Chapter 41: Truth Or Dare

"Drinking like this is boring. How about adding some stakes?"

Manager Mina’s charming face was now just inches away from Jake. Especially after drinking, the allure in her expression became more pronounced. Her deep, mesmerizing eyes seemed to hook his soul, making it impossible to look away.

Even Jake, who had seen many beauties, was no exception.

It was hard to imagine what would happen if, in the future, he had the chance to be surrounded by the cold and noble president mother in law, the gentle and intellectual teacher aunt, the youthful and adorable girlfriend Mia, and the current domineering female superior.

Countless flowers would bloom in competition, each showcasing their beauty to the fullest. And who could outshine the rest, claiming the title of the fairest of them all?

In the quiet environment, with a beauty accompanying him, Jake couldn’t help but let his imagination run wild.

Then, remembering Manager Mina’s question, he replied, "Manager, what do you have in mind?"

"Hmm... how about we play Truth or Dare?" Mina thought seriously for a moment.

Jake was puzzled. He didn’t have much interaction with Manager Mina. Normally, after discussing work, they should each return to their rooms to rest.

But it seemed Manager Mina had no intention of letting Jake go. She wanted to keep drinking with him.

Jake didn’t know that ever since the selection results came out, Manager Mina had taken notice of him. It was just that Manager Mina’s mind was currently unreadable, so Jake couldn’t pick up any "inner voices."

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so passive, given that the two of them were strictly superior and subordinate.

Mina finished the remaining wine in her glass in one go, her fair cheeks flushing even more. "Like this, we take turns asking questions. You have to tell the truth. If you don’t want to answer, you drink."

Before Jake could respond, she answered for him. Jake had no choice but to agree, nodding. "Okay."

They each poured half a glass of red wine and sat facing each other.

The fragrance from Manager Mina grew stronger. Her delicate face was right in front of him. Earlier, when adjusting her sitting posture, the thin heel of her high heeled boots accidentally brushed against Jake’s calf. Even someone as composed as Jake felt a momentary stir in his heart.

He couldn’t look her directly in the eyes.

"Should I go first?" Receiving Jake’s silent agreement, Mina asked her first question.

"How’s Shigella?"

"Great!" Jake was telling the truth. He had initially thought such a large company would lack warmth, but the opposite was true. Although office politics and scheming were unavoidable, the average salary was much higher than at his previous company. As the saying goes, the more money, the fewer worries—this wasn’t without reason.

Moreover, the two colleagues he had met were gradually becoming friends.

In a game like Truth or Dare, honesty relied entirely on self discipline, since no one could truly know another’s thoughts.

Jake answered quickly, surprising Mina. Back when she was assigned to the sales department by Sister Yana, she had climbed her way up step by step, stepping on others along the way. Even though she was young at the time, with the help of her experienced brother, she stood out immediately upon entering society.

With looks, height, and education all above average, jealousy and isolation were inevitable. Human nature was just like that. Fortunately, during that difficult period, she had her brother by her side. But alas.

She sighed inwardly, then said, "Your turn."

Manager Mina’s long-calm emotions finally showed some fluctuation, though her "inner voices" remained unreadable.

Jake had his suspicions and immediately asked, "What about you? What do you think of Shigella?"

"Cold, boring." Mina didn’t even think before answering, her gaze fixed intently on Jake. "Let’s make it more exciting. This is so dull."

Jake was at a loss. Since they weren’t friends, how could he dare to speak so bluntly?

"How many times have you been in a relationship?"

"Huh?" The question was such a sudden shift that Jake was momentarily stunned, but he still answered earnestly. "Three times."

"How was it? What’s dating like?" As his superior, once she found a topic that interested her, she didn’t hold back with follow-up questions.

"I think it’s great." Jake replied without hesitation.

"So, do you have a girlfriend now?" Mina’s curiosity grew, and she leaned in closer.

Jake’s face flushed. The rich aroma of red wine mixed with Manager Mina’s perfume surrounded him. Her big, sparkling eyes were full of curiosity. Their breathing became so synchronized that they could hear each other. Jake gritted his teeth and leaned back slightly, unwilling to reveal everything.

