Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 29: Vault
Classes ended around three.
Kyle was gathering his books when Brian called out, "Busy? Want to come with me to the arcade?"
Kyle gave a faint smile. It wasn’t often that he got invited, which meant the guy was actually trying to comfort him.
However, Kyle shook his head and told him, "I have plans."
Brian hummed. "Don’t tell me you got another girl right after."
Kyle noticed someone flinch in the corner of his eye, but he didn’t look toward that person. Instead, he shook his head. "Nah, just a friend. Well, thanks for the invitation though."
Kyle was going to visit his family in Fortis as well, but before that, he had scheduled a meeting with the strange girl.
Getting up, he took his bag and left the class.
...
Amanda did the same. She packed her bag and hurriedly left the class before Ethan or anyone else could stop her.
She walked a few steps behind Kyle, remaining discreet.
She didn’t know what she was doing, but she wanted to see where he was going.
It might be dangerous for him to wander alone.
That was the reason she gave herself. But truthfully, when she heard Kyle mention meeting someone, she grew curious.
She knew Kyle didn’t have any friends or relatives in the city. So, just for his safety, she wanted to see who he was going to meet.
However, just as she stepped out of the building, she received a call on the extra phone she kept for a single purpose.
The call was from the Commander.
{Where are you?}
Amanda swallowed hard. "Just... going back to my house?" Did Ethan tell her about Amanda leaving alone? That bastard. Tch.
{Go back to your team and report to the base. Your strategic meeting is scheduled in half an hour.}
Those words were absolute, leaving her no room to argue.
Amanda watched Kyle’s back as he walked farther away. She felt her heart slow down. Somehow, the distance between them felt as though it was widening.
...
Kyle let out a sigh as he stepped into the bus that would take him to the mall where she had called him.
He glanced around and saw only a few people. It was understandable. It was a weekday afternoon, and most people were heading back home after being freed from school or work.
He pulled the hood over his head and asked the system inwardly, ’How many Soul Points do I need to unlock that reward?’
[500SP, host.] 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Kyle nodded. ’Understood. I will try to farm at least half of it tonight.’
He had already gotten several locations from Veronica where he could use his skills. However, he wouldn’t blindly believe her and would keep a few escape routes in mind.
The bus soon approached the central part of town where the biggest mall was located. Its name was Lryod.
A strange name, but the place was popular.
Kyle wore a face mask, just in case. He didn’t even know why he was hiding his face anymore, but well.
As he approached the entrance, he noticed people glancing in a particular direction quite often.
Well, Kyle could understand them. Seeing a beautiful silver-haired girl wearing a black shirt and a green skirt was quite the sight.
Her hair was tied in a ponytail, and she looked much prettier compared to the last time.
One of her eyes was still covered with an eye patch, which meant she didn’t wear it for fashion.
Her expression shifted between elation and seriousness, which made Kyle chuckle lightly.
As he approached her, he said, "Sorry, didn’t dress up for the date."
He was wearing black trousers and a plain checkered shirt, which made him look presentable, but it was surely nothing to match her vibe.
She scoffed. "Who said I am here for a date? I just wanted to let you know a few things."
Kyle hummed. "Alright, tell me before I leave."
Her expression faltered. She clearly hadn’t expected him to say that.
Crossing her arms, she said, "Quite rude of you not to thank me for all the information I’ve been providing."
Kyle shook his head slightly. "Alright, Miss Veronica. Would a coffee do? Sorry, but I’m broke right now, so that’s all I can afford."
Her lips curved faintly before she nodded. "Yes, that should be enough."
They soon entered the mall side by side.
As they walked, Veronica heard him ask, "Have we never met before?"
She glanced at him before looking away. "No. I didn’t live in Fortis."
Kyle hummed in confusion. He had spent his whole life in Fortis though, so why was she...
"Don’t misunderstand," Veronica continued. "Part of the reason I kept your identity secret is because I see potential in you."
Kyle looked surprised. "Because I killed that Majin?"
Veronica nodded. "That, and... you fooled one of our best and nearly escaped our sight. Not to mention the Genesis you exposed that night. It was nothing normal."
Kyle had understood that as well. The system had notified him that when he used God’s Eyes by himself, he was nearly unlocking all of its features at once, which drained his Genesis quickly and radiated too much energy for any nearby Nightwalker to ignore.
But now, things were different.
"What is the range of these sensors, though? Back on the train, I wasn’t releasing that much magical energy, was I? And yet you sensed me... how?"
He had been curious about it since then. Because he believed that having the system control God’s Eyes had significantly changed the Genesis output.
Kyle might have been imagining things, but he thought he saw Veronica stiffen at the question. Then she suddenly pointed at a nearby store and said, "We should sit there. Let’s go."
Without waiting for him, she hurried toward the store.
Kyle was confused by the strange reaction, but he still followed her.
If the Aether World was a vault, Veronica was the key who would let him know all the minor details which the system couldn’t provide him
