Sweet like Wine: Love Your Dimples Even More-Chapter 70 - 44: Summer Lowell and the Fifth Summer
years ago, the entire Islay was abuzz with rumors that the nearly seventy-year-old Hieronymus was going to marry an Asian woman.
Gossip as a "species" proliferates and iterates the fastest, no matter the country.
However, the gossip passed from mouth to mouth often has gaps with the truth.
years ago, Quinn Fairmont, after various turns, brought Summer Lowell to Scotland.
Due to her sensitivity to alcohol, Quinn Fairmont secured a job as a sommelier and gradually revealed her talent in whiskey blending through her work.
Although being a sommelier isn’t as prestigious a "profession" as a wine taster, it still requires significant skill, and it couldn’t possibly be an underpaid job, enough for Quinn Fairmont to support herself and Summer Lowell.
Quinn Fairmont was alone, and Summer Lowell had yet to find a school willing to accept her.
Several times, Quinn Fairmont took Summer Lowell to work, only to encounter small mishaps, which greatly displeased the restaurant manager.
After the third incident, Quinn Fairmont had no choice but to harden her heart and lock Summer Lowell in the dormitory.
Quinn Fairmont bought many snacks for Summer Lowell, promising to return in two hours.
Summer Lowell was only three years old then and didn’t understand much. Being left alone, she nearly set the entire dormitory on fire.
As expected, Quinn Fairmont was fired. All the money she had on her, along with her unpaid wages, vanished into thin air.
On a stormy night, Quinn Fairmont and Summer Lowell were thus driven to the streets.
Quinn Fairmont found an abandoned old castle, seemingly untended for decades, for Summer Lowell to take shelter from the rain.
By chance, they arrived at the long-neglected home of Hieronymus Brunswick, the last heir of The Brunschwig Family.
Hieronymus was not welcoming of the mother and daughter who intruded unannounced.
He had been living in a daze for eighteen years and was long accustomed to this lifestyle.
However, seeing Quinn Fairmont wrap her coat around Summer Lowell, shivering from the cold herself, Hieronymus still tossed her a bottle of whiskey.
In Hieronymus’s "castle", there was nothing in short supply except whiskey.
Seated in his wheelchair, Hieronymus was never a friendly person. When he tossed the bottle to Quinn Fairmont, he didn’t care if she could catch it.
To Hieronymus’s disbelief, this Asian woman, after taking a sip of whiskey, could report the alcohol content and identify up to five brewing ingredients. She even made a simple deduction of the whiskey’s brewing process and asked if anything was amiss.
The appearance of Quinn Fairmont gave the nearly seventy-year-old Hieronymus hope for the family’s legacy.
After some time spent together, Hieronymus developed sufficient trust in Quinn Fairmont.
Although he couldn’t brew personally, Hieronymus, having grown up surrounded by it, wasn’t unfamiliar with The Brunschwig Family’s brewing techniques. He decided to set aside his prejudices and was determined to teach Quinn Fairmont the most ancient whiskey brewing craft with all his might.
Perhaps it was fate’s jealousy of genius, or maybe fate hadn’t yet finished its plan for The Brunschwig Family.
Quinn Fairmont was only Hieronymus’s "apprentice" for a year before she mysteriously died in the whiskey storage, leaving behind the then four-year-old Summer Lowell.
Due to his limited mobility, Hieronymus only began looking for Quinn Fairmont three hours after dinner time.
By the time he found her, Summer Lowell had been knocking until her hands bled, and Quinn Fairmont was already dead beyond saving.
In Quinn Fairmont’s belongings, Hieronymus found no contact information for any of Summer Lowell’s relatives back in her home country, so he contacted the embassy.
The embassy called Finn Lowell.
Finn Lowell said he had no wife, no daughter, and wouldn’t go to Scotland to collect the body.
After Quinn Fairmont left, Finn Lowell actually did regret it.
He got a visa and went to Scotland to find Quinn Fairmont, hoping to bring her and Summer Lowell back.
years ago, obtaining a visa to the United Kingdom wasn’t easy.
By the time Finn Lowell got the visa and arrived in Scotland, all he heard was the same rumor that Catherine Morgan’s father had heard 19 years ago. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
During the monologue, Sean Lowell said his parents argued, and his mother left with his sister after the divorce.
This wasn’t the truth. Finn Lowell and Quinn Fairmont never went through divorce procedures.
So, the moment Finn Lowell arrived in Scotland, he was hit with an unexpected realization of infidelity.
He couldn’t accept that Quinn Fairmont had found a seventy-year-old man to cheat on him, and having no outlet, he could only direct his increasing resentment toward the son Quinn Fairmont left him.
Sean Lowell was caught in the crossfire, and so was Summer Lowell.
Hieronymus was infertile. If it weren’t for this, when his brother Westwood was still alive and The Brunschwig Family was thriving, even a degree of disability wouldn’t have stopped Hieronymus from marrying and having children.
Hieronymus never considered marriage throughout his life, and of course, he couldn’t have married Quinn Fairmont.
Out of a teacher-student bond, Hieronymus did not send the unclaimed Summer Lowell to an orphanage after Quinn Fairmont’s death but adopted her, even giving her the surname of her mother, Diwu.
From then on, Summer Lowell became Sommer Diwu, known as Summer Fairmont by Artie Vaughn, even if not phonetically, still undoubtedly Summer Fairmont.
