Story Breaker-Chapter 14: Calamity Hunting Spree
Chapter 14 - Calamity Hunting Spree
I stood there for a moment until Arthur looked back at me, drenched in blood. "Hey, Yoon Harin, wanna team up? I can bring your teammate if you want."
'Excuse me?... Wait, I think I just found another free carry for the entrance exam...'
"Fine."
Arthur headed back to the cave and picked up Kim Taejune on his back. "Well then Im going to lead if you don't mind."
"I'm fine with that."
Arthur began heading west, passing the bodies of slain calamities. I quickly followed behind, recalling part of his backstory
'Arthur Corvin, the protagonist of Jiho's third book, 'Calamity Hunter.' Arthur was once a prodigy child until his entire life was ruined by calamities. His entire family, besides his father, was killed during the 'Oblivion' tower outbreak right in front of him when he was eight.'
'Ever since that day, Arthur has hunted and killed every calamity on sight while looking for his main targets, the 'fabled' calamities, or well, the 'fabled' calamity that killed his family at least...'
Arthur Corvin stopped and looked back at me as we walked. "Hey, Yoon Harin, if you don't mind me asking, how did your comrade end up like this anyway?"
'Ah, fuck it...'
"We battled a calamity and barely managed to beat it... Which caused Kim Taejune to faint from exhaustion, that's about it."
Arthur looked at me, tilting his head in confusion for a moment before asking, "I'm assuming you both used a healing vial? You both look completely uninjured."
'Maybe Kim Taejune has a regeneration skill?... I still don't know how he healed from all those cuts and bruises when he didn't even take a healing vial...'
"Yeah... we did..."
Arthur looked beyond the jungle and noticed a opening between the trees, "Seems weve reached the end of the jungle." He continued through the opening and scanned the open fields and hills ahead for any threats, I took a step outside the forest while following him the sun shone down on us, the wind gently blew through my hair, the air smelt of freshly cut grass.
'Seems peaceful...' I noted
Arthur noticed something in the distance: a big horde of common and major calamities. He gently put down Kim Taejune and looked at me. "Hey, wait here, I'm going to handle something..."
"Hey, wait-"
He quickly sprinted down the hill we were on before I could finish what I was saying. I paused for a moment noticing he was already fighting the calamities and slaying them in quick succession.
'Oh... he's already gone-'
I silently watched as he slaughtered calamities left and right, no matter the size. He continued to swing his blade over and over, in his eyes, there was only rage and vengeance.
'I should help him...'

'I'm going to regret this aren't I?'
'It should help train my stats and skills at least...'
I sighed before dragging Kim Taejune to a safe spot near the trees before I joined Arthur down the hill, readying my blade.
After rapidly scanning all the calamities in the horde, I began battling them, trying to keep up with Arthur Corvin's pace but was unable to.
'Fuck... I shouldn't have scanned them all at once-'
I grabbed my head for a moment, overwhelmed by information, until I was suddenly charged at by a calamity called a "Fragile Beast." It opened its mouth, but right as it reached me, I quickly slammed my blade against its neck while dodging its fangs.
*SHING! SHLERCH!*
Its purple and black fur was easily sliced by Eldrin's blade. Its deadly, poisonous fangs missed me completely as I severed its head clean off showering the ground and me with its yellowish warm blood. The wolf-looking calamity quickly fell dead, and I continued fighting the next calamity.
*SPLURCH! BANG!*
I blocked a bash from another common calamity, and while jumping back, I quickly slammed my blade into its core, killing the slime-like calamity causing it quickly turn into mush.
*SHIING! SHLLK!*
I watched Arthur while fighting the calamities, bodies of calamity continued to fall around him as he pierced and slashed, killing them with a single attack.
The different colored bloods of the variety of calamities, mixed and stained the grass making the field seem like some type of abstract art as more continued to fall to me and Arthur's blades.
*CLANG! BOOM- SHLLK! SPLEERCH!*
I rapidly parried an attack from a Goblin before slamming him into the ground by throwing him and stabbing them with my blade, killing another common calamity, its dark red blood spewing everywhere.
'I swear more appear when I kill one, is there no end to them?'
I noticed Arthur raising his blade while fighting, and more calamities began appearing from beyond the fields to join the fight.
'Fuck me... This bastard is using 'Calamity Hunters' second description, 'taunting' and 'calling' every calamity nearby to come fight him, Insane bastard...'
'Doesn't he know he could have hurt his teammates-'
I paused before recalling something about him and facepalming my face mentally, 'I'm stupid... He's the type of person to not realize anything about his allies when fighting calamities. Well, I guess I have to fucking commit to this because I doubt I can remove all the aggro on me.'
I looked back at where Kim Taejune was and was slightly surprised to see him perfectly fine while still being unconscious against the tree I had placed in front of him, noticing not a single calamity had gone for him.
'I guess the aggro from Arthur drew them away from Kim Taejune-' I sighed.
The battle continued for a few hours. Eldrin's blade continued to slash and pierce through common calamities easily while blocking the major calamities, allowing me to strategize against them.
Over time, my swordsmanship quickly increased, allowing me to cut down major calamities with ease, but I was quickly getting exhausted from the constant battle. I glanced at Arthur, who wasn't exhausted at all as he continued to kill calamities.
'How fucking large is this bastard's stamina?'
When the battle was almost over, while panting from the exertion, I noticed Arthur had killed the last calamity in the horde and was about to raise his blade.
*BAM!*
I quickly punched him in the face before he could gain more aggro from any nearby calamities. Stunned, he looked at me in shock.
'No more..'
I panted, trying to catch my breath before glaring at Arthur. "Enough, Arthur Corvin. I think you have killed enough calamities..."
