Chapter 410: The Ignis (3)

Reidar looked down from the back of the giant Vorathid Sky-Hunter, watching the Elite Feral Ignis pace in the crater below, its magma eyes locked on him.

A direct fight wouldn’t work because the Ignis had higher stats, higher resistances, and a health pool that would take hours to chip down with standard spells, which meant Reidar needed to change the equation.

<Alright. Time for the big guns.>

He opened his skill interface. He didn’t need a stronger spell; he needed an army. And thanks to his trait and perks, he could give his army the ability to build itself.

Reidar activated his summoning skill.

[Skill Activated: Summon Archon Rift-Lords]

[Skill Activated: Summon Vorathid Sky-Hunters]

The sky cracked. Eighty portals opened, spilling elemental energy into the air. The Archons and the Sky-Hunters emerged.

[Perk: Boundless Legion—Count Doubled]

[Perk: Legion Commander – +10% Added]

[Mana: 144,596 → 134,596]

The cost was steep, but the Mana Siphon perk was already working. He could feel the trickle of mana flowing back through his connection to the summons.

"Get on the Sky-Hunters," Reidar ordered through the Overmind Consciousness skill.

The Archons mounted the Sky-Hunters, each one awkwardly clambering onto the back of an oversized insect like they were trying to parallel park for the first time. The sight was absurd since there were magical humanoids perched on giant bugs like the world’s worst carnival ride, but Reidar knew this was the only way for him to keep them safe.

<Now for the trick.>

He also activated his trait, [Skill Sharing].

[Skill Shared: Summon Archon Rift-Lords]

[Skill Shared: Summon Vorathid Sky-Hunters]

The knowledge flowed out of him and into his summons. The Archons couldn’t use his perks; they didn’t have Boundless Legion or Legion Commander, but they could still summon eighty Archons each.

The sky was still fractured. Each Archon opened its own rifts. Eighty became six thousand four hundred.

Archon Rift-Lords poured out of the rifts in a flood. Fire Archons, Ice Archons, Stone Archons, Lightning Archons, Wind Archons, Water Archons, Shadow Archons, and Light Archons—every element filled the sky in a waterfall of colors.

The buzzing of the insects became a deafening drone as the new wave of Rift-Lords summoned their own mounts.

Then the second wave cast the spells.

The air pressure plummeted. The sunlight was blocked out. A cloud of creatures, dense enough to block the wind, filled the sky above the meadow.

Reidar checked the count.

[Active Summons: 14,520]

[Battalion Coordination Active]

[Stats Increased by +40%]

[Mana Siphon Active – Regeneration Increased]

[Master’s Aegis Active – Damage Resistance: 56%]

Below, the Elite Feral Ignis watched the sky fill with enemies.

[Skill Activated: Presence of the Sovereign]

A gold and black aura exploded from Reidar, expanding to cover a five-kilometer radius.

Below, the Elite Feral Ignis buckled. The skill’s debuff slammed into it, reducing all its stats by 60%. The ground around its feet cracked as the metaphysical gravity increased.

At the same time, the 14,000 summons above flashed with golden light, as their attributes increased by 150%.

But that didn’t deter the Ignis. Despite their ascending to the sky, the summons were still too close to the ground.

The Ignis crossed the distance to the nearest flying summons and attacked.

The monster grabbed a Sky-Hunter out of the air and crushed it in its fist, spraying molten blood across the sky before throwing the corpse at another group and taking out two more.

"Higher!"

The swarm obeyed. Thousands of Sky-Hunters climbed into the sky, carrying their Archon passengers with them.

The Elite Ignis tried to follow. It launched itself upward, blade-arms reaching, and caught one unlucky Sky-Hunter by the leg before tearing the insect apart. But it couldn’t fly. Gravity pulled it back down, and the creature landed with a crash that shook the ground.

"Attack," Reidar said. "Fire at will."

Fourteen thousand Archon Rift-Lords raised their hands, and the same number of spells lit the sky up.

Fire Archons launched Inferno Blasts, while Ice Archons fired Frost Lances and Lightning Archons called down Thunder Strikes. Water Archons sent Tidal Surges as Stone Archons hurled Boulder Crush attacks, and Wind Archons created Cyclones.

[Elemental Supremacy Active]

Groups of three or more Archons of the same element focused their attacks on the same spot. The 35% damage bonus triggered across thousands of simultaneous strikes.

[Rift Resonance Active]

Wind and Stone Archons combined their powers.

[Combo Skill: Sandstorm Shredder]

A tornado of razor-sharp stones tore into the Ignis’s rocky hide, stripping away layers of armor. Light and Shadow Archons merged their beams.

[Combo Skill: Twilight Erasure]

Beams of light twisted around bolts of void energy. The combined attack bypassed physical defenses and ate directly at the creature’s body.

The Elite Ignis screamed. but the sound was gone soon after since the noise from the spells was too strong.

The Elite Feral Ignis vanished under the bombardment. The ground where it stood liquefied, turning into a crater of glass and magma.

Though Reidar knew, despite everything, his creatures could not do much in terms of damage. But it rose. Slowly. Incrementally. Thousands of attacks were chipping away at a mountain, after all, but they were still chipping.

A roar cut through the noise of the spells. A massive rock, the size of a minivan, flew out of the smoke. It smashed into a cluster of Sky-Hunters, obliterating many of them.

<I would have been naïve to think it would not respond.>

The red notifications started pinging.

The Ignis emerged from the cluster of ash and dirt the bombardment was creating and grabbed a tree—a full-grown oak, roots and all—ripping it out of the ground and hurling it at the sky. The tree spun end over end, crashing into a cluster of Sky-Hunters and killing twelve summons in a single throw.

The monster grabbed another tree. And another. It tore through the nearby forest, creating a pile of ammunition. Then it threw them in rapid succession.

Each tree killed a dozen summons, and the swarm was dense enough that the monster couldn’t miss, which meant Reidar watched as hundreds of his creatures died in minutes.

"Shit! Spread out!" Reidar said. "Don’t bunch up! Keep firing!"

The swarm shifted, opening gaps to reduce the effectiveness of the Ignis’s projectiles, but the sheer number of units meant the sky was still a target-rich environment.

Reidar checked his mana reserves, noting that the Siphon was doing its job, and the regeneration was keeping pace with the upkeep costs, which meant he could maintain this army indefinitely.
