System S.E.X. (Seduction, Expansion, eXecution)-Chapter 346: The Uninvited Guest
The charcoal-gray SUV roared to life, its engine purring with a power that felt more like a predatory beast than a machine. Ryan gripped the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the glowing GPS coordinates on the dashboard. The drive to the Hamptons usually took hours, but with the city streets clearing late at night and a body overflowing with newfound vitality, Ryan felt like he could bridge the distance in heartbeats.
"I’m coming for you," said Ryan.
After a few hours, the charcoal gray SUV pulled smoothly up alongside the high-end vehicle.
Ryan sat in the driver’s seat for a moment, his hands gripping the steering wheel. The pain that had defined his existence for the last two weeks was gone, replaced by the simple, raw strength of a man who had been given a second chance.
He stepped out of the vehicle, still dressed in the simple, slightly worn clothes he had been wearing at the hospital—a faded shirt and trousers that looked out of place against the backdrop of the million-dollar mansions of the Hamptons. He looked like a ghost haunting a playground for the rich.
He walked up to the towering iron gates and didn’t try to sneak in. Instead, he stood right in the center of the driveway and filled his lungs.
"Open the gates! Bring her out!" said Ryan.
His voice echoed off the stone walls of the surrounding properties. Within moments, the lights of the main mansion flickered on. Two security guards approached the gate, looking at him with a mixture of confusion and annoyance. They saw the luxury SUV parked at the curb, but looking at Ryan’s rudimentary clothes, they immediately assumed he was a chauffeur or a delivery man who had lost his mind.
"Hey! Shut up and get out of here. This is a private neighborhood. If you don’t move that car and yourself in ten seconds, we’re calling the police," said one of the guards.
"I’m not leaving without my wife. Tell them Ryan is here," said Ryan.
The front doors of the mansion opened, and a woman in an elegant evening gown stepped onto the porch, followed by the familiar, sharp figure of his mother-in-law. She peered through the darkness, squinting until she recognized the man standing at the gate.
"Ryan? Is that... is that you standing there?" said the mother-in-law.
She walked down the path toward the gate, her heels clicking on the stone. She looked at him through the iron bars as if he were an exhibit in a zoo.
"How are you even walking? The doctors said you’d be in a wheelchair for the rest of your miserable life. Where do you get the nerve to show up here, looking like a beggar, shouting in the street?" said the mother-in-law.
"I’m here for her. Let her out," said Ryan.
The mother-in-law let out a sharp, mocking laugh, gesturing toward the SUV parked behind him.
"And what? You’re going to take her away in your employer’s car? Did you steal that? Or are you just leaning on it to keep your weak legs from buckling? Look at you, Ryan. You’re a nobody in a hand-me-down shirt. My daughter is inside, preparing for a life that doesn’t include a broken clerk," said the mother-in-law.
"The car is mine. The house I’m taking her to is mine. And my legs... my legs have never been stronger," said Ryan.
The guards laughed, and even the mother-in-law’s expression turned to one of pitying contempt.
"You’ve lost your mind as well as your future. Guards, get him out of my sight. If he resists, use your batons. He’s already been shot once; I doubt he’ll want to feel more pain," said the mother-in-law.
One of the guards reached for his belt, stepping toward the gate to unlock it and deal with the "intruder." Ryan didn’t back away. He stood his ground, his eyes fixed on the front door of the mansion, waiting for the only person whose voice mattered.
"You think I’m afraid of you? Fuck you and get out of my way!" said Ryan.
The mother-in-law’s face turned a deep shade of crimson. Her composure shattered, replaced by a cold, elitist fury. She looked at the two guards and pointed a trembling finger at the gate.
"I don’t want to see his face ever again! Get him out of here, break his other leg if you have to, just get this trash off my driveway!" said she.
The guards didn’t hesitate. They swung the heavy iron gate open and lunged at Ryan. One reached for a baton while the other attempted to grab Ryan’s shoulder to pin him down.
"Stay down, kid, you’re making this harder than it needs to be," said the guard.
Ryan fought back with a desperation fueled by the miracle in his veins. He dodged the first grab and shoved the guard back, but he was no martial artist. He was an office clerk who had just been healed. Without formal training, his movements were clumsy. The second guard struck him across the ribs with a baton, and the first guard tackled him to the gravel.
"Let me go! She’s my wife!" said Ryan, his face pressed into the sharp stones of the driveway.
Suddenly, a muffled scream erupted from the second floor of the mansion. A window was thrown open, and the sound of a struggle echoed through the night.
"Let me out! I heard him! I heard my husband’s voice!" said she.
Inside the mansion, Ryan’s wife was fighting to get past her own father. The older man, dressed in a tailored suit, gripped her arm with a strength that was far from gentle.
"Be quiet! That man is a ghost. You need to move on!" said he. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"You lied to me! You told me he died in the hospital! You told me the internal bleeding took him! Why did you lie to me?" said she, her voice cracking with a mixture of grief and sudden hope.
"It was for your own good! Marrying that starving wretch was the worst mistake you ever made. He was an anchor dragging you into the mud. Now we are giving you a fresh start, a life you actually deserve!" said the father.
"I don’t want your life! I want Ryan!" said she.
Back at the gate, Ryan heard her voice and felt a surge of adrenaline that defied his physical limits. He kicked out at the guard pinning him, catching him in the stomach. He scrambled to his feet, his shirt torn and his face covered in dust and blood, but his eyes were burning.
"You heard her! She knows I’m here!" said Ryan.
The mother-in-law stepped forward, her heels grinding into the gravel as she stood over him.
"It doesn’t matter what she wants. She’s leaving for Europe in four hours, and you’ll be in a jail cell. You’re a nobody, Ryan Mitchell. A clerk. A failure. You can’t protect her, you can’t provide for her, and you certainly can’t stop us," said she.
Ryan looked at the mansion, then at the luxury SUV parked at the curb, and finally at the guards closing in on him again. He realized that even with his body healed, he was still playing by their rules. He needed more. He needed to be the man Ethan told him he could be.
