Chapter 681: Alliance [1]

"You finally came," Emerald smirked. "So you’re the one who’s been wiping out all the floors?"

Nox locked eyes with the demoness. She was now wearing a flowing black dress, but even then, it did nothing to cover up her hot, seductive body.

Immediately, Nox took a fighting stance. "So, are you going to hand over my pet back to me, or will I have to use force?"

A small smile appeared on Emerald’s face. "Well, so that’s how the humans greet," she noted, then gestured to a table. "Well, I thought we could talk over this with a meal."

Nox’s expression changed when he saw the luxurious food that seemed as if it had been meticulously planned for two people.

However, despite the food’s inviting look, he wasn’t moved in the slightest. It was just pure stupidity to dine in the house of a literal demon.

"I’m sorry, I have to decline your offer."

"Oh." A look of sadness briefly crossed Emerald’s face. She pouted, looking at Nox with a frown. "I took several minutes to set that up, you know?"

"Well, I never sent you," he replied as he slowly activated his skills, ready for a fight.

"Oh, why so eager for a fight?" Emerald asked, walking over to the table and pouring herself some wine, her movements fluid and graceful.

’Isn’t she scared... did she just turn her back on me?’ Nox narrowed his eyes, watching Emerald gulp down the red wine.

His gaze then snapped to the side, where Blazy was locked up. Fortunately, all his feathers were still intact.

Nox had thought the demoness would try to torture him, but it seemed she hadn’t done anything... if anything, she tried to feed him, but because of Blazy’s cautiousness, he didn’t even take a bite from the food.

[Master, save me!] Blazy called out through the mental link. [This woman—she’s dangerous!]

’Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of here.’ he replied. ’Just hold on.’

Right at that moment, Emerald turned around, holding Nox’s gaze. "You’re strong for your age. Grenth was powerful, maybe just below me in terms of strength, and you easily overwhelmed him... that’s impressive."

Nox didn’t respond, his mind filled with several thoughts as to why the demon lord had yet to make a move on him.

Wasn’t Grenth someone close to her? And he had killed that person and slaughtered her brethren below.

’Don’t demons really care about each other?’

"But I must ask," she suddenly said. "Why have you chosen to attack us?"

Hearing this, an irritated look crossed Nox’s features. "Are you seriously asking me this?" he glared at her, his tone sounding like that of a beast. "Or are you just acting ignorant?"

"Well, I do know the Demon Emperor and some of his minions planned on conquering the human realm, but as you can see, our floor didn’t participate in this so-called war," she said.

Nox narrowed his eyes. "So you’re saying you’re innocent?"

Emerald tilted her head, swirling the wine in her goblet. "More like... uninvolved. There’s a difference."

Blazy squawked in protest from inside the cage, but a sharp glance from Emerald silenced him.

Nox didn’t lower his guard. "And yet you captured my pet."

"He was spying," she said nonchalantly. "Or do you think flying around undetected near a demon lady’s quarters is something I’d just overlook?"

"So you locked him in a cage?"

"I fed him," she said with a flick of her finger. "Offered fire crystals, grilled salamander tails, and even a pillow."

Blazy immediately retorted through the link. [I didn’t eat any of it!]

’That’s good,’ Nox thought. ’Never eat what a demon offers.’ ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Emerald took a small bite from a glowing red fruit. "You’re not like the others, human. You’re composed, analytical. Handsome, too. A shame you chose violence."

"I didn’t choose anything," Nox snapped. "Your kind invaded. You burned cities. You kidnapped. You killed. I’m just cleaning up the mess."

Emerald raised a brow. "I didn’t kill anyone."

"You didn’t stop them either."

That made her pause, then she said, "Going against the Demon Emperor is no different from going against a giant as an ant. And if I were you, I’d focus only on closing the portals and leave this realm—now that the old monster is not awake yet."

"Wait." Nox frowned. "Why are you even telling me all this?"

"I kinda have quite the history with the demons—just like you." She smiled softly, but Nox noticed that the smile didn’t reach her eyes.

"Okay, let me tell you a short story," she said.

---

"Okay, let me tell you a short story," Emerald said, her voice calm, but there was a strange coldness behind it. She gently placed the wine glass back on the table and leaned her hip against it.

Nox didn’t move, still in his stance, watching her every gesture.

"You see," she began, "succubi in the demon realm are viewed as nothing more than tools. Pretty faces. Bodies meant for breeding, entertaining, and obeying."

She clenched her fingers around the goblet, cracking the glass slightly. "We’re treated like disposable playthings by the higher demons. Used. Traded. Tossed aside. I was born in that filth."

"But I... I clawed my way up," Emerald said, her voice hardening. "I challenged every fool that tried to dominate me. Ripped off their horns, spilled their guts on the arena floor. I fought my way to the top—until I became the ruler of this entire floor."

She spread her arms wide mockingly, as if presenting a grand reward. "This lovely little corner of hell? I won it with blood. With pain. And yet..."

Her hand curled into a tight fist.

"...and yet, the Demon Emperor still didn’t think I was capable. He appointed an Overseer to ’supervise’ me. Said a woman like me couldn’t be trusted with power alone." Her lip curled with hatred. "That bastard Grenth was that Overseer."

Nox’s eyes slightly widened as he realized the lack of grief over Grenth’s death.

"You heard me," she continued. "Grenth wasn’t my ally. He was my leash. I tolerated him because I had no choice. But you... you did me a favor by killing him."

Nox frowned. "Where are you going with all this?"

The smile slowly returned to Emerald’s face, and she said, "It’s rather simple."
