Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic-Chapter 564 - Autumn Days
Chapter 564: Chapter 564 Autumn Days Chapter 564: Chapter 564 Autumn Days “Priest, speaking of which, where exactly are you going? You still don’t know the destination at this point?”
While signing the “Group Circle Sorcerer Signature” section on the “Correspondence Circle Mage Outing Application Form,” Shard asked curiously.
“Mountain City: Midshire Fort.”
Priest Augustus lowered his voice, as he was organizing other documents on the other side of the desk:
“That’s what Bishop Owen found out for me, otherwise I wouldn’t even know what clothes to choose. Don’t tell anyone else, the Papacy doesn’t allow gossiping about it.”
“What a coincidence? One of my clients also went there.”
Shard said with a smile, handing the application form back to the priest. The cleric frowned as he looked at the sheet of paper he was holding, which was the “Saint Byrons Integrated Academy: Long-term Outing Guide for Correspondence Ring Sorcerers” and the “Saint Byrons Correspondence Student Regulations: Residency.”
As a formal Academy, Saint Byrons had particularly complete, or rather, intricate regulations. The school rules that had accumulated over the two Eras were not joking matters. According to the priest, he would have to fill out a stack of approval forms before leaving, and those papers could even be bound into a thin book.
“However, Midshire Fort City…”
Shard recalled another matter. When he received the [Demon Hunter Seal] from the ophthalmologist, he also learned of the whereabouts of a Relic Longsword. Like the seal, it was equipment left behind by the demon hunters of the Third Era, and weapon-class Relics were the most precious among all relics.
The longsword was buried at Sicarl Mountain, and Midshire Fort City was situated at the entrance to the mountain, right at the foot of Sicarl Mountain.
He had originally planned to accompany his cat on a long journey to retrieve the sword himself once he was more at leisure. But since the priest was going nearby, Shard decided to inform him about the sword.
He didn’t know the specific information about the sword, only that it was a silver sword, without any curse, and could be used as soon as it was found. The cleric had heard about the sword when Shard talked about the [Demon Hunter Seal], so he promised to help Shard retrieve it from the mountain if he had the time.
“But that was after all a matter of centuries ago, and we cannot rule out the possibility that the Relic might have been taken away by a Circle Sorcerer by accident.”
The cleric said, and when faced with situations, the Old Cleric always liked to consider the worst outcome first.
“No worries, it’s a windfall anyway.”
Shard was quite open-minded about these things.
This afternoon, he ran tasks for the priest, acquiring several stamps at City Hall. The Academy’s documents required Priest Augustus to prove that he was indeed a permanent resident of Tobesk. Although Shard didn’t understand the significance of this proof, the City Hall was on Silver Cross Avenue, and on his way home, getting the stamp and giving the documents back to the priest the following afternoon was not troublesome.
Shard was now somewhat of a celebrity in Tobesk, though this “fame” largely came from Miss Galina. Nevertheless, this did not prevent him from receiving preferential treatment at City Hall.
At least he did not have to queue or bring back Priest Augustus’s tax certification to get the stamp. Shard couldn’t clearly say whether he was happy or sad about this “preferential treatment.” But all in all, it was really good not to waste any time.
By the evening of that day, Iluna and Luviya had come to Saint Delan Square, and the three, who had not gathered together for a long time, ate dinner at a restaurant on Silver Cross Avenue and listened to Iluna complain about how heavy her current workload was.
Shard and Luviya were able to rest for a while, but as The Chosen One, Iluna could not rest at all. After the Darkness Descends event in Tobesk ended, people were increasingly aware of the importance of the “Whispering Verses,” and a series of plans revolving around Iluna were unfolding, making her life the real definition of vibrant and colorful.
Even if the church did not assign her tasks, fate would guide the seventeen-year-old girl to become stronger gradually, such as when investigating a common corpse-dumping case with Shard, only to inexplicably stumble upon a Relic.
Fortunately, Iluna’s peculiar luck did not strike on this particular evening. The three of them had dinner together, then went to the Draleon Royal Opera House to watch the opera “Eight-winged Archangel,” and everything went smoothly without incidents.
The opera let out at half-past nine in the evening, and afterwards, the three returned to No. 6, Saint Delan Square, to discuss their future plans and the gains Iluna made learning about the “balance” power at Miss Galina’s.
She now visited the witch’s estate on weekends, as Miss Galina valued her new student greatly.
On a night in early autumn, to be able to sit at home with friends, sipping tea, nibbling on pastries, and comfortably talking about each other’s futures and lives, was indeed a delight. Not until half-past ten did they end their get-together for the day.
