Surviving In Another World With My Three Cups!-Chapter 136: BANQUET DRAMA 2
"Meaning that he already has a child who he would happily give the title of heir to... and it’s definitely not going to be the child of his first wife!"
Madame Mo only smiled and sat down, leaving her daughter to stir the trouble she wanted.
"Mo Lan!" Grandma Mo snapped as she walked toward her. "Shut your mouth! This is a joyful banquet, don’t you dare cause problems."
Mo Lan folded her arms and was ready to argue back when a loud voice cut through the crowd.
"Cause trouble? Hah! Grandmother, she’s only saying the truth!"
Everyone turned as Mo Ying’s voice echoed across the hall. He stepped into the banquet... not alone.
Standing beside him, hand in hand, was a woman who looked breathtaking. Lin Xu’s white hanfu fit her perfectly, almost like it was made just for her.
But what shocked everyone wasn’t just her beauty.
It was the hanfu she was wearing.
That outfit belonged to only one woman in the entire empire...
Mo Ying’s mother.
The most famous noble lady of her time.
Grandma Mo, Madame Mo, and the other family members all froze. Their eyes widened. Even Lady Fu was stunned, her face stiff.
Lady Fu’s eyes moved sharply, staring at the hanfu, and immediately understood:
This woman... was very important to Mo Ying.
Lin Xu noticed Lady Fu’s stare. She stayed calm, smiled politely, and bowed with Mo Ying as they greeted her.
Lady Fu finally asked, "Mo Ying... what did you mean by what you said earlier?"
Mo Ying smiled, pretending he wasn’t bothered at all.
"Since everyone here is already talking about it," he said loudly, "I might as well announce it properly... I have already chosen my next heir. And that will be my first son."
The entire hall buzzed.
Mo Lan immediately raised her voice, mocking him loudly, "His first son? You all know his first son isn’t Mo Sheng, it’s Mo Duan!"
Lin Xu stepped forward, her tone sharp and steady.
"It’s Mo Yuen, not Mo Duan," she corrected. "And you shouldn’t interrupt the general while he’s speaking. Or have you forgotten your manners?"
Everyone murmured in surprise. Mo Lan glared at her with pure hatred.
Mo Ying only smiled at the reaction. He walked forward toward Lady Fu and said gently,
"It’s a good day today. Let’s finish all these discussions later."
"Alright, if you say so..." Lady Fu smirked but gave Lin Xu a sideward gaze before making her way to the seat prepared for her.
San Na who had been quiet since the beginning of this whole drama just stared at Mo Ying.
He sat beside Lady Fu while the other family members made their way to their respective seats.
Her eyes also met with Lin Xu’s for just a brief moment. Turns out Lin Xu wasn’t a dumb woman.
’She didn’t wear the dress... interesting!’
Meanwhile Lin Xu looked at her, feeling disgusted. She had watched a lot of drama about women hating their fellow woman to the brink.
But she was just crazy as hell. It’s just a man yet... sigh!
"Since everyone is now here. Let the banquet start!"
Grandmother Mo declared as they all cheered.
While Lin Xu was seated quietly beside Mo Ying, she could feel the stares from the people present as they all gossiped about her.
Another thing she hated about ancient times was they had no shame. They could gossip about a person in front of them while knowing the person could hear them.
"Look at her, acting all high and mighty, she’s just a concubine!" one of the ladies whispered.
"Soon the general’s favor will belong to another lucky lady, she better enjoy her reign while it lasts!" another lady whispered.
Leaning towards her, Mo Ying said softly, "I hope my Miss Feisty doesn’t want to smash some people’s heads with this jade teacup!"
He teased as Lin Xu just shook her head with a slight smile. "Now that you talk about it, I do feel like hitting the person beside me with a jade teacup!" She teased as Mo Ying just smiled.
"Then I better warn him to move far away then!" They both laughed, their chemistry causing people to talk more and more.
Lady Fu who was also seated beside Mo Ying just watched them completely speechless, even she couldn’t believe that Mo Ying could be this affectionate to a woman.
But why not to his own wife? She wondered.
Standing up slowly and smoothing her heavy dress, Chu Ming finally saw her chance to impress Lady Fu. She lifted her chin, put on her sweetest smile, and walked forward.
The moment she stopped in front of Lady Fu, she bowed gracefully.
"Greetings, Lady Fu! This humble girl is Chu Ming—"
Lady Fu’s eyes scanned her once... then twice.
Her brows pulled together in clear dislike.
Chu Ming was covered in thick makeup, her face almost white, her lips overly bright. Her hair glittered with too many golden pins. Her dress was thick, heavy, stuffed with layers and embroidery that screamed money. And worst of all, her perfume was so strong and sweet it nearly choked the people nearby.
Lady Fu covered her nose slightly.
"...Who are you?" she asked, sounding annoyed.
Chu Ming happily introduced herself again, louder this time.
"I am Chu Ming! A daughter of the Chu family. It is my honor to meet the great Lady Fu."
Lady Fu stared at her for a long moment... then said plainly:
"Next time, don’t come before me smelling like an entire perfume shop. And wipe that thing off your face. You look like you fell into powder."
The entire hall went silent.
People froze. Some choked on their drinks. A few servants lowered their heads, shoulders shaking as they secretly tried not to laugh.
Chu Ming’s smile stiffened.
Her face turned pale under the makeup, but because she had so much powder on, she now looked patchy and even more ridiculous.
San Na, sitting quietly at her table, watched the scene with cold eyes.
Her face didn’t move.
But inside?
She was satisfied.
At least one of these women was foolish enough to embarrass herself in front of everyone, she thought.
Lady Fu had already lost interest. She waved Chu Ming away as if she were shooing a fly and gracefully turned her attention toward Mo Ying again.
Chu Ming stepped back quickly, almost tripping on her own heavy dress. Her ears were burning from shame, everyone staring at her like she was a joke.
Lin Xu couldn’t take this anymore. As much as she enjoyed seeing Chu Ming embarrassed, she still hated the fact that San Na would just sit there acting all innocent after scheming against her fellow woman.
So immediately, she voiced out loud enough for everyone in the whole banquet to hear.
"Lady Fu, I’m rather baffled because the last time I checked, I was also given a dress quite similar to that of Lady Chu Ming’s and they were all gotten from the first wife. Yet, the first wife is dressed in such a demure way. I kind of also suspected that maybe I just escaped being embarrassed myself!"
