Chapter 14: Sword Dance in the Northern District

Aamon charged forward again without the help of the 10x skill effect. Luckily for him, Aamon was attacking the monsters with good equipment, such as his sword.

He used the regular skill 1000 Sword Movement, striking ten times and creating an explosion at the end of each hit in the final phase of the skill.

The monsters were significantly injured, but it was still not enough to kill them.

The last squad evacuated right after they realized they could not keep attacking any longer. However, Aamon stayed behind, attacking the monsters with the swift movements of an assassin skill.

One of the women stopped beside Tissa. "Are you in the same squad as him?"

"Yes," Tissa replied.

"You’re lucky. He knows how to kill those monsters!" the mage woman praised, making Tissa feel pleased because her choice had been the right one.

When Tissa opened the third skill scroll, she was fortunate that the third regular skill was one that increased basic attributes.

"Aamon! I got that skill."

Aamon heard Tissa’s voice. Being in the same party with her made it easy for him to hear what she said.

He leaped far back and landed in front of the concrete barricade, right before Tissa.

"Are... are you okay?" Tissa asked.

Aamon took an HP Potion and drank it. His strength returned, and the wounds on his body healed.

"I’m fine. Just tired... and overwhelmed."

Tissa extended her priest staff toward Aamon. His body shone with golden light again, surprising the young man.

"I increased all your attributes by 15%. I don’t know how big the impact will be," Tissa explained.

Aamon looked at both of his hands as the system panel appeared before him.

[Buff: Boost Basic Attributes 15%]

Even with the increase, the numbers were still not significant. The percentage was only 15%, and Aamon’s attribute values were still small.

But an increase was still an increase. Aamon could not complain about that.

He gripped his sword again and charged forward, straight toward a monster whose HP had turned yellow, a sign that it was injured.

[Assassin Class: Death Sigil]

Aamon entered stealth mode and threw an iron needle that struck the grasshopper monster in front of him. With a thrust of his sword, Aamon killed the monster in a single strike.

His stamina recovered, and the skill cooldown was reduced. He moved again as he realized the grasshopper monsters were surrounding him.

[Assassin Class: Shadow Stealth]

Aamon’s presence vanished from the crowd. With eight seconds of stealth mode, Aamon planned to kill another monster.

He targeted the farthest grasshopper monster. Aamon swung his sword and split the monster’s body in a single attack.

His presence was detected again by the others. But Aamon did not give up.

[Sword Skill: 1000 Sword Movement]

Blue light appeared around Aamon’s body. He moved as fast as lightning, weaving between the grasshopper monsters attacking him. His target was not just any of them, but something more specific.

Seven grasshopper monsters were already wounded. By targeting them with that skill, they could die after the explosion effect that occurred after the tenth hit.

Aamon slashed them, stabbed their stomachs, then kicked their bodies away. He spun again when he felt surrounded by enemies.

The soldiers looked stunned by Aamon’s fight. They stopped shooting, watching the moment that stirred both their minds and hearts.

Tissa smiled widely, her eyes glistening as she watched Aamon’s ability. She never expected that their meeting in the tent would lead her to witness a moment like this.

"You really are different, Aamon."

From within the crowd, Aamon jumped back quickly after the tenth strike landed on the monsters. Blue light flared from their wounds, followed by small explosions that worsened their injuries.

Those seven monsters died, leaving eight monsters remaining in the northern district. However, there was no sign that they would attack.

Aamon stood in front of them, still gripping his sword, while the eight grasshopper monsters also stood there staring at him.

They screeched once, as if shouting, then flew away from the northern district. Aamon let out a sigh of relief and reached out to collect the loot from the monsters he had killed.

[Congratulations! You obtained drop items:]

[+180 EXP || +120 Contribution Points || +120 Coins || 12x Monster Core || 5x HP Potion]

He took an HP Potion, opened the bottle, and drank it. The wounds on his body slowly healed.