Shard had wanted to escort the ladies downstairs, but Luviya insisted it wasn’t necessary:
“We’ve been to your place before.”
So Luviya and Iluna descended the stairs together, discussing the decor of Shard’s home as they went, and even commenting about the copperplate engraving on the staircase landing.
Arriving at the hall to pick up their hats, Iluna stepped out the door first, still talking:
“That’s why I’m saying, if Blackstone Security Company put out some ads like Shard does, business might actually be better. But the captain says our existence is not to serve the citizens of Tobesk, it’s for…”
She walked down the steps at the entrance but, turning around, saw Luviya standing at the door, holding it open, without stepping out. The gas lamp in the hall illuminated her shoulder-length brown hair and the purple eyes of the prophet as she showed an expression that seemed like she had forgotten to turn off the gas at home.
Their eyes met, and the seventeen-year-old girl swore she saw a mischievous look in the other’s eyes for an instant.
“Oh, there’s one more thing I forgot to tell Shard about, regarding the Big City Player, I’ve received some inside information, be careful.”
Luviya said.
“Then let’s go back up.”
Iluna took off her hat, intending to reascend the steps.
“No, no need, I’ll go up by myself. Iluna, you should head back, sweet dreams.”
Iluna lived in an apartment arranged by the church, very close to Blackstone Security Company, in an area between the North District and West District. Whereas Luviya lived in an apartment she rented, which was farther east than Saint Delan Square. Since they were not heading in the same direction, Iluna did not object and, after wishing Luviya a good night as well, she left alone.
Listening to the sound of the door closing behind her, the seventeen-year-old girl continued forward, thinking about making another “Sunlight Gun” brooch for Shard to wear in a few days.
Thinking of Shard and his cat, and recalling the expression of Luviya’s beautiful purple eyes when they said goodbye at the door, Iluna suddenly stopped under a gas streetlamp in Saint Delan Square.
She looked up at the exquisite style of the gas streetlamp, frowned slightly, and turned to look at the second floor of the Shard Family’s home. The curtains were drawn tight, and although the gas lamp inside was on, no shadows could be seen through the window.
The early autumn evening wind tousled her long hair, bringing a touch of coolness, and she mumbled thoughtfully:
“Those two… is there something they’re keeping from me?”
Unable to figure it out after much thought, she could only shrug and walk toward the street corner to catch a cab:
“So many things have been happening recently, where exactly did that contract come from, and to think, the Truth Society is somehow involved with the collapse of the ancient tower on Karas Mountain…”
The convenience of living in Saint Delan Square was that no matter the time of day, one could always find a cab at the corner of the street.
As for No. 6, Saint Delan Square, the quite aggrieved Mia, unusually left outside the bedroom, spent the night on the sofa. As a result, when Shard opened the bedroom door at seven o’clock the next morning, he was almost knocked over by the cat, which jumped up like a cannonball… out of fright.
“Your cat is truly amusing.”
Luviya, sitting on the edge of the bed, attended to her hair, gently said. With the curtains drawn, the room seemed somewhat dim even in the morning. Luviya put on a pendant with a family photo in it, and the cold pendant touched her skin.
“Sometimes I really wonder why it’s so smart.”
The cat, held by Shard, was licking the light red marks on Shard’s neck.
“Perhaps it’s because its master is quite smart. And also very…”
Luviya complimented Shard, then changed her tone:
“…strong. I had a very pleasant night, Knight, maybe in the future I can come by more often, your service was quite extraordinary.”
Shard felt that something was wrong with these words.
Nothing interesting happened the following weekend, but the newspapers started publishing more news about the Big City Players, even His Majesty the King mentioned it during his speech in the Council, allowing the recent news of Prince Sax being convicted of treason to gradually fade from people’s memory.
During the study session on Saturday afternoon, the Priest officially announced to the others that he would be leaving Tobesk City by train next week, promising to send postcards and bring back a gift for everyone upon his return.
Apart from attending the farewell lunch at noon, Shard had his own matters to attend to at the study session.
Since he had already mastered the Academy’s first recommended Second Ring Spirit Rune “Light,” “The Mad Light Chaser” was temporarily returned to the Academy by Shard. It was certainly possible to get another Spirit Rune related to “Light” from this book, but the chances were low.
Therefore, pretending to have obtained the Spirit Rune “Melting Light,” Shard sought the Academy’s opinion on what his next Spirit Rune should be.

He did not reveal his advancement to the Third Ring, so he was currently inquiring about the Second Ring – which Spirit Rune would be most suitable to pair with his system. Saint Byrons had trained Circle Sorcerers for thousands of years, and their advice would definitely be better than Shard leaving it to chance.
The Academy’s response would be given, probably next week.
