Stepping on the Demoness to become the strongest-Chapter 617 - 78 Ningning Strikes Out
Su Yunjin had a dream.
In her dream, she somehow found herself back in high school, surrounded by chattering girls divvying up the snacks some boy from the neighboring class had sent her, discussing which of her male admirers was the handsomest.
Centered amidst the adoring crowd like a star encircled by the moon, Su Yunjin leisurely organized her backpack, as if the topics discussed had nothing to do with her.
Since fourth grade, she had been receiving expressions of affection, both overt and subtle, from the opposite sex and had grown quite accustomed to it. Sometimes she couldn’t help but wish she wasn’t as pretty, for the world was full of "vulgar people" who only liked someone for their face. She found such superficial attention utterly uninteresting but couldn’t very well wear a "face dogs, don’t bother me" sign, so she resorted to radiating indifference.
Though, in truth, it wasn’t much use.
After school, as everyone gathered at the school gate, a luxury car was parked beside the road. A boy alighted from the driver’s seat, showing off with a press of the car key, and the rear passenger door lifted automatically, revealing half a car’s load of champagne roses.
The bystanders, whether onlookers or planted shills, burst into admiring gasps as if wishing they were the recipients of such grandeur.
However, Su Yunjin felt like cursing; the boy was heading straight for her.
"Yun Jin!" he greeted her warmly. "Are you free tonight?"
"No," Su Yunjin replied coolly. "Sorry, I have to go home in the evening."
"How about tomorrow?" he began to invite her out with overflowing enthusiasm.
Su Yunjin was irritated. They had only seen each other in the teacher’s office before and never even chatted. Why was he inviting her out as if they were close friends? Didn’t he find it terribly awkward and embarrassing?
Her gaze began to scan the surroundings subconsciously, searching for a potential savior.
In the past, no matter how much he buttered her up, she would smile and decline until he ran out of patience, either parting on a false cheerful note or walking away gloomy, and there were even those who snapped and hurled insults. Regardless of their reaction, Su Yunjin didn’t care and felt relieved once they left.
But a voice inside told her: Seek help, he will come to your rescue.
In the dream, where the heart dwelled, the eyes would soon find.

Suddenly, Su Yunjin’s face lit up with joy as she ran over and hugged Yan Yu, who was emerging from the school, saying:
"Sorry, I’ll be spending this summer vacation with my boyfriend~ I can’t accept your invitation, apologies."
"Classmate, who are you?" Yan Yu asked in confusion.
"Shh, don’t talk," Su Yunjin whispered. "Do me this favor, and I’ll owe you one."
The boy with the luxury car was incredulous as he looked at Yan Yu and exclaimed:
"He’s your boyfriend? Impossible! How could you choose him over me? Is this guy better looking, richer, or more charming than me? Is he better at winning your heart?"
"Your understanding of love is too superficial," Su Yunjin shook her head. "What you like isn’t me, it’s just my appearance. If you meet a girl prettier than me, you’ll quickly fall for her instead."
"But the reason I like him is simply that he is who he is. Whether he is handsome or ugly, rich or poor, whether he makes me happy or treats me indifferently, I will always like him. Can you understand that answer?"
"I can’t understand," the boy with the luxury car said with a grim expression. "He clearly doesn’t know you!"
Turning to face Yan Yu, Su Yunjin put her hands on his shoulders and said earnestly:
"Then, let’s get to know each other again. I’m Su Yunjin. At this point in time, you probably don’t know me, but all you need to remember is ’I like you.’
"Oh, really?" Yan Yu wrenched free from her grasp, stepping back and readying his fists. "Well, bring it on."
"Huh?" Su Yunjin was speechless.
"I intend to become the strongest man alive," Yan Yu declared, bouncing around like a boxer. "If you want to be a woman who’s worthy of me, you’ve got to be able to take a punch. Come on!"
Before Su Yunjin could reply, her stomach suddenly received a punch from Yan Yu, causing her to almost double over in pain.

Around five-forty in the morning, Xie Ruoxi was woken up by her full bladder and planned to get up to use the restroom.
Of course, the one in Yan Yu’s room. The communal bathroom down the corridor was too far away, she was still a bit groggy, and didn’t want to walk that much.
After pushing aside Sister Zhao’s big white legs and shifting Ningning’s arm to the side, Xie Ruoxi carefully climbed out of bed, trying to make out the positions of the three people sleeping on the floor in the dim light.
She couldn’t step on them.
Even though their sleeping spots were close together with hardly any gaps showing, she could still tell who was sleeping where by the rise and fall of the bedding.
Stepping over the trio, Xie Ruoxi made it to the restroom. After taking care of business, she intended to head back to bed. She stepped over Chen Lingyun first, then over Yan Yu’s spot, but just as her foot came down, she stepped on something soft and a pained cry rang in her ears.
Disaster! She had stepped on someone’s stomach!
Xie Ruoxi didn’t realize that Su Yunjin hadn’t slept in her own bed but had instead snuggled into Yan Yu’s blanket, sticking close to him, so as she tried to step over Yan Yu, she accidentally stepped right on her—fortunately, her weight wasn’t fully on her forward foot yet, so she quickly withdrew it, crouching down and zipping into the nearby blankets like a rabbit diving into a hole.
