Super Soldier in Campus-Chapter 740 - 745: Rebuke_1
Upon hearing the name Ye Lin, Lin Feng halted his steps. Turning his head curiously, he saw a middle-aged, chubby man standing before Ye Lin, pointing at her pretty, fair face and sternly berating her.
When the term "fallen woman" came out of the fat man’s mouth, Lin Feng’s expression changed instantly.
Just as Lin Feng could no longer contain his anger and was about to rush forward to teach the fat man a lesson, Ye Lin suddenly spoke. "Director Zou, I’ve realized my mistake... but I need to explain. When I went to the bar just now, I was indeed on a mission, not just there to drink!"
"You still dare to argue?" the middle-aged fat man said gloomily. "Going to the bar on a mission? You actually expect me to believe that? Besides, didn’t I already assign you a mission for tonight? I told you to watch this place and not take a single step away! Do my words just go in one ear and out the other?!"
Ye Lin, her face somewhat pale, nodded without speaking.
Just then, a tall, handsome, uniformed detective standing beside the fat man suddenly grabbed his sleeve and said mildly, "Let it go, Uncle. Since Captain Ye has already admitted her mistake, just spare her any more words."
So this damn fatty is his uncle; no wonder he’s so detestable!
The young policeman who held back the fat man was none other than Yang Cheng, whom Lin Feng had once taught a lesson in front of Ye Lin’s dormitory. He was also the deputy captain of Nanjiang District’s detective team! So he was also the nephew of this damn fatty... Deputy Director Zou. Looks like the nepotism is pretty serious here.
At this point, Lin Feng spotted Zhao Weipeng, who had recently gone to see Ye Lin, managing the crowd nearby. He took a couple of steps over to Zhao Weipeng’s side and gently patted his shoulder.
"Hey, Mr. Zhao..."
"Brother Feng, what are you doing here?" Zhao Weipeng turned his head and said with a smile. "Don’t tell me you couldn’t bear to part with our Team Ye and chased her here! Speaking of which, I really do admire you. How did you manage to win over our Captain Ye so quickly..."
"Let’s not talk about that for now..." Lin Feng shook his head, looking a bit embarrassed. He pointed at the fat man who was reprimanding Ye Lin and asked in a low voice, "What’s going on here?"
Zhao Weipeng glanced in the direction Lin Feng indicated and said with a rueful expression, "When I brought Captain Ye back earlier, Director Zou smelled alcohol on her. He then asked me where Captain Ye had come from. I accidentally let it slip, and that’s how I got Captain Ye into trouble..."
"That’s not what I meant..." Lin Feng shook his head. "This Fatty... why does he seem to hold such a big grudge against Ye Lin?"
"Brother Feng, you could tell?" Zhao Weipeng looked at Lin Feng, surprised.
"Isn’t it obvious?" Lin Feng said in a low voice. "Hurry up and spill it..."
"AHEM AHEM... It’s like this!" Zhao Weipeng nodded, lowering his voice again as he explained to Lin Feng, "Deputy Captain Yang is Director Zou’s nephew. Before Team Ye arrived, Director Zou originally intended to promote Yang Cheng. But who knew that Captain Ye would suddenly be parachuted in by the higher-ups? So, Yang Cheng had no choice but to remain a deputy captain for another two years. Since then, Director Zou has always disliked Team Ye... Later, when Director Zou found out Yang Cheng liked Team Ye, he wanted to act as a matchmaker for him. He even personally went to Team Ye’s office to discuss it, but it seems Team Ye rejected him... So, now Director Zou has quite a big problem with Team Ye!"
"I’d say it’s more than just ’a bit’ of a problem..." Lin Feng shook his head. Now that he understood the ins and outs of the whole affair, the anger in his heart swelled even more.
Meanwhile, that Fatty Zou seemed quite receptive to Yang Cheng’s words.
"Yang Cheng, don’t blame your uncle for being harsh. I just lost control for a moment. In any case, Captain Ye is, after all, a rare talent..." Fatty Zou patted Yang Cheng’s shoulder lightly, a smug smile on his face, and slowly walked away.
Only when Director Zou was more than ten meters away did Yang Cheng, with an obsequious smile, say to Ye Lin, "Team Ye, I’m really sorry. My uncle doesn’t have the best temper, but he’s generally a decent person... please don’t take offense..."
Ye Lin shot Yang Cheng a cold glance without speaking. With her sharp discernment, how could she fail to see that Director Zou and Yang Cheng were just playing good cop, bad cop? They were merely trying to get on her good side.
"Someone with a bad temper can hardly be called a good person..." Just as Yang Cheng thought he had managed to engage Ye Lin in conversation, Lin Feng suddenly appeared. He looked at Ye Lin and said with a smile, "Captain Ye’s temper, on the other hand, is excellent. She’s definitely a good person!"
Lin Feng’s first sentence was refuting Yang Cheng, while the second was a deliberate tease aimed at Ye Lin. Pretty much everyone who knew Ye Lin was aware that Captain Ye had a notoriously bad temper. So, when Lin Feng deliberately said her temper was good, he obviously wasn’t being sincere.
"What are you doing here?" Ye Lin rolled her eyes. She couldn’t be bothered with what Lin Feng had said, but his appearance here would probably only further confirm the accusations of her drinking at the bar and, on top of that, looking for a fling.
"Lin Feng..." Yang Cheng’s voice was low and full of hatred as he saw Lin Feng appear, his teeth clenched. "What are you doing here?!"
Yang Cheng certainly had a vivid memory of Lin Feng. That kick Lin Feng had delivered last time had left him bedridden for over a week. After he had finally recovered, he found his skills weren’t what they used to be. Every time he engaged in strenuous activity, his body would ache with a faint, lingering pain!
As the saying goes, "When enemies meet, their eyes burn with animosity." Seeing Lin Feng, Yang Cheng naturally felt an uncontrollable urge to draw his gun... Fortunately, he was still clear-headed enough to control his emotions. His hand, halfway to his holster, relaxed.
"TSK TSK... I actually thought you’d dare to draw your gun!" Yang Cheng’s subtle movement hadn’t escaped Lin Feng’s notice. He smiled and said to Yang Cheng, "Deputy Captain Yang, is that all the courage you have? Truly disappointing!"
"Are you looking for trouble?" With a gun at his hip this time, Yang Cheng wasn’t as afraid of Lin Feng. Hearing Lin Feng’s provocation, he retorted angrily.
"Not at all... I just came to see my wife..." Lin Feng chuckled, pointing at Ye Lin. "Even though she’s on duty, it’s not against regulations for me to come see her, is it?"
"Your wife?!" Yang Cheng glanced at Ye Lin, whom Lin Feng had indicated, his expression turning extremely grim. He didn’t know if Lin Feng and Ye Lin’s relationship had truly reached the point where they could address each other as husband and wife. But when Yang Cheng saw that Ye Lin didn’t refute Lin Feng’s claim, his heart plummeted!
"What, is that not allowed? Or is there some rule saying female police officers can’t get married?" Lin Feng smirked and added.
"Will you just shut it for a moment..." Ye Lin finally couldn’t hold back any longer and snapped at Lin Feng. Just moments ago, when Lin Feng had called her his wife, even though she knew he was spouting nonsense, her heart had actually fluttered, and she’d almost been touched. But hearing him continue with his ridiculous claims, she finally had to stop him.
