Summoner Online: I Became the Tutorial Boss with a 999+ Villainess-Chapter 73: To truly see a monster.
Melty scrambled backward on the ground, her face etched with pure fear as she held her hands stretched out before her in a desperate defensive gesture.
"No... no... no no no, stay away from me. Stay away from me!!!"
While she screamed, clearly having already opted for the idea of running away, her partner, Grok, screamed at the side, practically begging her.
"Don’t run! Please come back! Don’t leave me with this thing!!!"
Kai sighed out loud.
"I know I am not exactly much to look at, but to run from the mere sight of my face is truly disrespectful. In any case, are you going to leave your partner here? Knowing he would die?"
Melty looked at her partner’s position, sweating profusely at the choice she was going to make, despite it being clear in her mind.
Because she was a mage, there were certain things she could see that most people could not. And in this case, she could see Kai for who he really was the moment he removed his mask.
What she saw was enough for anyone to break down in the moment and wallow in fear.
The dark mana oozing around him surged to the sky, looming bigger than the trees all around them. And even more terrifying were the constant shadows growing and seeping into the ground, fighting for the chance to be the one to touch Kai’s feet.
It was as though they were worshiping him, never caring if they would get mauled in the process.
At the sight of this monstrosity, Melty knew there was no chance in hell she was going to fight such a being, neither would she be deceived by the false level hovering above his head.
"I’m sorry!!!" She screamed at the top of her voice before turning and running away, tripping multiple times in her panic.
Kai sighed yet again.
"Humanity. You never cease to amaze me."
The disappointment in his voice could be heard out loud even though he was merely whispering those words to himself.
Then, the following second, he turned his gaze toward Grok, who was practically already bleeding out on the ground.
"It would seem you have quite the endurance. Any other person in your place would have been dead. Well, we can’t have that."
Kai pointed at Grok.
[The skill Laser Beam has been activated.]
Immediately, a fast red beam of light shot from his finger, flying straight at Grok’s head.
It left a deep hole in his skull, with smoke oozing out of the wound before he collapsed to the ground, dead with no chance of ever surviving such an attack.
[You have killed the player Grok.]
[30 exp has been granted.]
Kai stared at the system notification for a while.
’Still the same thing. The amount of exp I receive in the dungeon is far more than what I get when I am outside the dungeon. Well, I wasn’t chasing after exp, so it shouldn’t matter.’
He took a single step forward. This time, his pointed finger opened up into his palm.
Then, a rush of mist surged forward from it, completely devouring Grok whole in a matter of seconds, leaving nothing but his blade behind.
[You have devoured a player.]
[The blessing Resistance has been obtained.]
[Resistance:] You can physically ignore all damages done to you by anyone who is weaker, depending on their strength level.
[All memories have been transferred.]
[A new technique has been acquired.]
[Long Blade:] This technique allows you to master the fighting styles of a long blade user.
Kai was rather pleased by what he was seeing, all while the in-game memories of Grok began to flood his mind.
It was in that moment that he learned the truth and understood the true purpose of the two individuals who had attacked him.
’So that is how it is. It is the same thing whether in this world or my former world. Humans will always prove to be a nuisance in my life.’
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
’I know it is a simple matter that I can fix easily, but come on, you are not helping my stance of fighting the urge to take over the entire world. And I know just how much Sanovere really wants that to happen.’
After thinking for a while, he finally calmed himself.
He looked towards the left side of the forest, where Melty had run to in hopes of escaping him.
"You may feast on her. She is yours."
As soon as Kai uttered those words out loud, the magic beasts, all under Carlotta’s command, charged forward from behind the trees after shredding apart their invisibility.
They ran as fast as they could, drooling at the thought that they would get to kill yet another human.
From where Kai stood, using his aim lock skill, he was able to watch and see as the magic beasts caught up to Melty in a heartbeat, pinning her to the ground just so they could devour her piece by piece.
This was of course confirmed by the loud scream that left her mouth as blood spilled like the ocean onto the ground.
’That was quick.’
(My lord. Are you there?)
Carlotta’s voice echoed in his head.
"Should I take this as you have saved them?"
(Yes, my lord. They are safe with no scratches on their bodies.)
"Good. I am proud of you. I will be on my way now."
The connection cut off and quickly, Kai looked towards the broken carriage and began to search through the wreckage one by one, throwing the items into his inventory since those were the goods they were going to distribute to the distributors to begin with.
Their journey could not have been for naught.
Meanwhile, back on the main street...
"Is Mr. Aron alright?" Sophia asked, genuine concern on her face as she looked at Carlotta, who was standing at the center of the road, basking in the sunlight.
To most, she was probably just doing so because she liked it.
But what they were not aware of was the fact that she was slowly losing her mind, and if she didn’t do that, there was a chance she would have killed the two humans seated at the corner.
As such, she didn’t reply to Sophia’s question, trying not to break her concentration.
At least until Kai returned back.
