Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 73: Little Smarty-pants
With that said, the two opened the Beast Skins in their hands, revealing a portion of dandelions that was clearly larger than the bitter greens from before.
"We’re off to make wild vegetable balls."
Mu Jing’s Amu stopped them. "Make some of both kinds of vegetable balls."
The two shouted their agreement, then went chattering away into the cave.
Meanwhile, Wu Yue and Qingcao were busy until the afternoon, finally finishing sorting through all the dandelions.
They had sorted out quite a lot of other things from the pile, and Wu Yue was surprised to even find Sichuan peppercorns and ginger among them.
The two of them packed the sorted dandelions into a bamboo bag, dragged it back into the house, and were just about to make some simple vegetable balls to eat.
But then, sudden bursts of crying and shouting erupted from the courtyard, a raucous clamor.
Wu Yue and Qingcao exchanged a look and hurried over.
The small courtyard was now crowded with tribe members. Cao Yuan and Mu Jing, their eyes red, were standing behind a middle-aged Grandma.
Wu Yue frowned, looking at Mu Jing. "What happened?"
Mu Jing was about to speak, but the middle-aged Grandma shrieked, "Did you mix poisonous grass into the vegetables you gave Mu Jing and Cao Yuan today?"
Wu Yue’s expression instantly turned cold. Her gaze was icy as she looked at the middle-aged Grandma. "What proof do you have?"
The middle-aged Grandma hesitated under her cold stare, but then she thought of Cao Yuan’s mother, still at home and in agony.
The middle-aged Grandma’s resolve hardened again. "Today, Cao Yuan and Mu Jing came here to trade for your vegetables. After we ate them for lunch, Cao Yuan’s mother started getting stomach pains. And you still claim it wasn’t you?"
She wagged her finger, dry and blackened from years of hard labor, right in Wu Yue’s face. A few times, Wu Yue had to dodge just to keep from being poked in the cheek.
At her words, Wu Yue let out a laugh, but every tribe member present could hear the icy edge in it.
A hush fell over the courtyard. Everyone’s eyes were involuntarily drawn to the small, thin female.
The small female reached out and—SLAP!—smacked the middle-aged Grandma’s hand down. "Your finger was about to poke me in the face."
With that, she looked at the middle-aged Grandma. "You said all of you ate the vegetables you got from me?"
The middle-aged Grandma shrieked, "That’s right, we all ate them! We traded for those vegetables right here. You dare deny it?"
Wu Yue nodded with a cold smile. "Of course you did."
The crowd in the courtyard instantly broke into murmurs.
"Did that small female really mix poisonous grass into it?"
"That can’t be right. Mu Jing and Cao Yuan get along so well with Yue."
"But..." Wu Yue’s clear, cold voice rang out again. "Can you tell me, Grandma, why is it that Cao Yuan’s mother got a stomach ache from my vegetables, but none of you did?"
At these words, the courtyard first fell silent, then the crowd couldn’t help but cast doubtful glances at the middle-aged Grandma and the two behind her, Cao Yuan and Mu Jing.
The middle-aged Grandma froze. "Well... I..."
That was a good question. Why were they all fine, when Cao Yuan’s mother was the one who got sick?
"What’s going on here?" Grandma Hua Shu’s voice came from outside the courtyard, and the crowd quickly parted to make a path.
Behind the imposing Hua Shu, a tall, handsome Beastman followed her in.
Yuan Lang, carrying a piece of meat, glanced at the small female’s icy expression and felt a surge of secret pride.
’He really was a clever one. This new Amu of his was fiercely protective of her own.’
