[Quest Available!]

[OBJECTIVE: Eliminate the Half Blood.]

[REWARD: +2000 EXP, +150 CP]

[DO YOU WANT TO ACCEPT THE QUEST: Y/N?]

The words flashed on the side of Allen's eyes on a translucent screen, quietly waiting for him to make a decision.

Yes, I do accept the quest. Allen said internally.

[Understood.]

[QUEST ACCEPTED!]

Wait there aren't any buffs for me this time? Are you telling me I'm strong enough to fight this thing with just my base strength? You're kidding right?

You saw how that thing threw me like a ragdoll.

Allen's concerns were valid. After all, up until now the system had provided him with buffs for every major fight he had had.

Yet this time he was supposed to handle it alone with just his base, normal human strength.

[The system has assessed the current threat and determined that you are capable of countering it without any added buffs. Additionally, since you are also reaching the end of the tutorial the help from the system would slowly be reduced.] 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

The system's reply was the same as always, read out loud by an emotionless robotic voice.

Huh? What do you mean tutorial—

Before Allen could argue further they were again hit with that weird vibration produced from the half blood monster's scream.

Luna let out a long breath, closing her eyes for a second as she relaxed her body. She held her sword upside down with its tip pointing toward the ground before she released her grip and let it fall.

"Lament: Grade 3 activation," she said.

A faint golden hue surrounded the blade of the sword as it stopped in mid air, then it moved on its own and realigned itself horizontally next to Luna's shoulder.

With her fingers Luna pointed for it to go forward and the sword took off as if it was a missile, vanished from sight within seconds.

"I'll be going first," Luna said, turning and looking at Allen's face.

Before long she completely vanished from where she had been standing and in her place the sword appeared again. But even that wasn't for long since it again took off like before toward where the half blood monster was.

"Well, that's sure convenient," Allen said to himself after quietly watching the whole thing unfold.

His disappointment was understandable since unlike Luna he didn't have any option other than just straight up walking there.

A bike would've been so good at this time, he thought to himself as he began walking.

As he walked Allen began to ponder about how exactly would he go on about defeating this thing. After all, according to what Luna had said he was at least a quarter as powerful as a highlander.

And he had somehow managed to defeat the highlander by using mental tactics and taking him by surprise. But if this thing didn't have intelligence then none of that was going to work on it.

One thing is clear though, I can't go anywhere near it. Close combat is a total no go. Heck, I'd say even mid range is dangerous considering the length of those tentacles.

I don't have any buffs so going against that monstrosity with just my normal human body would be outright suicide. Hence I need to rely on my sweet guns and deal with it from a distance.

Although given its size and the way its built I'm a little worried about if the bullets are gonna work on him that well or not. If for example, say I had anti-tank rounds on me right now then none of it would've been a trouble at all.

But 5.56 mm…yeah that's gonna be stretching it. I don't have enough data or observations to draw a conclusion just yet though, so I guess the only way to find out is test it directly.

As he walked closer toward the half blood he equipped all the protective armor he had which he had put away in the armory while he was wearing that armor.

Kevlar vest, tactical elbow pads, and tactical gloves. It wasn't much but it was still better than nothing.

He then put his hands forward and the PNV-57 Nightvision Goggles he had, appeared on the top of his palms.

Sure the explosion and the burning tent had illuminated the area for a short while but the surroundings were still dark and if that fire went out then it was going to be completely light out.

Therefore he decided to use the night vision goggles which had been lying in his armory for quite a while now. He decided against using the night vision from the drone because it still wasn't done completely charging yet.

As he put on the goggles the darkness around him disappeared and everything was bathed in a bright and ghostly green light.

The golden fire was like a blinding white blob in his vision but the shadows around him were now perfectly clear. He could see every detail.

He started walking again and he moved past the wreckage of the tents.

The low and vibrating groan of the monster was constant. It made the lenses on his goggles shake and the image in his eyes rippled, like looking through water. He got closer to the main area before he stopped at a little distance.

The scene in front of him was hell. It was a complete and total butcher's shop.

The ground was not of soil anymore. It was painted red and black, with Randolf's soldiers were everywhere. They were not just dead. They were parts.

As the golden fire lit up the carnage it made the wet and fresh blood on the ground look black as it gleamed on the slick surfaces of things he didn't want to see.

He saw a torso. It was ripped in half at the waist and the spine was snapped. It was sticking out of the flesh like a pale, broken branch.

He then saw a head lying on the ground a few feet away. Its eyes were wide open and staring at nothing and its metal helmet was gone. The ground was slick.

Allen could smell the iron tang of blood. He also smelled the foul and sour odor of ruptured guts. Long and gray strings of intestines were draped over a broken tent pole.

They looked like some horrible, wet decoration.

A pile of arms and legs lay in one corner and were just stacked there. For a second they looked like firewood.

The monster was not just killing but rather it was completely destroying them, tearing them apart into a shape which no longer resembled a human.

It had ripped them into pieces.

What the…

As Allen looked at the scene before him he felt his stomach acting up, and before long he was forced to kneel down on the bloody ground as he could no longer hold his vomit.

Something like this was too much even for someone like him.

After all, no matter how much he tried to play pretend and behave like a soldier it didn't change the fact that he, in fact, was not a real soldier.

Still, he knew he had things to do. Hence he pulled himself together, wiping his face as he stood up and continued toward the half blood.

At this point, he had realized what Luna had meant when she was talking about half blood. These things really were nothing like the highlanders.

As he walked closer he then saw Luna and the half blood monster engaged in a fight. It was happening in the middle of this gory field.

Luna was a silver blur and she was moving with incredible speed, with her silver hair like a whip in the firelight. The golden firelight glinted off her sword. She was like a beautiful light in this ugly nightmare.

The half blood had turned completely into a dark and pulsating mass of meat. Its tentacles were even faster and they were black blurs of movements. They seemed to be everywhere at once.

Luna was trying to launch multiple strikes at him from all the possible angles she could manage, yet she was getting blocked by his tentacles and was not able to reach its main body.

However she didn't stop due to that and kept going.

She used the momentum she had fully before she spun around and charged in from the right. She jumped high into the air and brought her sword down in a two-handed chop.

She aimed right for its deformed and swollen head.

The other tentacle shot up from its back and met her blade in mid-air. The sound it made was dull and heavy. The tentacle was like hard leather and solid bone.

The monster's tentacles were a perfect defense. They were too fast and they seemed to block every single attack. It was almost as if he knew exactly where she was going to be and the tentacles were already in a position to defend that spot.
