Chapter 286: Ice Cream

"What are we doing here?" Rain asked curiously as she stepped out of the car. Instead of heading back to the estate, Alexander had brought her to the town’s festival. She hadn’t realized it could be so lively at this time of night.

"There’s a three-day festival that started yesterday," Alexander explained, taking her hand.

Around them, some people were dressed in traditional outfits unique to the town, adding vibrant colors to the lively atmosphere.

Music filled the air, with bands playing cheerful tunes while others danced with infectious energy. The streets buzzed with excitement as they celebrated the Mystveil Flower Festival, a tradition clearly cherished by the locals.

"Dad used to bring William and me here to play games and try the street food. I thought it’d be nice to experience it together. It’s been ages since I last walked these streets like this."

The bustling festival streets captivated Rain as they strolled past stalls offering a variety of foods. They stopped at a barbecue stall and sat on a bench, savoring the grilled meat on sticks as the lively festival continued around them.

"How was your day? I noticed you were a bit quiet during the ride," Alexander remarked, his tone gentle but curious.

Rain hesitated briefly before deciding to tell him about Brandon’s call. As she explained, Alexander listened intently, his expression thoughtful.

"Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to find that mole," Alexander reassured her, his voice steady.

Her brow furrowed. "You’re aware of and updated about this case?"

He turned to her with a teasing grin and pinched her nose. "Of course! I stay updated on everything that involves you. I’m personally monitoring and handling this obsessive admirer of yours," he grunted, his tone darkening.

Rain noticed how his expression shifted, the warmth in his eyes replaced by a cold determination.

"I told you, whoever was behind Dina will pay," he added, his jaw clenching tightly.

Rain chose not to comment further, sensing Alexander’s mood had darkened. Instead, she quickly shifted the topic. "Ivan called me earlier. He told me Kelly is now conscious and stable. He said the treatment seems to be working, it’s surprisingly shrinking the tumor and slowing its growth."

"That’s great news!" Alexander’s face lit up with relief. "It’ll give Dad more time."

"It is good news," Rain agreed, though her tone remained cautious. "But Ivan isn’t too confident. Kelly nearly lost her life... she fell into a coma for days. Ivan’s worried about the risk of her not waking up if it happens again. He said it all depends on how her body continues to respond."

"That’s understandable. Let’s wait and see. Ivan’s the expert," Alexander said thoughtfully.

"By the way, Uncle Ben called earlier. Aunt Vernice told Dad she found the identity of the ’Miracle Doctor’ who’s an exceptional brain surgeon. They sent me his file, and I’ve instructed my men to locate him."

"Wait, why do you need to find him? Is he in hiding?" Rain asked curiously.

"Yes," Alexander confirmed with a nod. "He’s been off the radar for five years now. No one knows where he is, though many have tried to contact him. He was very famous back then, but he erased every trace of himself after a tragedy... an accident that took his wife and son."

Rain’s brows furrowed as she listened.

"It happened while he was performing a critical operation," Alexander continued. "From the reports, it seems he blamed himself for not being there when it happened. After that, he disappeared completely."

Rain nodded, her interest piqued. Alexander handed her his phone, displaying the doctor’s profile. As she scrolled through the details, she couldn’t help but be impressed by his remarkable record... no wonder he was called the Miracle Doctor.

"All of his patients survived and fully recovered," Alexander commented as she read through the reports. "Every single one is still alive to this day."

"Aunt Vernice is really determined to find the best doctor for Father," Rain said thoughtfully. "Who would’ve thought he’s from our country?"

She reflected for a moment. Only Aunt Vernice knew about her father-in-law’s condition within his circle of friends. It had come to light by accident when he’d experienced a symptom during lunch with her.

"I just hope we can find him," Alexander said with a hint of hope in his voice. Every doctor they had consulted worldwide had been less than confident about the operation. They all gave the same verdict, a fifty-fifty chance of success.

"We’ll definitely find him," Rain said, her voice steady with encouragement. A brief silence passed between them before Rain stood up, taking Alexander’s hand and pulling him along to continue their walk through the lively festival streets.

"How old were you the last time you came to this festival?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

"Fifteen," he replied with a small smile.

"That long?" she exclaimed, wide-eyed, making Alexander laugh.

"There have been quite a few improvements since then," he remarked, leading her toward an ice cream stall.

Rain chuckled as the vendor teased her, moving the ice cream cone just out of her reach every time she tried to grab it.

"What the-!" she exclaimed in surprise when Alexander effortlessly stopped the vendor’s playful antics and took the cone for her.

"Don’t you want some?" Rain asked playfully, hugging Alexander’s arm as she pulled him to sit on a nearby bench.

Her expression shifted as her sharp eyes caught sight of a familiar figure approaching. That person’s dark, contorted expression was hard to miss as they stared directly at her and Alexander.

Smiling mischievously, Rain turned her attention back to Alexander. With a playful glint in her eyes, she purposely smeared some ice cream on her lips and hummed, "How about just a taste from my lips?"

Alexander chuckled softly but didn’t hesitate. Leaning in, he licked the ice cream from her lips, his voice low as he teased, "This isn’t enough. I want more." Before she could respond, he sealed her lips with his, deepening the kiss.
