Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband-Chapter 245: When the Ring Turns Red
Medeia narrowed her eyes and spoke hesitantly. "The thing hiding beneath us ... is it some kind of worm?"
She still couldn’t understand why the system detected something called the King of Worms when she hadn’t seen even a trace of a giant worm anywhere.
Tian didn’t answer right away. Instead, he urged them to leave. "Come on, let’s talk somewhere else. This place is suffocating."
He wasn’t wrong.
Ever since that huge hole appeared, Medeia had felt a strange pressure on her chest, like something heavy was sitting there, making it harder to breathe.
Lucian nodded in agreement. "He’s right. We need to get out of here before the others waiting for us start to worry and come looking."
No one objected, so they all began heading out.
Medeia and Lucian walked at the very back of the group. She seemed hesitant to leave so soon, as if she were waiting for something to crawl out of that dark, endless pit.
"Medeia, what’s wrong?" Lucian asked, gently taking her hand when he noticed she kept glancing over her shoulder.
"I actually have a hidden quest," she whispered so only Lucian could hear. "The system asked me to kill the King of Worms ... but I haven’t seen any worms inside this church."
Lucian eventually wrapped his arm around her waist and nudged her forward. "If the worm is living inside that pit, then it’s not safe for us to stay here."
But what was the worst that could happen if they stayed?
If the building collapsed, Lucian could shield them in an instant and throw away the debris.
And now that Medeia could fly, falling into that bottomless pit wouldn’t be a huge problem for her either.
"I don’t like this," Medeia muttered, taking a deep breath before finally turning away from the hole. "This uncertainty is driving me crazy."
And then there was something else. She still didn’t understand why Tian had said they couldn’t leave the church.
If he could really see the future, why did he even come in here, knowing something terrible would happen?
Unless ... maybe he’d only seen the vision after they were already inside, and by then it was too late to leave.
Still, he had been far too calm. If it had been Ren who received that kind of vision, he probably would’ve gone into a panic and tried to break the door down immediately.
"Don’t worry," Lucian said softly. "Whatever it is, you’ll be fine. I promise."
He didn’t even look worried, just calm, like he truly believed nothing could touch her as long as he was there.
Medeia nodded. "Alright. Let’s get out of here."
The demons, the skeletons, and the thick, humid air were starting to make her uncomfortable.
As soon as they stepped out of the underground chamber, Medeia spotted Sora and the others waiting near the entrance.
"What happened?!" Sora asked in a panic. "What was that explosion just now?!"
It seemed like Lucian and the others had started searching for them the moment they heard the loud explosion. But still, how did Lucian find her so quickly?
Medeia glanced down at her hand, her eyes landing on the ring wrapped around her finger. Then she looked at the matching ring on Lucian’s hand.
Ah. She had completely forgotten about the eternal bond rings.
If she remembered correctly, Lucian’s ring had briefly flashed red when he was running toward her in the underground chamber.
No wonder he looked so furious and shouted at her. He must have thought something terrible had happened when the ring suddenly turned red.
"There’s a room underground that collapsed," Tian said calmly. "I don’t think it’s going to affect the building structure for now, but ... there is something else we should be worried about."
Finn, who had just heard that the underground floor had collapsed, turned pale. "Wait, what do you mean it collapsed? And what do you mean there’s something else we need to worry about?!"
Medeia stepped up to him, placed a hand gently on his shoulder, and said firmly, "Finn, calm down. The last thing I want is to see you turn into the Lost."
Finn immediately clamped his mouth shut, but his foot kept tapping anxiously against the ground, revealing just how nervous he still was.
"Here," Naomi said as she suddenly handed him an old Rubik’s cube. The colors had faded a little, but it still worked just fine.
"Try solving it," she added with a soft smile. "It’s better to keep your mind busy than let it spiral with worry."
Finn stared at the Rubik’s cube in his hands for a while before finally giving it a twist. "Thanks," he said quietly.
Naomi smiled. "Anytime."
Medeia let out a small sigh of relief and leaned closer, whispering to Naomi, "I didn’t know you liked solving Rubik’s cubes."
"That’s because I don’t," Naomi chuckled. "I only brought it for him."
Medeia raised an eyebrow, a little surprised. "You brought it just in case he panicked?"
Naomi shrugged lightly. "I’ve seen how his hands shake when he’s overwhelmed. He needs something to hold onto, something his brain can focus on."
She glanced at Finn, who was now completely absorbed in the puzzle. "Well, we definitely don’t want him suddenly turning into one of the Lost, right?"
Medeia was speechless. In that moment, she felt sure she had made the right choice bringing Naomi along on this journey.
At the very least, Naomi knew how to handle a stressed-out teenager.
If it had been up to Medeia, she probably would’ve just told him to stop panicking.
"Yeah ... that’s good," Medeia murmured.
Meanwhile, Tian turned to Lucian and asked, "Can you lock the door for now?"
Lucian simply nodded and went to repair the lock, one that had been damaged earlier by Tian himself.
Those in the group who had never seen Lucian’s ability before froze, glancing around at each other like they needed confirmation they weren’t the only ones who just witnessed it: Lucian had telekinetic ability.
However, what he did was such a simple task, just fixing a lock.
If they had seen him lifting an entire building, they probably would’ve fainted on the spot.
"You ... you have telekinetic ability?" Sora asked after managing to calm her nerves.
Lucian offered her a warm smile. "I do."
Gideon cleared his throat, trying to ease the tension in his voice. "He just fixed a lock. It’s not that impressive."
Lucian didn’t respond, he just smiled. He wasn’t the kind of person who bragged about his abilities.
He’d told Medeia once, "Let people see what you can do. No need to force them to believe it."
"But he didn’t even lift a finger," Walter said suddenly. His voice cut through the group’s murmuring. He looked directly at Lucian. "You did it effortlessly. What’s the maximum weight you can lift?"
Lucian tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely thinking about it. "I’m not sure ... I’ve never really measured."
Of course he hadn’t.
Why would he?
Lucian could basically lift anything he wanted.