"Hey, hey, wasn’t it supposed to be one question each?"

"Tch, boring. Fine, your turn then." At this moment, Mina truly resembled a little devil from hell—playful, teasing, and pouting in frustration as she leaned back in her chair after failing to get the answer she wanted.

Jake knew he couldn’t let this continue. He had to take the initiative to avoid being constantly cornered.

"Manager, asking so much... could it be you’ve never been in a relationship?"

"Of course I have."

"No."

Two conflicting answers reached Jake’s ears at the same time.

He had previously heard from Cabel that Manager Mina was already 33, yet she had never been in a relationship. Hah, it was unexpectedly amusing. But Jake didn’t dare laugh openly.

However, he had accidentally drawn out Manager Mina’s true "inner voices." Playing like this actually seemed quite fun.

"Did you ever take your partner home to meet your parents?" Mina seemed particularly interested in romantic relationships. She tossed aside the previous questions and threw out a new one.

"I... don’t have parents." Jake said softly.

Mina seemed to realize something. She suddenly remembered reviewing Jake’s resume, where the family section had been left blank. Either his parents were divorced and uninvolved, or they were no longer around.

She thought about comforting him.

But Jake’s next question came swiftly. "What’s your favorite color?"

Mina thought for a moment. "Black."

Just as he suspected.

...

The two gradually got into the rhythm, exchanging questions and answers.

"What’s your favorite food?"

"Tomato and egg stir-fry."

"Who do you dislike at the company?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Tabe."

"Is there someone you like?"

"No." [I don’t know, maybe.]

...

And so, the game of truth continued until the two finished the bottle of wine.

Jake noticed that every time Manager Mina lied, her true thoughts would surface. After asking several similar questions, the pattern held.

Whether lies or truths, both would appear simultaneously. In simple terms, as long as Jake wanted to, no woman could lie to his face.

The bottle emptied, but the two were still engrossed.

The saying that wine intoxicates the heart but not the person seemed to hold some truth.

Seeing the timing was about right, Jake quickly excused himself.

Though Mina hadn’t had her fill, she understood the situation and didn’t press him to stay, watching as Jake’s figure disappeared from the room.

"Ding ling ling..." A phone rang.

"Sister Min, dinner is ready. You can order whenever."

Mina stood up, her voluptuous curves on full display. She swayed her high-heeled right foot and murmured, "So tired~" before collapsing backward onto the luxurious bed.

"Bring another bottle of wine up." With that, she tossed her phone aside.

Back in his room, Jake felt as if he had escaped a cage, finally able to relax.

Manager Mina was like a cunning hunter, with Jake’s every move under her control. If not for his mind-reading ability, he would have been completely at her mercy long ago.

It was still early. Normally, Jake wouldn’t have splurged on a five-star hotel for business trips. With his previous company’s meager reimbursement allowance, even a two or three-star hotel would only cover a standard single room.

Though it was nowhere near as extravagant as Manager Mina’s suite, it was still far better than ordinary hotels.

After a relaxing bath, he enjoyed the hotel’s seafood buffet for dinner before returning to bed.

He took a few photos of the buffet and sent them to Mia, who said they should go to the South Sea for a vacation and have seafood together next time.

After a brief chat, Mia went back to binge-watching her Korean dramas. Recently, she had become obsessed with them, sometimes calling Jake in tears, which both amused and exasperated him.

Lying on the soft bed, Jake thought for a moment and sent different photos to his aunt. Soon, he received a reply—a thumbs-up emoji and a red rose.

Unlike Mia, his aunt’s emoji usage was as old-fashioned as that of someone in their sixties or seventies.

Still, at least she was no longer resistant to chatting with Jake.

After the September holiday, his aunt had resumed her teaching duties. In her free time, she gradually opened up more in conversations with Jake, sometimes even sharing motivational quotes with him.

It drove Jake crazy, but if his aunt asked, he would at least skim through them.

His aunt had spent half her life in Savannah. Though she had a wealthy older sister, her lifestyle remained frugal. Fortunately, her teaching salary was high, and with no children to support, she didn’t need to pinch pennies.

Chatting sweetly, Jake drifted off to sleep happily.
