Chapter 569: 569 Chapter 569: 569 Shard had been really looking forward to the week when “God’s Gift Box” would give him some unexpected gifts. For instance, at the start of a new week, he hoped to gain something valuable effortlessly, like acquiring some valuable blood directly from the Gift Box.

However, the “Creator of Innocence” did not respond to Shard’s craving. This week, the box contained a piece of butter cake as the gift.

Unfortunately, Shard had the habit of not looking, but directly reaching out to grab the gift, to create a sense of anticipation for himself.

Thus, when he reached into the box and felt something soft and squishy, he first thought he had touched some unspeakable substance… fortunately, it was just a hand full of cream, which he ended up eating as a late-night snack.

This greatly annoyed the cat because Shard didn’t share any with it.

The requirement for the week was merely to donate at least half a pound to children’s welfare facilities which, for Shard, meant just a trip out.

On Monday morning, he sent a letter to Miss Galina. In the afternoon, the carriage stopped outside No. 6, Saint Delan Square, and he went to Yordle Palace to meet Duchess Larus III. It was a good opportunity for Shard to meet her.

In the living room at home, Shard told the Witch about his experiences last night and asked her to check his eyes.

Normally, any harm incurred in the past would disappear upon returning to the present, but the twinkling lights in his eyes caused by drinking the “Star Ocean Whale” blood brew did not vanish after he left the Time Corridor.

This was probably because such a phenomenon could not be considered a harm.

“I know of this,”

After Shard lifted his head and embraced it, letting the Witch closely examine his eyes, she suppressed a giggle and provided an answer,

“The powerful witches of the Fifth Era had a custom of consuming a magic potion made from ‘Star Ocean Whale’s’ blood to make this phenomenon appear in their eyes.”

“Why? Does it enhance power?”

Although he felt the power of the starry sky, Shard hadn’t directly gained any new strength.

“No, because it looks very nice.”

The Witch, resettling across from him on the couch, spoke somewhat dissatisfied,

“Just because those women wanted to look pretty, the Fifth Era’s hunting of Star Ocean Whales caused those beings, which lie between material and star bodies, to significantly extend the intervals they pass through the material world. Did you just say, that witch from the Fifth Era mentioned the whales appear every 300 years? No, no, it’s not 300 years now. According to the records from the late Fifth Era, the intervals had already reached 1200 years. Throughout the Sixth Era, the recorded appearances of Star Ocean Whales in the material world happened only once in over six hundred years of the Common Era Calendar, and that was even a rare occurrence of them appearing in groups, all because of those women from the Fifth Era.”

She huffed with great discontent.

Shard felt that Miss Galina was probably not a whale conservationist. Her dissatisfaction stemmed simply because she couldn’t obtain the whale blood needed for the magic potion.

“So, was it that witch I met who spread the effects of Star Ocean Whale blood?”

“I do not know about that,”

Miss Galina shook her head, as she dressed formally today for her meeting with her nephew, the current King, at Yordle Palace.

“So, does the Council’s records mention how this can be eliminated?”

Shard gestured to his annoyed eyes and took the teacup handed to him by Tifa while quietly expressing his thanks.

“Though it’s only visible up close, I’m too scared to go out with eyes like this. The day after tomorrow, which is Wednesday, I still have to attend the semifinals of the Big City Player competition.”

“It cannot be actively eliminated but must wait for the effects of the magic potion, or in your case, the blood brew, to dissipate on its own. I have no clue how that deity processed those bloods or the dose you consumed, so I cannot provide an answer,”

The Witch continued laughing as she spoke, as if finding Shard’s unhappy expression amusing.

“But your eyes are very beautiful now.”

Tifa complimented him from the side, but her praise did little to console Shard.

“Don’t worry, based on your description, I think this situation will disappear in at most a week. If you want to go out and play cards tomorrow, I’ll have Tifa bring you an eye-shadow that can change eye color and apply it for you.”

This magical “eye-shadow” sounded like something the Witch Council could provide.

“That would be great.”

“Don’t get excited too soon.”

Miss Galina glanced at Tifa, took the other maids, and temporarily went to the kitchen. What followed was a discussion about the Evil God, a topic so weighty that ordinary people and low-level Circle Sorcerers were better off not hearing, and without talking to Galina, Shard couldn’t even fully tell others about the party.

“If I had known about this, I wouldn’t have given you that key. You actually attended the Evil God’s party, which is really…”

“It’s okay, I’ve encountered more dangerous situations. The current trouble is merely collecting two types of blood.”

Shard didn’t feel much pressure:

“I would have found the key myself and encountered this situation sooner or later. However, I hope you can help me collect some more detailed information about that deity. Since The Great One still exists to this day, I suppose there should also be documents about the deity’s party that I can refer to.”

“That should be easy.”

Miss Galina agreed:

“But those two types of blood, how will you choose them?”

“After the Big City Player championship, if I can win the title, then another chunk of money will come in. Originally, I planned to use it to purchase expensive defensive Arcane Techniques at the Academy, but now I can use this money to buy blood.”

Valuable blood is not necessarily very expensive, as not all blood is used as ingredients in Magic Potions. The key to buying two types of blood is not so much how many Gold Pounds he has, but how much luck he has. Of course, that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t prepare financially; Shard, who wasn’t very concerned about the championship of the Big City Player before, now sets his sights on winning the title.

“And there’s the two thousand pounds from the ‘Ash-Head Eagle’ task.”

“I need to think about this one. If I can manage not to get involved in this messy affair, I’d rather not.”

“I will keep an eye out for you too, but the kind of blood that satisfies a blood-sucking deity might really need careful consideration. Blood…”

The Witch looked at Shard, lost in thought.

The maids returned to the living room, and Shard asked Tifa for the small makeup mirror she carried. He looked at his own eyes in the mirror:

“They really are beautiful.”

It was as if his eyes contained a whole Star Ocean.

“Is this narcissism?”

Her voice echoed in his ears.

“Aren’t you the clearest on whether I’m ‘narcissistic’?”

Shard said, looking into his own eyes.
