Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 116: Grand Gift Package
Her dog’s head drooped listlessly...
"Dog Host, don’t be discouraged! A grand gift pack will be waiting for you with every upgrade."
The System cajoled, its tone like a pimp luring a good girl into a brothel.
Wu Yue gave it a sidelong glance. "System, your so-called ’grand gift packs’ have zero credibility with me. Have you forgotten that you stole my starter pack?"
Before the System could pull its usual disappearing act, she quickly added, "And don’t you dare give me that ’bad signal, need maintenance’ excuse again."
With that, she dragged out two dark, unidentifiable objects from a nearby corner and tossed them into her grassy nest. "First, let me turn in my quest."
Wu Yue could clearly sense the System’s momentary hesitation.
After a long pause, it finally stammered, "Of course the quest can be submitted... but don’t tell me these are the legendary dried dandelions?"
The System’s small voice held a sliver of uncertainty. Seeing the appraisal results, it genuinely began to wonder if its own analysis function was broken.
Wu Yue nodded as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Of course. Didn’t you run an analysis? Guaranteed satisfaction for all customers, young and old! They’re one hundred percent pure, wild, sun-dried dandelions. You can’t get cheated, you can’t lose out!"
The System: "..."
’Well, what can I say... Dog Host, that was a pretty slick sales pitch.’
’But still!’
"While it’s the inside that counts, doesn’t appearance matter at all?"
The System sounded completely disillusioned. "Host, dried greens this black will be mistaken for rejects that were scorched over a fire."
Wu Yue waved her paw dismissively. "Who cares about all that? As long as I can turn in the quest, it’s all good."
’That damn System scammed her out of so many bitter greens last time; she wasn’t about to be fooled again. The damn thing is way too sneaky. It must be building up a private stash for itself.’
Completely unaware that its little secret was about to be blown, the System whimpered as it accepted the two hideously ugly dried greens.
It was clearly quite dissatisfied with this acquisition, and its little voice was full of frustration. "Dog Host has completed the quest: ’Produce Dried Dandelions.’ Quest reward: 10 points have been deposited. Current points: 56. We hope the Dog Host will continue to strive for excellence."
Internally, it was whimpering and biting a little handkerchief. ’Freaking heck! The Dog Host is such a jerk! I’m just a poor little system with no freedom, what’s so wrong with trying to earn a few points for myself?’
’If you’re going to keep me around like a stray cat or dog, don’t I at least deserve some food?’
It waved its little handkerchief. "Dog Host, this little system’s heart is aching. I’ll be taking my leave now. I need to get some rest. Bye-bye."
And with that, it vanished.
Wu Yue rubbed her nose, feeling a little stingy.
’So, I guess I’ll give the System some wild greens tomorrow. How many should I give?’
Her eyes suddenly lit up!
’Ten should be enough. I’m so generous!’
The System: "..."
’I’m so fucking grateful to you!’
The next morning, just as Wu Yue was waking up, the door to her room was thrown open from the outside, and Qingcao rushed in like a gust of wind.
"Yue, get up, quick! I have the most amazing news for you!"
With a bit of sleep still in the corner of her eye, Wu Yue sported a fresh bedhead that resembled a bird’s nest. Her face was still imprinted with marks from the hay she’d slept on. In a state of utter confusion, she stared at Qingcao, who was so excited she was spinning in circles. ’Has this girl lost her mind?’
"What’s all this about?"
