual ceremonies, that is, Great Skills, possessing power to call wind and summon rain.
For example, Nine Refinements of Corpse Rebirth is a Great Skill that only a Sect Leader can set up.
"This is not a Divine Altar, but a Magic Altar... Looks like it's been here for years."
Liu Xingtui murmured softly, finally understanding why this grand hall was called the Corpse Refining Hall—they performed grand sacrificial rites, attempting to revive souls by borrowing corpses.
"My suggestion... everyone keep quiet and move past slowly." Zhang Fan didn't know what mystery lay here, but since this was a device left by a Sect Leader, it was best to act cautiously and not touch anything rashly.
"I agree."
"Let's hurry up and go."
The Liu Brothers took a deep breath; hailing from Zhenwu Mountain, they had heard tales of the fearsome Nine Refinements of Corpse Rebirth.
The three held their breaths and edged around to the side of the grand hall, making for the rear chamber.
Bam... clang... crash...
The side of the hall was piled with debris; after only a couple steps, they stumbled into some, and a barrage of grating noises echoed through the dark, silent hall.
"..."
"Careful." Zhang Fan couldn't help but say.
"Brother Fan, we didn't touch anything." the Liu Brothers chorused in reply.
"Just reminding you." Zhang Fan said, not turning his head.
"Brother Fan... Brother Fan..."
Just then, Liu Xingtui tugged at Zhang Fan.
"Alright, I'm not blaming you..."
"Brother Fan, look..."
Liu Xingyu's voice trembled. Zhang Fan raised his brows—looking up, he saw the nine lanterns flickering though no wind blew, shivering lightly—and then, under their astonished gazes, slowly extinguishing one by one.
In the next moment, atop the Magic Altar, the single lantern that had never been lit slowly brightened.
Zhang Fan's gaze narrowed like a thread; he sensed the hall grow colder, but after waiting a long while, nothing unusual occurred.
"False alarm." The Liu Brothers exchanged glances, then breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed that the so-called Nine Refinements of Corpse Rebirth was not as mystical as rumored.
"Wait... listen..."
At that moment, Zhang Fan pressed down on the other two's shoulders, signaling them to silence.
The three fell mute. The dim hall grew silent again, but faintly, an eerie noise reverberated, like someone blowing gently at their ears, or breathing softly...
At last, Zhang Fan's gaze landed on that piece of human hide, gleaming darkly—right then, it began to rise and fall, as if inflating. With each breath, the skin swelled fuller and fuller, until in the blink of an eye, it began to move...
Rumble...
The nine extinguished lanterns shot into the air; what had been just a piece of skin, was now standing upright—its body seemed filled with some force, withered and gaunt like a dried corpse, yet clearly human in shape.
On its limbs, head, throat, heart, dantian, and tailbone—nine places—there were talismans. Those nine talismans appeared to come alive, each seal mark writhing.
Next moment, that corpse shadow of skin slowly opened its eyes, emitting a dim yellow light like lantern flames.
"Not good!"
The Liu Brothers met each other's gaze—their hearts instantly plunged into the abyss.
Right then, the corpse-shadow of skin slowly turned around, its eyes devoid of human emotion, pinning the three in place.
"Scatter!"
Zhang Fan shouted fiercely, darting backward; almost at the same instant, the corpse shadow drifted directly before the Liu Brothers. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"One-inch Ding Fire!"
"Crimson Palace Li Fire!"
In a flash, the Liu Brothers reacted instinctively, not daring to hold back, unleashing their killing techniques—One-inch Ding Fire blazed at Liu Xingtui's fingertip without dying out, while Crimson Palace Li Fire roared and spat from Liu Xingyu's palm...
