Chapter 17: She Is Missing!

"We should put down the fire and save her!" someone in the horrified crowd shouted, pushing through the onlookers and rushing toward the blazing car.

"How does he know it’s a woman inside?" a woman murmured, clutching her partner’s arm. The car was completely tinted, and no one had a clue about the driver.

The man reached the burning vehicle, his brows creased with worry, a smug smirk hidden behind his black mask. Looking around, he quickly grabbed a can conveniently left on the pavement nearby.

"Someone call the fire engines!" he screamed, hurriedly opening the lid, intending to douse the flames.

But as he tilted the can, a strong smell hit those nearby. Everyone’s eyes widened in horror. "Stop! It smells like kerosene!" someone screamed, but it was too late.

The masked man threw the liquid onto the car in one swift motion. The flames, which had begun to dwindle, roared back to life ferociously. A wave of searing heat swept around, forcing many to stagger back in shock.

"Holy shit!" a bystander screamed, their voice trembling. "He made it worse!"

While the man smirked, his task was complete. There would be nothing but the ashes of the driver left inside.

Azrael’s team who arrived just as Rivana’s car exploded, rushed out of their car, only to witness the man worsening the situation.

"Fuck!" The leader cursed, his jaw clenching. "Catch that bastard!" he ordered. One of the men sprinted after the man who slipped through the crowd.

Meanwhile, the four men in the other car who were after Rivana, stared at the scene in shock. This was never part of the plan! They were strictly ordered to bring her alive. Was someone else targeting her too?

But the urgency to flee outweighed their panic. As Azrael’s men turned their attention toward them, the driver quickly reversed and sped away from the street.

"Track them down," Dawn ordered in a frenzy, and another man rushed to comply. "And get the fire engines here now! Someone check the nearby shops for extinguishers!"

As his team scattered into action, Dawn looked at the blazing car. Taking a deep breath, he called Candy. "Boss!" he began hesitantly. When there was a hum from the other end, he reported, "Ma-madam’s car caught fire and exploded. I think she is dead."

The dead silence on the other end terrified him, followed by the screeching sounds of a car. Oh, this entire city would turn into hell tonight! He thought, glancing at the sky that had darkened gloomily.

---

Within minutes, fire engines, reporters, and law enforcement swarmed the street. Yellow caution tape stretched across the scene, keeping the growing crowd of reporters and onlookers at bay. Camera flashes blended with the dusk, capturing every grim detail of the disaster.

A sleek black Rolls Royce pulled up abruptly. The reporters fell silent for a moment, all eyes turning to the imposing figure stepping out. Azrael stood like a devil in a modern suit, his expression a mix of fury and despair.

"Shit!" Candy cursed under his breath, his eyes glancing at the completely burnt car.

"The scene is terrifying, nothing less than an action-packed movie. I am pretty sure the driver is dead inside."

Those words of an interviewee struck Azrael like a thunderstorm. He felt his heart stop beating for a sickening second. No... He couldn’t lose her again! He couldn’t let her die again! His mind raced in panic, the fear causing his chest to tighten. Without another second of hesitation, he tore past the yellow tape, shoving aside anyone who dared to block his path.

"Boss!" Dawn hurried over, but Azrael ignored him, focusing solely on the car’s burning remains.

Azrael’s heart rammed against his chest as he reached closer, his eyes searching desperately for any glimpse of Rivana inside. But all that greeted them were burnt parts and people moving around to erase the traces of fire.

"Did they move her already?" Candy asked Dawn, who shook his head, making him frown.

One of the officers recognized them and rushed over. "Mr. Dynar..."

Azrael turned to him as he approached them nervously. "Where’s my wife?!" he demanded, his tone sharp and unrelenting.

"She... she is missing," the officer uttered, visibly trembling.

"Missing?" Candy’s frown deepened.

Azrael took a threatening step forward, his eyes burning like an inferno that the officer gulped.

"Please. This way..." Leading them to the car’s burnt door, he continued, "When we extinguished the fire, we found no traces of her." With a frantic sigh, he added, "If she was inside the car when the blast occurred, at least there would be parts of her burnt body. But there are none."

Candy’s mind raced in confusion. "Could she have flung out of the car before the fire started?" he guessed.

But the officer shook his head. "I don’t know. We’ve searched the entire area, but she is nowhere to be found."

Dawn stepped closer, his face grim. "We looked around too, but there were no traces of her."

"It all looks strange as if she had vanished into thin air just before the explosion," the officer continued, clearly finding it unbelievable. Where was Rivana? No one had a clue. Was she still in danger? It seemed so, given how brutally her car was rigged to explode.

Azrael skimmed through the remains of the car. Relief washed over him, realizing she had escaped her death. But fear gripped his heart again, unsure if she was even alive!

"What should we do?" Candy asked worriedly.

Azrael ran a hand through his hair, his mind going blank with no plans whatsoever. A groan escaped his lips, cursing himself for letting her step out.

Callum’s phone rang, the sound piercing through the heavy silence. Pulling it out, he answered the unknown number.

"It’s me..." A weak, trembling voice greeted him.

"Rivana?" Callum shouted, drawing everyone’s attention to him. "Is that you?!"

Azrael quickly snatched the phone from him. "H-hello?" he hesitantly murmured, his heart racing with hope and fear.

But all he heard from the other end were soft sobs, each one slicing through his heart. It was definitely Rivana!

"I don’t want to die again. Pl... please... save me," he heard her whisper before the call ended abruptly.
