Submitting to my Ex Uncle-Chapter 170
Music Recommendation: Call It What You Want by Taylor Swift.
.......
"Really?" Celeste smiled, shaking her head when she saw what stood in front of her.
It wasn’t a car. Not even his usual black SUVs. This was a whole chopper. She has never seen one before her, or even dreamt of seeing their existence. However, right now, one stood before her. Its blades were already spinning, and cutting into the air.
Dominic nodded like it was the most natural thing in the world. "Yes. I want to show you the city. And I want you to see the lake house from the sky."
Celeste’s cheeks warmed at his words. Her hair danced in the wind, flying into her face, but she didn’t care. He stretched out his hand, waiting for her to take it.
"Hold on," she laughed, drawing her hand back instead of taking his. She tossed her small purse at him. He caught it easily, his smile breaking through his lips.
However, it wasn’t just a smile. It was the way he looked at her when she thought she was being silly. He stared at her like she was the only thing in the world he ever wanted to catch.
Her heart skipped, feeling so warm and worthy of him. She bent, slipping off her shoes, and drew in a small breath when her bare feet touched the cold ground. It shocked her a little, and steadied her more than she expected.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yes," she whispered. This time, she didn’t hesitate. She put her hand in his, and let him lead her forward.
The closer they got, the stronger the wind pulled at her. Her dress clung to her legs, with her hair whipping in every direction. She held onto his hand tighter.
He didn’t let go, not even once. When the ground vibrated beneath her feet, his arm slid against her back, steadying her.
At the open door of the chopper, he leaned down, his lips brushing against her ear. His voice was steady, low, even over the roar. "One step at a time. Just hold onto me."
She nodded, her throat too tight to answer, and stepped inside. Dominic was built like a daydream.
The inside was warm, smooth leather and polished steel. Her nerves spiked, but before she could think twice, Dominic was right beside her.
He placed her purse aside carefully, then reached for the headset hanging by her seat. The world faded to nothing when she looked at him.
"Here." His voice was softer now.
He slipped it gently over her hair, brushing back the loose strands around her face. His fingers lingered too long near her skin, tucking them behind her ears. The weight of the headset settled over her, but it was his touch that made her draw in a shaky breath.
"You’ll hear me clearly in this," he murmured. "And I’ll hear you. No noise between us."
Her lips parted. She couldn’t even reply. She just nodded, and her hand found his briefly before pulling away again.
He kissed the top of her head, and then, his eyes dropped to her legs. "Your boots."
She blinked, glancing down at the fur-lined boots she’d kicked off earlier. "Oh—I’ll—"
However, Dominic was already crouching in front of her.
"Dominic—"
"No," he cut her off, calm but firm. "Let me."
Her breath stilled. She held her breath. He didn’t need to save her all the time, but this was a beautiful feeling. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
He slid her foot into the boot, steady and sure, then adjusted the cuff with his thumb until it sat perfectly against her leg. He repeated it with the other, his head bent, completely focused on the small task. When he finally looked up, their eyes locked, and her whole body heated.
"Perfect," he said simply, and went back to his seat like nothing had happened.
But for her, it was everything. Every little childlike task he did for her healed her inner child so well.
The moment they lifted, her stomach dropped. The world fell away beneath them, smaller, and softer, until she could hardly believe they were moving at all.
"Look," Dominic’s voice filled her ears through the headset. Just like he said, he did sound clear, and close.
She turned, and gasped like a child. Her eyes were wide and beautiful. Dominic smiled, and took her hand in his.
The city stretched out like a living painting, alive with lights. It was endless, and breathtaking. Everything glowed.
Her mouth parted, but she couldn’t find words.
Dominic wasn’t looking at the city. He was watching her. He hadn’t looked away since they took off. His gaze traced every flicker of awe on her face, drinking her in like she was the only view worth seeing.
"You’re not even looking," she whispered, her voice trembling through the mic.
"I see everything I need to," he replied, his voice steady as ever.
She nodded, acknowledging the fact he had luxury for a long time. However, heat burned across her cheeks. She tore her eyes away, staring back out the window, but her pulse was racing. His hand was still on hers, warm, and unrelenting.
They soared higher, the whole city unraveling beneath them. She took in every detail, her breath catching at the beauty she never thought she’d see like this. The rivers, the glow, and the horizon melting from orange to deep violet.
Then his voice shifted, softer now. "Look down, Celeste."
She leaned in. And there it was.
The lake. It was sprawling, endless, and cradled by thick trees. And on its edge, was the house she wanted.
She smiled so beautifully, staring at the white walls, and the long windows. The windows stood like it belonged only to them. The sunset brushed against its glass, glowing like fire.
Her chest tightened, her lips parting.
"Do you like it?" His voice was careful now. Almost fragile, like he was saying an inside prayer to be able to please her.
Her throat worked, her eyes fixed on the view below. She tightened her grip on his hand. "I love it."
Only then did Dominic glance down, just briefly, to see the lake house with her. Then his eyes were back on her.
He has nothing but his aching soul but if she could have every inch of the world because she wanted it, then she’d get it.
