Chapter 237 - Parallel World III

Dave blinked, then chuckled. "Perry Parker? No way."

He turned to look at her directly. "In my world, Spider-Man is still a kid. Smart, awkward, hasn't even gotten his spider powers yet. But you—" he gestured lightly, "you look like you've already been through some stuff."

Perry tilted her head, saying nothing, though her eyes narrowed behind the mask.

Furiosa folded her arms. "She doesn't talk much. Doesn't trust easily. Especially not dimensional drifters who show up unannounced."

Dave smirked, not offended in the slightest. "Can't blame her. I'd be cautious too if some 'other me' popped into my world dressed like a badass and talking about Darkhold magic."

Dave leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping into something more serious. "Still... Dimensional Drifters, you say. Like I'm not the first?"

Furiosa's eyes narrowed just a bit. "You're not."

She tapped on her tablet, bringing up a hologram of various figures—each wearing some variation of a spider suit.

"There were others. Mostly Spider-Men... or Spider-Women. They came from different universes. It was chaos for a while. We called it The Web of Madness."

Dave raised a brow. "Catchy. Sounds like a bad trip through the multiverse."

"More like a war," Furiosa said grimly. "Some of them were hunted, others hunted. Each one was dragged here through strange magic—sometimes pulled in by force."

She gave a side glance toward Perry Parker, who now stood by the wall, arms folded, still watching Dave with sharp silence.

"We helped our Spider-Woman survive that madness. She stayed after the others returned to their own worlds. Now she works with us."

Dave nodded slowly, eyes lingering on Perry with new understanding. "So she's a veteran."

Furiosa gave a firm nod. "One of the best. And someone who knows what it means to lose her entire reality."

Dave leaned back again, thoughtful. "Damn... this world just keeps getting more interesting."

Perry didn't say anything. But she didn't leave the room either.

"Guess I'll have to stick around long enough to meet the rest of the team," he added, a sly grin tugging at the corner of his lips.

Furiosa raised a brow. "That depends. You planning to help... or cause more multiversal trouble?"

Dave chuckled. "Let's just say... I'm flexible."

"Though I'm mostly here to roam," Dave said, glancing at his watch, "I've got about 40 hours left... give or take."

"You say that like you're on a timer," Furiosa replied, eyeing him carefully. "Why?"

He looked at her, expression calm but serious. "If I remain in this body beyond 48 hours... the original one—the version of me from this world—will die. Painfully."

Furiosa stared at him, her expression unreadable. "The original Dave... is he powerful? A fighter?"

Dave gave a short, dry chuckle. "No. He's just a regular guy. Works at some local tech store. But after I leave, he'll retain a few of my abilities."

"And what kind of abilities are we talking about?" she asked, stepping closer, curious now. freēnovelkiss.com

Dave's eyes gleamed. "In my real body... I can blast entire armies into dust with a flick of my fingers. If he inherits even 1% of what I'm capable of... he'll be well above average in this world."

Furiosa tilted her head slightly. "So you're saying... you're not him. You're beyond that level."

"I'm not him," Dave said with a quiet finality, his tone cold and matter-of-fact. "I'm something else entirely."

Furiosa didn't speak for a moment, just looked at him—like she was trying to decide whether to fear him or recruit him.

Perry Parker leaned against the wall silently, her mask half-lowered, her sharp eyes scanning Dave like a predator sizing up an unknown variable. Finally, she spoke, voice calm but edged.

"If you're so powerful... why bother coming here at all? Slumming it in a weaker world just for fun?"

Dave glanced at her, smirking faintly. "Curiosity, mostly. But also... opportunities. Every world is different. Some have things even mine doesn't."

Furiosa crossed her arms. "Like what?"

"Chaos," Dave replied smoothly. "Loose ends. Unclaimed power. Knowledge buried under history no one's bothered to understand. And I like collecting those... pieces."

Perry narrowed her eyes. "Sounds like villain talk."

Dave chuckled. "Sounds like someone who's seen too many black-and-white comic books. I'm not a villain, Perry. I just don't play by anyone's rules but my own."

Perry didn't look convinced, but Furiosa raised a hand to stop her from replying.

"Let him speak."

Dave nodded in appreciation. "Thank you. Now, I have a request. Since I won't be here long, I want access to any interdimensional records you have. Anything on anomalies, rifts, crossovers... whatever you've gathered during the Web of Madness incident."

"And why would we just hand that over to you?" Perry asked, arms folding.

"Because," Dave said, taking a step forward, his aura pressing down just slightly—an invisible weight of presence. "I'm not asking. I'm offering to help stabilize a multiverse problem you're clearly not done with. You think Spider-Men were the only ones slipping through? You're wrong. There are others coming."

Furiosa's expression darkened. "You've seen it?"

Dave's eyes gleamed. "I've lived it."

There was a tense pause, the silence broken only by the hum of tech and distant footsteps echoing down the helicarrier halls.

"...Very well," Furiosa finally said. "You'll get supervised access to the archives. But if you try anything—"

"You can't stop me," Dave finished, eyes still gleaming—but his tone carried no malice, only truth. "But I'm not your enemy."

Perry muttered under her breath, "Not yet..."

"Not even planning to become one," Dave said, hearing her mutter. He grinned. "So just relax, love."

"Don't talk casually to me," Perry snapped and left the room.

Dave blinked, then smirked. "Hmm, is this world's Dave not handsome enough or what?" he said, showing off his face.

Furiosa gave him a deadpan look.

Furiosa sighed and crossed her arms. "You're really enjoying this, huh?"

Dave shrugged with a smug grin. "Well, I am technically on vacation. Just with a limited-time super-powered body possession twist."

She rolled her eyes. "You dimensional types always have a flair for drama."

Before he could respond, the doors slid open again, and Perry returned, tossing a datapad onto the table in front of him.
