Severin sighed. Things had happened so quickly that he didn’t have time to train himself in his new powers or get used to them. He rushed to kill and get information from Head Librarian Teresa, and now he had gotten himself into a bit of a situation.

He needed to find a way to get out of this.

"Who are the higher ups?" Severin asked. He watched as Jade crouched beside him and began to search his body.

Jade shook his head. "You really don’t bring anything with you? And what’s with this raven costume? I can’t get your mask off."

Severin said flatly, "It’s an expensive costume. And don’t bother yourself with the mask unless you are ready to tear my face off."

Jade stopped searching him after he realized there was nothing on him except the tattoo still on his left hand. "We’ll do something with that later."

Severin didn’t give up. "Who are the higher ups? I know about Darius Faulkner, but who else?"

Jade didn’t answer as he bent down to lift him.

Alarm flared through Severin. He really didn’t want to leave and meet the ’higher ups.’ He knew things that he didn’t like would happen. "Wait! Did he know you are here?"

"Who?" Jade demanded, slinging him over his shoulder.

"Lucas Dawn!"

Jade shuddered and stiffened.

Severin was surprised at Jade’s reaction, but he continued anyway. "I’m sure your friends don’t know about this. What do you think will happen if Lucas Dawn finds out?"

Severin was using every possible method to stall for time, hoping that the paralyzing effects would wear off.

Jade snorted. "Lucas Dawn. The golden child of the Academy. I think he wouldn’t mind, as long as I do not go overboard. That guy is so obsessed with power that it’s frightening sometimes."

"You know, I might actually involve him in this. If he’ll gain more power, then he would definitely want to be involved," Jade finished.

’...and yet in the end, it wasn’t enough...’ Severin thought. But he didn’t say that out loud. "Look. We can talk about this..."

Jade cut him off. "Seriously. Thank you for getting me out of the Dungeon the other time. We’re even now!"

Severin didn’t think he’d ever meet someone so openly shameless like this guy. He paused for a moment before he continued speaking, slowly. "How are we even?"

"For not killing you. You know, I could kill you for attacking Head Librarian Teresa, but I chose not to. I’m only going to hand you over to the Academy."

"You’re handing me to Darius Faulkner."

"Yes," Jade said simply. The next moment he dropped him again and then loomed over him. "You talk too much..."

"See kettle calling...!!"

Before Severin could finish speaking, Jade already gave him a brutal chop to the neck, and he passed out.

When Severin Reignhart woke up, he found himself in an office that was lit by bright light. He still couldn’t move his body.

"You are awake, boy," Darius Faulkner said.

He leaned far too close for Severin’s comfort. "The seed of Pain."

Even with his body in such a state, Severin felt a shudder run through him. "What are you talking about? Who are you?"

Darius Faulkner snorted and moved away. "Severin Reignhart. You truly are good at hiding. To think you can already remember everything. But one thing you lacked is foresight. You start to gain powers and attract attention to yourself."

Darius snorted. He seemed to be in a good mood. "The Reignhart’s bloodline didn’t have such. But it was cursed."

Now, that was a surprise. It got Severin’s attention. "Cursed? By who?"

"It’s complicated. It has to do with Dolor and some millions of people." Darius stared at him intently. "You should know more than I do. It’s your family’s history."

Severin snorted coldly. "Maybe I would know it if you hadn’t killed my family."

Darius smiled then and nodded. "Seems you haven’t recovered all your memories then. I’ll just wipe you clean again. This time you won’t be a student. You will be my son."

Severin felt a chill down his spine. "What?"

"You are already fused with the seed. It will take time, years, to extract it from your body. I won’t have you causing troubles till then, so I’ll just keep you quiet."

Severin realized that he had underestimated the situation he was in. Wipe his memories? "What the fuck, Darius! Haven’t you done enough? What are you really after?"

Darius smiled. "The survival of humanity. And you, Severin Reignhart, are going to be part of it. Alas, your sacrifice will only be known to a selected few. You are now Severin Faulkner. You will die for my family."

Severin smiled bitterly. Ah... an extra in the true sense of the word. To die somewhere so quietly that he won’t even leave a ripple behind.
