Starting Tokyo Life From Inheriting A Shopping Street-Chapter 112
After confirming that Tsuki had started sweating, Shuichi headed off to school. Though the 38-degree experience was quite something, there was an Ultraman screening at school today—no way he was skipping class.
Despite rushing, he still ended up a few minutes late and got stopped at the entrance by the disciplinary committee.
"Chiba-kun, right?"
A rather cute disciplinary committee member—petite, with long black hair—looked up at him with an odd expression, scrutinizing him curiously.
"That's me." Shuichi nodded. "Am I getting a demerit? Go ahead, I don’t mind."
"Of course you are. If I let you off, the president would scold me," She replied matter-of-factly. Then, lowering her voice, she added with a gossiping grin, "But what I really want to know is—are you dating the president’s little sister?"
Shuichi gave a polite smile. “So this is the standard of our school’s disciplinary committee? Not bad, not bad.”
The committee member rolled her eyes. “Fine, don’t answer if you don’t want to. But you’re not getting past the president—she’s obviously keeping a very close eye on you.”
“That’s true.” Shuichi thought back to the morning’s events and nodded in agreement. “Pretty close.”
“…Just go in already.” The committee member didn’t pry further and stepped aside, watching as he walked away.
Even after he disappeared around the corner of the school building, she was still lost in thought.
How the hell did he pull it off? The president’s little sister was just as cold and distant as the president herself, and yet… he actually got her?
….
The last class on Wednesday morning was Economics, and once again, An took the initiative to team up with the two otakus, Chiba and Uchida. This time, her actions finally caught the attention of the class.
A trio of girls huddled together, whispering among themselves.
"Looks like the class rep is serious about this. That love letter last time clearly wasn’t a joke." Rina said, still finding it hard to believe.
"Ugh, what’s so great about romance anyway? The class rep is so smart—how can she not see through it?" Ako grumbled, kneading dough absentmindedly.
"Have you guys noticed? Chiba-kun looks… a little more handsome than before," Risa mused, stroking her chin as she observed Shuichi. "His hairstyle is different—much cleaner. His expression isn’t as gloomy as before. His complexion looks healthier, and even his skin seems better."
"Haaah?! You can tell all that? Just how much of a romance brain do you have? Do you spend all your time analyzing the guys in class?" Ako gawked at her in shock.
Rina also looked baffled. “Risa, your memory for this kind of stuff is kinda insane.”
“This isn’t even about memory,” Risa shot a glare at Ako before turning to explain to Rina. “Chiba-kun used to be just like Uchida over there in the corner. Now, compare the two.”
Hearing that, Rina and Ako quickly glanced over and made the comparison. A moment later, realization dawned on them.
“…You’re right.” Rina murmured in surprise.
“Huh. Guess you do have some brains after all, Risa.” Ako clicked her tongue in amazement.
Rina observed more carefully. “Now that I really look, Chiba-kun has changed a lot. His posture is straight, his expression is natural, his eyes are sharp, and he even has a slight smile. Compared to Uchida, his movements are noticeably more composed and confident.”
“Wait, that bastard’s slacking off! He dumped all the work on the class rep!” Ako, as always, had her focus on something entirely different.
“If Chiba-kun started working out more, he’d be a full-on ikemen… How did we never notice before? The class rep isn’t just a top student—her taste is sharp too.”
Risa sighed, looking as if she had missed out on a high-potential stock.
“…Wait, you’re not seriously thinking about this, are you?” Rina asked, speechless.
“She’s just having one of her usual delusions. Ignore her.” Ako waved dismissively, completely used to Risa’s antics.
….
Shuichi had no idea that he was gradually starting to attract attention and that his peaceful school life was about to be disrupted.
Just like last week, after making the snacks, he handed them all over to Uchida. Under the latter’s tearful, grateful gaze, Chiba left with An.
Up on the rooftop of the school building, An was absolutely thrilled. With her sister absent today, she could finally confess her feelings openly—no more sneaking around!
“Chiba-kun, I have something to tell you.”
“Oh? Another confession today?” Shuichi chuckled as he spread out a picnic mat, took off his shoes, and sat cross-legged, amused by the airheaded girl’s enthusiasm.
"Mhm, mhm, mhm!" An nodded enthusiastically.
"So, what’s the plan today? A direct confession or a love letter?" Shuichi asked with amusement.
"Neither," An shook her head. "Today, I’m going to sing my confession!"
"Oh? Singing?" Shuichi's interest piqued even more. This was turning into a full-on performance. "Alright then, go ahead, Class Rep."
An cleared her throat dramatically, then, in an adorably earnest voice, began to sing.
"Dango, dango, dango, dango…
Three little dumplings on a skewer, dango, dango…
Covered all over in soy sauce, dango, dango…
The Three Dango Brothers…
The top one is the eldest son, eldest son..."
As Shuichi watched the girl singing with complete enthusiasm, the corner of his mouth couldn't help but twitch.
Shuichi knew this song all too well—“Dango San Kyoudai”, a classic children's tune. It was the fourth best-selling single in Japanese Oricon history, outperforming countless pop songs.
The girl’s singing was actually quite good, but… a confession with a nursery rhyme? What kind of thought process was this?
And if she had to pick a nursery rhyme, did it really have to be one about food? She was literally drooling as she sang!
…Was he watching a kindergarten talent show right now?
"Slurp…" An swallowed her saliva, licked her lips, and then asked, "I like you, Chiba-kun. Will you go out with me?"
"Uh… well…" Shuichi felt a bit overwhelmed. "Let’s eat first. We’ll talk about this later."
"Oh, okay! Food!" The moment An heard the magic word, she instantly tossed aside her confession, happily sitting down and pulling out her bento, digging in with enthusiasm.
"Slow down. If it’s not enough, I’ve got more." Shuichi couldn’t help but chuckle. She was eating like she’d been starving for days—it was impressive she even managed to hold back long enough to confess first.
"Mm… I want some chicken breast too." An said, eyes sharp as she immediately spotted the food in Shuichi’s bento that wasn’t in hers.
Shuichi had no choice but to pick up a piece of chicken and pop it into her mouth. freewebnoveℓ.com
An immediately squinted her eyes in bliss, happily chewing away, her glossy little lips moving nonstop.
"Chiba-kun?" Noticing his gaze, she blinked a few times before something seemed to click in her mind. "Do you… want a kiss?"
"???!" Shuichi was completely stunned.
"Do you want a kiss?" Sitting in a duck-like position, An straightened up, scooted closer to him on her knees, took another bite of food, and asked again—this time, even more seriously.
Shuichi watched her busy munching away, the corner of his mouth twitching. “No need, eating is already keeping your mouth busy—let’s not add more work to it.”
Besides, any kiss right now would probably just taste like food.
Sigh… This silly girl is hopeless.
"Oh." An didn’t seem to mind at all and happily continued eating, her delight so obvious that even her toes wiggled restlessly inside her socks.
Since they were sitting close together, their feet happened to touch. Shuichi suddenly felt her nimble little toes playfully brushing against his own, teasingly curling and uncurling.
Damn… unintentional teasing is the deadliest. A ticklish sensation spread up his leg, making him feel a little restless.
"Something wrong?" An finally noticed his reaction as she reached her chopsticks toward his bento, tilting her head in confusion.
Shuichi caught hold of her mischievous little foot. “What’s with all the toe flirting?”