From Tissa’s view, she saw Aamon’s HP in the top left corner increase significantly. She knew that Aamon was consuming an HP Potion.

Another panel appeared before Tissa, displaying the EXP she had gained. Her contribution in the battle was 40%. She received 120 EXP out of the total 300 EXP gained after killing 12 monsters.

That was a lot. Much more, almost matching the EXP she had gained earlier.

In front of Aamon, a panel appeared informing him of the EXP gained and his level increase.

[Congratulations! You leveled up]

[Attribute Points: 10]

Level three. My level is higher than everyone else here.

His attention immediately shifted to the attribute points. He tapped the attribute points section twice, directing Aamon to the basic attributes menu.

Without hesitation, Aamon allocated all the points into two attributes that were most important for him: STR and AGI.

[Congratulations! Attribute Points successfully allocated]

[STR: 17] [+5]

[AGI: 16] [+5]

[INT: 10]

[CON: 17]

[SPI: 10]

[AP: 0] [-10]

Golden light briefly appeared around his body, then disappeared just as quickly. Aamon’s attention shifted behind him. Tissa was waiting there.

He walked back toward her, jumping over the concrete barricade and meeting the priest who had helped him so much.

"How... how are you feeling?"

"I’m fine," Aamon said. "Maybe I just need a shower."

"Thank goodness," Tissa said.

Several soldiers came forward and congratulated Aamon. What he had done had ended the wave of monster attacks in this area. Once again, Aamon found himself surrounded by people.

"Attention!" a woman’s voice commanded.

The soldiers immediately stood firmly and stayed alert. They stepped aside, making way for Captain Lucas and Commander Nana.

They had received a report that Aamon had fought alone on the front line right after three elite squads had retreated.

Seeing the condition of Aamon’s uniform and the city streets filled with monster corpses, the report appeared to be true.

"No wonder Commander Robert from the Chicago District trusted you," Nana said.

"I acknowledge your ability, Aamon," Nana continued. "Is there something you need from us?"

Aamon narrowed his eyes, sheathing his sword and looking at Nana.

"Yes. I need to know the situation in Washington, New York, and Los Angeles."

Commander Nana froze for a moment, then let out a quiet sigh. "The situation there is more chaotic. The large population has overwhelmed the military. But I heard Washington is free from threats."

"Even so, I don’t want to act recklessly by relocating too many Milwaukee residents there," Nana explained.

"We received reports that the monsters in the sky are far more terrifying. They destroyed our F-16s with ease," Lucas said.

Aamon narrowed his eyes and clenched his fist. If what Lucas said was true, then there was no doubt that the monsters attacking the F-16s were level 3 or 4 monsters.

Only monsters at that level could destroy advanced fighter jets like the F-16.

"What we really need to think about is food reserves. No factories are operating, farmers are afraid to go to their fields, and we need to ration our food," Nana said.

"With your strength, we might be able to form a team to—"

"No, Commander Nana," Aamon said, interrupting.

Their attention turned to Aamon. Nana also looked curious about why he had interrupted her.

"Sorry for cutting you off. I didn’t come here with the intention of helping you."

"My mission is important. I’m searching for the person behind this disaster. I can’t get tied up with work like that."

"What?" Nana asked, shocked.

"My destination is those three cities. I don’t want to be trapped in Milwaukee."

Aamon lowered his head slightly toward Nana.

"These people have already seen how cowardly I am."

"Thank you, Commander Nana."

He walked away from the place. Tissa hurried after him and stopped him before he could go farther.

"It’s dangerous out there. You could die, Aamon."

Aamon smiled faintly. "I know the dangers I face. Whatever I do, I already know the consequences."

"Then... Can I come with you? You’ll probably need someone to help you, right?"

"No," Aamon said firmly. "You stay here and help John. They really need you."

"What about you?" Tissa asked.

Aamon fell silent for a moment, then let out a quiet sigh.

"I’m used to being alone. I... don’t need your help."
