Chapter 165: Being Human

"What?" Alexandra stood up and held Iorhael’s hand. " Tell me!"

She wanted to know.

"You recognized what problem your husband has, and yet, you couldn’t recognize your problem?" Iorhael was surprised. "At times, I wonder if the worry your father has for your safety is justified. I always wanted to believe you are perfect and-"

"I am not perfect, Iorhael. You should know that by now. I am not very smart either. I just... Just tell me how I can fix myself," she asked.

"First of all, Arimelda, you have lost a big chunk of your memories."

"Yes, that is apparent. I sealed it, but now I cannot recover it."

"That’s because you have downgraded yourself to a human. Now I understand why your father was mad with you." Iorhael said, rubbing his forehead.

"What does that mean? I am now human?" she asked. "That’s... possible. But how can I use the divine flame if I am human?"

Iorhael looked at her for a good long time.

"What?" Alexandra lost patience. He hasn’t given her any answers and all he does is just stare at her. She wants to know, right now!

"You are not even a least bit worried knowing that you are a human? Do you know what that means, Arimelda? You no longer can live in the heavens, you no longer can stay young, you’ll age, and wither like a human, you’ll-"

"I did reincarnate into a baby once more. How did I do that? Don’t tell me, that was the last thing I could do? And I used it all my powers?" she asked. "Is that why I cannot use my magic like before? I feel weaker."

She certainly did not care for the fact that she has turned human. The fact that she got a menstrual cycle like a human female was the clue. She still could control it a bit and stopped her body from getting those nasty things, but she knew she will get those pesky cycles once she stops using her spells.

And she can have children like human females do once she starts getting her cycle. But that is the thought for another time.

"You’re..." Iorhael was not impressed by her lucid reaction at all. "How can you throw away all the privileges you have as the daughter of the Dragon King?"

Alexandra smiled. "Why not? I was born to those privileges and I don’t think they are that great or that necessary for me to be happy. Sure, I miss my mother and my sister. I could meet them if my father lets me, but he’s acting childish and keeping me from them. And that means..." Alexandra laughed. "There is a way for me to get back my "privileges" as you put, right?"

Iorhael leaned back on his chair and made a chopping motion on the table. "There... you are smart as I told you."

’Well, I don’t think a lot of smartness is needed to deduce this, but..."Alexandra shrugged.

This explains why her father is angry at her and is interfereing so much. He wants her to take the measures to return to the heavens. But she has no such plans.

"He is willing to give immortality to your husband too... that’s how much he is willing to give in for your wishes. Arimelda, think this through... Think about all the possibilities for your_"

"Well, I cannot make this decision without my husband now, can I?" she asked.

She remembered her father asking Maximus to ’rule over her’. She didn’t understand what he meant at all, but now she wondered if that had something to do with what they have to do to attain immortality.

"Since when do you let others decide for you, Arimelda? You are the great one! How can a mere human dictate-"

"I too am a human by your own admission, Iorhael. So..." Alexandra let out a sigh. "Will you tell me about this other soul inside me?"

"You are not going to change your mind, Arimelda? Are you going to embrace mortality and be forgotten? Don’t you want to live forever?" Iorhael asked. "Although your body has turned to that of a human’s your soul is of a demigod’s. You will not get reincarnated as humans do. And your body cannot take another reincarnation. If you die as a human this time, that is it. That would be the end for you. Aren’t you scared? Scared of what lies for you after your life here ends? There will be nothingness."

Alexandra bowed her head and fiddled with her fingers. If put that way, if she just has only decades left before she becomes nothing, it does bring out a fear. But looking back at everything that has happened in her life, wouldn’t that be a perfect end for someone like her? She was bored of her immortality and that was why she made rash decisions.

And having a finite life is in a way very good. She can spend the rest of her life in the way she wants, meaningful and peaceful.

"I am living forever, Iorhael. I live as the Great Father, I live as the Drovarys, I live as the Hailed Saint... Every form I took to help the human race have been immortalized. I have done enough. I have lived enough. I just want to have one short life to live for myself, with the man I love. Is that too much to ask? It might be stupid, but I am a stupid person, Iorhael. So I have found out." Alexandra said, her eyes twinkling in the moonlight.

Iorhael saw the happiness in her face, and he was lost for words. She is her best friend. Thinking that he might lose her very soon, made him feel grief already.

What is the life of a human, but a wisp of smoke or the flutter of the eyelid? How could she take dissolving into nothingness so easily?

But then, he knew she is like that, always. That was why he was so impressed with her. She lived for the present and did everything she can to help others whether they appreciated her or not and whether she was thanked or cursed. She is like that!

And if her father didn’t have any hopes that she would listen to him(he knew that’s why he came to him for help), then there is much less of a chance that she would listen to him. Because Iorhael knew that Arimelda loved her father the most.

But children grow up. They start exploring the world, and they make decisions and life choices for themselves. The parents will have to accept that. It would be hard to see the one you love making the "wrong decision" as you may think. But if that is what your child wants, and they have thought through it, how can a parent stop them? They will have to respect the choices of their child.

"Come with me," Iorhael stood up. He waved his hand and in front of him formed a portal, so bright but the other end of the portal looked murky.

Alexandra followed Iorhael into the portal. She was not scared. She was a little skeptical if Iorhael will actually help her, but she trusted him. She knew he will never hurt her. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

She was never been here as she remembered. But this place felt so pure and calm. She couldn’t see the ground, but she felt like walking over a swamp inside a cave. The walls of the cave looked serrated and water was heard dripping down.

For a place that should be eerie, this place didn’t give such a vibe. At the end of the tunnel, there was a bright light and Alexandra was stunned seeing the golden light, that was bright as the sun surrounding that place.

The branches were dark and the leaves glowed like gold. Little specks of gold were scattering from the bright white flowers and they ended up at the roots of the tree. There was no sun or moon in this place but only that big tree. She felt the great mana pulsating from the tree. No ordinary human would be able to handle the amount of mana here.

"The Tree of Valinor?" Alexandra was stunned.

This is the tree of life and it is said that every living being has come to pass because of this. She didn’t know much about this place, but she was told that her father came to from this tree and so did Inanis.

She did wonder how this tree came to be. Her father wouldn’t answer her. And he once said that to name himself as the creator is not fair to the one who created him. She never heard her father talk more about it. And he never repeated it either. That made her wonder if she had misheard her father.

"Why are we here?" Alexandra whispered.

She felt an odd feeling in her chest. Feeling that she is in the presence of a much greater power, power she need not fear, but she had the urge to kneel.
