Surrender To Us, Our Luna (One Luna, Four Alphas)-Chapter 546-I Should Suffer Alone
Yorick:
it all happened quickly. Then I was standing right in front of Clementine, facing her like a culprit.
She held a knife to my throat, and I wished she would slit it, until Mariana came into view. A desire to live sparked through me.
Yet I did not beg Clementine to spare me. I wanted her to make the decision herself.
If she wanted to kill me, I would have embraced it happily because I deserved it. But Clementine lowered her hands when Mariana started to defend me.
That kind of love made me feel special. But I was already too scarred to understand anything at that moment.
After I gave my family a burial, we went to stay in the mansion, the big dark mansion that was going to be our safe place for a while. Everyone had left for their rooms except Fauna and Haiden, who were sitting on the couch with me and Mariana.
"Yorick, please don’t be sad," Fauna said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I looked down and noticed I was holding Mariana’s hand on the table. She gave my hand a squeeze to show me that she was with me through thick and thin.
"She is right, dude. I can already tell that Clementine understands that whatever you did was beyond you," Haiden told me, gesturing with his hands and blinking softly to show me he was with me too.
"Besides, I’m really happy you’re with my sister," Fauna added in her cheery tone.
The last few weeks seemed odd, and I had been out of the loop. I did not even know that my friends had found mates.
Hearing that they had gone through rejection with Clementine was honestly surprising, considering I thought I would be the only unlucky one. But when I saw them with their mates, I thought maybe that was what happiness was.
It was wrong of me to assume they would live their lives in desperation when I had found love so quickly after rejection. Being with Mariana was a different kind of feeling, something I had never felt before.
She was strong and compassionate, and she stood by me through thick and thin, even in just two days. Just two days, and I was head over heels in love with her.
Probably because I had known her for a while, and this was practically not our first meeting. I had seen her before, and I had always thought she was extremely sexy and beautiful, minus the attitude.
That was what compelled me to never look at her or the others the same way.
"And I heard you got accepted by Haiden. He’s a good guy," I said.
As soon as I said that, I noticed Fauna’s smile disappear. She was sitting right beside Haiden, who was watching her face, as if trying to see how she would react to his mention.
I could tell it did not look good. She was still hesitant.
"I hope everything is fine between you two," I added.
As soon as I said that, Haiden gave me a pout, the kind someone gives when asking for help.
"It is just that we didn’t marry out of love. I mean, one of us only did," Fauna said, letting out a little chuckle that sounded like a taunt.
My eyes moved to Mariana as an awkward silence lingered.
Before Haiden could say something on his behalf, Fauna continued.
"He came to reject me, but then he felt so bad for me that he eventually accepted me," she went on.
As she finished, Haiden turned to her in his seat.
"What makes you think I hated you?" he asked her strictly.
"Because you said it with your own fucking mouth," Fauna shot back, no longer sounding like the cheerful bird-like woman I had known my entire life.
I liked this new change in her. For her to look Haiden in the eye and call him out. That was amazing.
Haiden then looked at me and back at Fauna before glancing at me again.
"Tell her how I used to bully and say hurtful things to Clementine too. That is how my brain works. I try to make myself hate someone. So I bully them so that they hate me. And they do something that will make me eventually hate them," Haiden explained.
He started to give his stupid excuses, but to be honest, I believed him. He had the capability of an insecure bully.
"Okay, you know what? You two can talk it out alone," Mariana finally said, eyeing her sister so it would not escalate.
"Yeah, let’s go. Let’s speak alone," Haiden agreed, holding her hand and leading her away.
It did not seem like she tried to resist or pull away from his grasp.
Once they were gone, I turned to Mariana and stretched my hand out, waiting for her. She smiled and placed her hand in mine.
"Why did you lie to them?" Mariana suddenly asked, making me take a deep breath.
"Why did you say that in order for them to detach from the north for some time, they have to leave the north and pour some liquid around the borders?" she continued, mentioning the stupid lie I had come up with. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Because I want them to leave the north. It’s just that simple," I admitted.
"I don’t think they should be here. They deserve to be on the mainland and fix everything there. After what they have all been through because of my family."
I paused when Mariana shook her head.
"Your family played a part, just like the others. The only difference is your family had more power to ruin everyone. That is it. None of us, none of our families, are saints," she said.
As she finished, I took a deep breath and kissed the back of her hand.
"I want you to be honest with them in the morning and let them know it is a lie. Let them decide for themselves what they want to do, okay?" she urged.
As she asked me to tell the truth, I nodded.
She was so wise. I was shocked this was the same Mariana I had known for a few years, a spoiled brat and pampered.
