Superhumans of the Dome City-Chapter 1391 - 9: Master Jing_3
"It’s no big deal. After all, you are a Silent Phase Mage. If I were working in the Yiji Hall, I wouldn’t dare send you on a field assignment." Liu Zhongwu laughed, "Have you ever heard of the Hidden Gods of Zero Island?"
"I know a little, know a little."
"Master Jing has many encounters with Hidden Gods and is skilled at crafting machinery, with a cautious and conservative nature. Generally, they pose no threat unless unexpected events occur. Later, we’ll make our preparations and follow procedures."
The little boy played in the arcade for another half hour before leaving. Situ Yi took out a paper doll, gave it a shake, and rendered everyone invisible, then followed quietly. This time he lagged behind, clearly not planning to volunteer. Gongsun Ce seized the chance to learn more and said, "Liu guessed correctly; the teacher is most worried about my impulsiveness causing trouble. Therefore, I’ve spent most of my time in quiet cultivation, rather unclear on how to handle matters generally dealt with in a Grotto Heaven."
"Such matters are generally managed by the Yiji Hall, where the travelers are taken for ’evaluation.’ If the ’evaluation’ deems them harmless, a place is found for them to settle down peacefully. If there are anomalies... you know what happens." Liu Zhongwu was silent for a moment, then added, "This child should be discovered by the Yiji Hall in a few days. Some of the older staff have too much of a bureaucratic air about them, which easily frightens the children. His Highness has asked us to handle this subtly to prevent scaring the child."
"Understood, take the child to the Yiji Hall for an examination." Gongsun Ce pushed up his glasses. "I’m not letting you handle such a cushy task for the Crown Prince; I’ll do it! "
"Are you sure you can handle it? I’m a bit intimidated by someone whose first act upon reporting is a fight." Liu Zhongwu glanced sideways.
Gongsun Ce joked, "How about a divination to reassure you?"
Everyone in the inner circle knew Liu Zhongwu loved divination. Every morning, the first thing he did was to predict his fortune for the day. Hearing this, Liu Zhongwu didn’t object, pulling out several talisman papers to set up a simple array and calculating with his fingers. He mused, "The divination says you’ll have a romantic encounter today..."
Chi Zijing laughed loudly at this, "Liu, how does your career fortune involve pink?"
Liu Zhongwu crumpled the talisman papers into a ball, sighing, "Alas! This person’s skills far surpass mine. I can’t calculate it accurately."
Gongsun Ce patted his shoulder, grinning smugly, "Watch and learn, folks. This is what being a professional means!"
Joking apart, Liu Zhongwu did respect the newcomer’s skills and had no objections. The four of them followed the child, reaching an old residential building in an alley within minutes. The bowl-cut child swiftly climbed to the fourth floor and unlocked the door with his key. Gongsun Ce followed him in with telekinesis, seeing that the household decorations were of an ordinary family. A "man" in a blue work uniform sat on the sofa, listening to the child’s stories of the day, including how useful the "tokens" were.
The "man’s" physique was no different from an average person, but where his clothes didn’t cover, there was the sleek white metal surface. His face resembled the serene images of immortals in murals—though benevolent, it carried the unique chill of an artificial being.
The boy’s "father" seemed to be a robot.
Gongsun Ce, worried about causing his classmates suspicion, didn’t investigate further just yet. Seeing Liu Zhongwu setting up an array with talisman papers around the building, he headed towards it alone. The three others curiously craned their necks, eager to see how the new student would solve the problem. Gongsun Ce casually snapped his fingers, and his attire changed to that of a young guy in a black public service uniform with a soft hat, carrying a soft cloth bag. He walked with his chin slightly raised, taking care not to touch the dirty staircase handrails, embodying perfectly the manner of a newly employed civil servant.
"Quite an act," Liu Zhongwu nudged Situ Yi with his elbow. "Look at him, and then look at yourself!"
Situ Yi didn’t reply, only continued to chuckle, while Chi Zijing watched the newcomer through the window, wondering what he would say.
Gongsun Ce went straight up to the fourth floor, knocking on the door with three rapless knocks, calling out lethargically, "401 Resident. Is 401 Resident home?"
The iron door opened slightly, and the little boy looked at him cautiously, "I am. May I ask who you are?"
Gongsun Ce took out an ID from his bag, displaying it, "I’m from the street office. Today is the last day for Qionghua Road’s winter subsidy, one bottle of oil, one bag of rice, and a supermarket voucher worth 30 yuan. If you don’t claim it tonight, it’ll be gone. Please tell your parents."
The little boy was about to close the door, but upon hearing there was a voucher, he opened the door wider, "Uncle, my parents are on business trips, and there’s no one else at home."
"I’m only 20, so don’t call me uncle," Gongsun Ce scratched his head, "Well, I can’t just bring it to you directly—my colleagues would suspect me of taking it... How about this, come with me to the street office across the street. I’ll report to my supervisor and help you bring it back."
The little boy took another careful look at his ID, then walked out from the door, "Thank you, brother!"
"No need to thank me; it’s my job."
Gongsun Ce didn’t disturb the person inside, and led the child downstairs. However, just as the iron door was about to close, an icy iron hand suddenly reached out from behind the door, wedging it open.
The iron door slowly pushed open, and Master Jing, silent until then, stood at the door. It stared directly into Gongsun Ce’s eyes, its eyes containing a white glow.
"Ding Sisi No. 15 Terminal detected disorder factor, entering combat mode, immediately eliminate."
The emotionless mechanical voice echoed in the stairwell. Master Jing’s wrists flipped back to reveal muzzles, and two missiles launched instantaneously, aiming at Gongsun Ce’s head from close range!
