Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic-Chapter 555 - Bride under the Moonlight
Chapter 555: Chapter 555: Bride under the Moonlight Chapter 555: Chapter 555: Bride under the Moonlight The bride under the moon was beautiful, with a white veil on her head and a white dress that fitted her figure perfectly, the width at the waist accentuating her slenderness. Her meticulously groomed hair hung down her back, and she wore a pair of black high heels.
At a glance, she appeared slightly taller than Iluna with the high heels on.
The reason she was thought of as a “Corpse Bride” was because, judging from the body shape and the blurred features, she was clearly the “fiancee” they had just seen in the house.
“Do you know what the relic is?”
Shard asked Iluna, the girl from the True God Church, who replied somewhat anxiously:
“There are too many relics capable of allowing a corpse to move. Without identifying more specific traits, I can’t give an answer.”
The Fish Training Ring that Shard currently possessed also had the ability to “resurrect” corpses, but putting that ring on a dead person’s finger and chanting spells resulted in consequences far beyond simple resurrection.
“For now, let’s test her strength.”
Shard said, and Iluna nodded beside him, standing shoulder to shoulder:
“Let’s make it quick. There are other residents on this street, and the Silence Charm doesn’t work well in this open area, remember not to make too much noise.”
The Corpse Bride did not attack while they were talking but stood quietly in the middle of the street under the moon, seemingly uncomfortable with the surroundings. Only when Shard drew the Moonlight Greatsword from the air and Iluna’s palms sparked with golden lightning did her stiff body begin to move.
Swinging a sharp dagger that emitted a cold light, she charged at the two standing figures like she was gliding. Before this moment, Shard could never have imagined a scene where a bride in high heels and wielding a sharp dagger charged under the cover of nightfall:
“Perhaps this could be material for Dorothy’s novel.”
He wildly thought to himself.
“Sunlight Gun!”
Iluna whispered as she cast the long spear, deliberately controlling its power, so it didn’t make too much noise.
The golden lightning pierced straight through the bride’s veil as she swung her dagger. When the metal of the dagger collided with the lightning, the weakened Sunlight Gun dissipated partially, but most of the golden thunder continued along the dagger blade, spreading into the bride’s body.
In the moment when the Corpse Bride’s movements abruptly stiffened, Shard’s figure appeared above her.
“Lagre’s Leap!”
Shard’s two hands holding the sword slashed towards the bride’s head, but at the last moment, the bride, recovering from the paralysis, raised her hand to swing her dagger upward. The collision of the sword and dagger sent fragments of silver moonlight scattering with a clang, and Shard, with both hands on the sword, forcefully pressed down on the bride’s dagger.
The material of that dagger was unknown, but even after colliding with the Moonlight Greatsword, it merely chipped at the edge of the blade.
“Good opportunity, Iluna!”
Shard said softly.
“Here I come!”
A black vortex appeared beside Shard, and Iluna’s hand quickly reached out, holding the Sunlight Gun high and slashing it directly at the bride’s face at close range. The Sun Church’s high-ranking Divine Art “Sunlight Gun” was known to increase in power the closer its range was.
Even though Iluna had reduced the power for the sake of silence, this nearly point-blank hit was still enough to destroy most targets.
But the one right now was not a normal target. Hit by the Sunlight Gun through her face, even tearing a large hole in her veil, but the corpse still maintained movement.

Wearing high heels, she kicked Shard away from her front, then she vanished into thin air, only to reappear behind Iluna, still holding the dagger.
“The ‘Sunlight Gun’ that restrains undead isn’t making a significant impact, and was that just now Spatial Movement?”
Shard couldn’t understand what could possibly create such a fearsome undead. Meanwhile, Iluna, detecting the sound from behind her and with considerable combat experience, didn’t even try to dodge, but instead called out the Ring of Fate.
The bell and whistle sounds of the Ring of Fate’s appearance were only clear at close range. And from the high-temperature Steam Mist, the golden Ring of Fate emerged, forcefully knocking back the corpse behind Iluna.
For average Circle Sorcerers, the Ring of Fate cannot be used as a weapon, but The Chosen One is different. In the Crystal Forest, she even held the Balance in the darkness, protecting Shard and Tifa.
“Spatial Stabilization Aura!”
Shard’s figure also appeared behind Iluna, activating the Arcane Technique that prevents enemies from Spatial Movement at the first instance. He swung his sword again, but once again the Corpse Bride’s blade blocked it, leaving yet another notch on the dagger.
This time, Shard noticed that the bride wore a wedding ring on her right hand, but unfortunately, the ring was just an ordinary object and not the relic causing the corpse to move.
“Balance!”
Golden ripples spread out. Shard, holding the great sword and contending with the Corpse Bride, clearly felt the bride’s strength rapidly weakening. At close range, looking at the veil that had been slightly cut, Shard also clearly saw the face behind the veil.
The damage caused by the Sunlight Gun had vanished, and the face of the bride was unmistakably that of the third missing corpse, Annie Julian.
“What exactly does her brother want to do?”
