Strongest Dimensional Necromancer-Chapter 51: Resolution
His words were filled with absolute resolution. Power? Glory? Strength? Infinite food? He wanted it all. And he wanted his sister to witness everything.
Without even realizing it, he was building on his ambition.
His voice and tone were that of finality, but when Kivara heard it, she began to laugh, so hard that she gripped her stomach as she laughed.
Riven frowned, and a glint appeared in his eyes. "What? You think I can’t have it?" His tone was low and sharp like an assassin’s weapon.
Kivara stopped laughing and shook her head. "Ah, Riven. You can have it, but isn’t your dream too small?"
The tightening of Riven’s muscles disappeared as he stared at her in surprise. Of everything that he expected, he never thought that she would say something like that. "Too small? That city is so big!"
Kivara patted him on the shoulder. "I agree that it’s impressive, but this is only a minor sect, just a step above small sects. This is nothing, Riven. This sect is like a grain before a big storage. And this is Wild Province. We are not even properly in the Old West yet.
You must aim higher. Why do you want to rule over something this small? If you must eat poison, then why not eat the one that’s the most poisonous? One that will kill swiftly and quickly!"
Riven grimaced. Why does she give that kind of analogy? But his heart was stirred. All his life, he’d been the runt. His dream had been to survive in the village by being a practitioner and be able to provide enough food for his family.
But all that had changed. He wanted more. To bring his sister back and to look down from the top. What Kivara said was the truth. If you must do something, then do it to the utmost.
Even a tiger will use all its strength to hunt a rabbit.
And in the world of the practitioners, only the tigers can truly roar from the top. ’... I must be the tiger... no, I must not confine myself... if there is a step, then I must strive to take it...’
"What about you, Kivara? I want to look down from the top. What about you?"
She smiled. The darkness in her eyes seemed to swallow the gold. There was bitterness in that smile, a kind of twisted pain that was there and gone the next instant. But Riven saw it. He had seen the same bleak smile on the faces of mothers watching their children starve.
It’s the type of smile where even the tiniest strand of hope can’t be found. He was shocked. It wasn’t what Riven expected to see in her face.
She shrugged. "My dream? My ambition? I’ve never given it enough thought. Do slaves dream?"
Suddenly, her face changed. It twisted into bitter jealousy and a hint of hatred. "Why do you even think you have the right to be ambitious when you are shackled to that book?"
Before he could say anything, she was already gone, running back down the hill. Riven stared at the city one more time before he turned and followed her.
They didn’t talk much for the rest of the day, but Riven thought about what she said silently. He didn’t understand. Was she chained to something like him? And because he didn’t know the answer, he put it at the back of his mind and focused on keeping up.
By evening, she called a stop and pointed at a set of mountains at the top. "That is my sect."
After they finished resting, they finally made the last run towards it. The sect was built at the top of five mountains, connected together by rope bridges.
Beneath the mountains were villages and even some small towns that were under the protection of the Green Clouds Sect. The lands around the mountains were also part of the sect’s territory, so they owned the villages and towns.
"Come. Usually, we don’t get already made practitioners trying to join us, so I will take you to my master to know what he would say."
Riven nodded while he looked around the villages and towns as she led him to the mountains. ’... the difference between the small sect and the minor sect is big... too big... they can’t even be compared... then what about the other types of sect?...’
Riven swallowed. He couldn’t wait to see it all. To experience what the world has for him. And he wasn’t only carried away by the greatness of the city walls. No.
’... for there to be a small sect, then the difference is the power they each wield... those from higher sects must have more ranked practitioners than those from the smaller one... that must be it... because more power means more resources to enrich the sect...’
Riven’s eyes took on a slightly dreamy look, imagining himself ruling over countless cities and towns. The leader of a mighty sect. But he sighed and shook his head. "I must focus on my smaller goals for now." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Before long, they left the villages behind and followed a path that led to the base of the mountain. The path was set with stone and big enough for seven people to walk side by side comfortably.
At the moment, Riven and Kivara weren’t the only ones on the stone road. Carriages, horses, and different kinds of riding animals were being pulled forward.
Even practitioners were on the road, all of them wearing their robes with a mint green badge on their chest. They ranged from rank one to two and even some three.
But none of them greeted Kivara. They even got out of their way to avoid her.
And when they looked at him, they gave him a pitying look, as if they sympathized with him. Riven found the reaction very strange and curious and hurried to catch up with her.
What’s wrong? Was she getting bullied in the sect? Riven shook his head. Some things don’t really change wherever you are.
Then he began to hear the whispers.
"She’s back already? Shit. I thought she was gone for sure this time. Honestly, what’s she still looking for here? Can’t she just disappear?"
