Chapter 48: I'm pregnant

Elaine sat on the couch, staring blankly at the steaming cup of tea in her hands. Her mind felt like a tangled mess—too many emotions, too many unanswered questions.

Adrian sat beside her, watching her carefully. After a long silence, he finally spoke.

"What are you thinking?"

Elaine let out a shaky breath. "I don't know." She looked down, voice barely above a whisper. "Trying to erase everything whatever i saw."

Adrian sighed, leaning back against the couch. "I get it. After everything, it's hard to process." He paused, then said gently, "But Elaine... you have to ask yourself: Do you still trust him?"

Elaine's grip tightened on her cup. Trust. That was the hardest part. She wanted to believe Alex, wanted to believe that Olivia had trapped him. But the image of that pictures wouldn't leave her mind.

"I don't know," she admitted, her voice breaking slightly.

Adrian studied her for a moment, then spoke carefully. "I think you should give him another chance."

Elaine's eyes widened slightly, turning to him in surprise.

Adrian offered a small, sad smile. "You love him. And if what he's saying is true, then this wasn't his fault. Olivia played him—just like she's played everyone else." He exhaled, rubbing a hand over his face. "But whatever you decide, I'll always be here. You know that, right?"

Elaine felt a lump form in her throat. She nodded, not trusting herself to speak.

Adrian stood up, giving her one last look. "Just... think about it."

And with that, he left her alone with her thoughts.

Elaine sat in silence, her thoughts swirling like a storm. Something wasn't adding up.

The photos.

She clenched her hands into fists. If Alex had truly betrayed her, why would there be pictures? Why would he be careless enough to let someone take them in his own room?

Alex wasn't a fool. If he wanted to cheat, he wouldn't have left evidence like that.

Her heart pounded as she replayed everything in her mind. The way Olivia had always looked at Alex—the way she had tried to control him. And now, this? The more she thought about it, the more it felt like a setup.

She reached for her phone, her fingers trembling.

She scrolled to Alex's number and hesitated, her thumb hovering over the call button.

Was she making the right decision?

Taking a deep breath, she pressed the button.

The phone rang once. Twice.

Then his voice came through, breathless and desperate.

"Elaine?"

She swallowed hard. "Meet me."

A moment of silence, then—"Where?"

She exhaled shakily. "The park near my hostel. Thirty minutes."

"I'll be there."

As she ended the call, she felt her heart racing. She wasn't sure what she would say, but she knew one thing—she needed the truth.

Alex was already there, standing near the park bench, his hands clenched into fists. The moment he saw her, his eyes filled with desperation.

Elaine met his gaze, and in that instant, she saw it—the silent plea, the longing, the hope.

Before she could say anything, Alex closed the distance between them in one desperate motion, wrapping his arms around her.

"Elaine, please—" His voice was raw. "You have to believe me. Olivia... she took advantage of me. She injected me with something. I—I tried to get away, but the drug—"

His voice broke, and she felt his body tremble slightly.

"I blacked out. And in that haze... I thought she was you."

Elaine flinched. She didn't want to hear more.

She placed her hand over his mouth, silencing him.

"Stop." Her voice was barely above a whisper. "I believe you."

Alex's body sagged with relief.

But she wasn't done.

"Even if I believe you... the image won't leave my mind." Her voice cracked, and she looked away. "I just need time to process everything"

Alex stiffened, guilt washing over him. Even if it wasn't his fault, she had to see him like that—with someone else.

His jaw tightened. "I understand."

Elaine hesitated before stepping back. "I need some space, Alex. I'll come back to you."

Alex held onto those words like a lifeline.

Hope sparked in his chest.

Maybe—with enough space—he could get her back.

Days turned into weeks. The distance between them had been unbearable, but Elaine had finally reached out.

She was ready.

Alex felt like he could finally breathe again. He clutched his phone, rereading the message over and over as a slow smile spread across his face. Without wasting a second, he rushed out, stopping by a florist to pick up a bouquet of fresh lilies—her favorite.

Standing in front of the café where they had decided to meet, he felt nervous but excited. It had been weeks since the incident. Olivia had gone silent, and that only meant one thing—she was planning something. But Alex was prepared. He had already set things in motion to deal with her once and for all.

As he was about to step inside the café, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Olivia.

His jaw clenched. He ignored the call.

A second later, a voice message came through.

"Alex, you need to come to the hospital. This is urgent."

Alex scoffed and shook his head. Another trick. He didn't have time for this.

Then, another message popped up.

"I'm pregnant."

His breath caught in his throat. The bouquet slipped from his fingers, landing on the pavement.