With a strong thrust, he firmly pressed the bride’s dagger back toward her body. As the bride continuously retreated, Shard unyieldingly pushed forward. Suddenly, from behind the veil, a mouth covered in bright red lipstick opened, and then, like a snake, a vibrant red tongue was spat out.
The tongue seemed aimed to pierce through Shard’s throat, but Shard, recently sprayed with darkness by Daknis, had already prepared for this move by the enemy. Holding the sword in his right hand, his left hand forcefully pulled from the upper right to lower left.
The tilted moonlight split, cleaving the slender tongue and leaving a rift on the pristine wedding dress, and then marked the corpse with a large gash.
No blood flowed from the wound as if the flesh had been seared; even if slashed, it was merely a slash.
Continuing to press down with the sword in his right hand, his left hand pressed directly onto the opponent’s face:
“Felian’s Witch Light!”
The dazzling yellow halo spread out layer by layer from his palm, under Shard’s control, the range of the Arcane Technique was merely the area beneath his hand.
The cold facial skin was the first to melt under his palm like lard, followed by layers of flesh beneath the skin and until it reached the hard skull. In but a breath’s time, the hand Shard placed on the bride’s face, akin to a burning coal falling into butter, melted most of her face.
At the same time, pitch-black, filthy chains flew out from Shard’s sleeves, wrapping around the bride’s neck and body. However, the Corpse Bride still did not cease her motion, abandoning her weapon, and escaping the chains like a phantom shadow.
That shadow, seeming to glide, retreated dozens of steps; then, she stood motionless again in the middle of the street under the moonlight.
“Shard, look!”
Iluna pointed at the scar left on the corpse by Shard’s moonlight slash. The scar was healing, albeit slowly.
“We must create a large wound at once to stop her movements.”
Shard also came to realize:
“Not only can the opponent use Spatial Movement, but she can also utilize shadows, and the body itself is extremely hard… Iluna, can you make her stand in place, motionless for at least three seconds?”
“Yes, I haven’t learned the Edict series of Arcane Techniques from that witch yet, but I think I understand the principles. Shard, there’s only one second!”
As she spoke, the seventeen-year-old girl quickly walked towards the corpse.
Shard threw down a frog leg and jumped, lightly landing on the rooftop of a second-floor shop facing the street. He lifted his head to gaze at Silvermoon above, then crossed his arms in midair creating crossed silver Light Traces.
The crossed moonlight hung in the air. Calculating the distance and angle, Shard tossed a stack of 54 cards into the night sky. Interchanging, the cards stacked up under the effect of the Arcane Technique “Treasured Item” and formed a block the size of two open palms in mid-air.
“Now!”
The golden Ring of Fate behind Iluna melted like molten gold, reassembling itself into the Golden Scales:
“Edict!”
She whispered softly, her eyes wide as she stared down at the bridal-veiled corpse under the moon, clasping her hands together, pointing at it with her middle finger:
“Stop!”
Quickly turning to face the night sky, Shard, under the moon, spread his arms and leaped. He gracefully reached mid-air, pressed his hand against the high-floating Roder Card to adjust his foothold using the opposing forces, and then kicked downward with both hands forcefully.
His body slanted down, touching the hanging crossed Light Traces. Then, his feet stepping into the center of the crossed moonlight, silently descended, and the Corpse Bride, struck by the charged moonlight falling from the sky, was split unevenly into four sections from the right shoulder.
Shard landed, leaving crossed indentations on the street, while the four neatly sliced sections of the corpse turned into flying ash behind him. The ashes, like slender streams, flowed into the tightly closed grocery store door.
Shard did not turn around, instead staring at the marks on the ground in a daze:
“Breath of Ages!”
Drawing a sharp breath, as invisible currents rose from the ground into Shard’s nostrils, the broken cobblestones beneath his feet reversed time, returning to their intact state from three seconds earlier.
The hurried Iluna who had seen this didn’t say much:
“It seems like the opponent has disappeared due to severe injuries. Let’s take this opportunity to go inside and capture Toby Julian. Whatever that was, it definitely cannot be dissociated from him!”
“Look at the upper left window.”
Shard lifted his head to look at Mr. Julian’s third-floor window. No lights were on in the third floor, and in the gloomy moonlight, behind the corridor’s glass window, the veil-lifted Corpse Bride slowly retreated, her lifeless eyes along with her body, fading into the darkness.
“I really hope I don’t have nightmares tonight.”
Shard thought again:
“Third floor, the opponent is on the third floor.”
The two approached the grocery store’s entrance, Shard unlocked and burst into the store. Shard, holding the Moonlight Greatsword, led the way while Iluna cautiously followed behind, guarding against potential attacks from behind.
The recently floating ashes in the air left extremely faint traces of the “Whisper” element. Following these traces, the two traced their way to the third floor. With no lights on the third floor corridor, Shard peered into the darkness at the spot where the Corpse Bride had appeared:
“This way, in the room at the end.”
The two walked silently along the corridor, not knocking but simply touching the lock. Such a purely physical door posed no obstacle to him.
Drawing a deep breath, Shard suddenly shouldered the door open. As he charged into the equally dark room, a shout came from behind the wall near the door:
“No one will stop me, you all go to death!”
