Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 29: Head Instructor?
Chapter 29 - Head Instructor?
Just in time, as a purple light flashed in front of him, a thin slice of the purple light that seemed to warp the space around it cut forward, straight at the box.
But Severin's calculation proved right because the attack that was meant for his neck was absorbed by the box. And the box was made of quality material, too strong to be scratched by a careless attack.
She came to the same realization at the same time as him, and she bit her lips in anger. "You...!!"
But before she could do anything, they all felt something. A loud crash like glass shattering echoed from outside, and she flinched, her attention turned sideways. "It can't be!"
But it was. A sensation as if they were submerged underwater spread in the air, but the water was hot mud because everywhere turned thick with heat.
The building shook, and then the ceiling exploded as a man drilled his way in with his feet. Everything happened so fast and almost so simultaneously that it didn't take two blinks.
The shockwave of the man blasting in sent Severin and the others sprawling. The man was tall with hair cut short. He wore a jacket that hung from one shoulder, and he immediately faced the only threat that he saw. "Who are you bastards?"
The woman smiled. "So it came to this. We really didn't want that much bloodlust today, but what must be done must be done."
"I asked you, who are you? And this power you are using... this is not Etherion."
She laughed. "Oh, you will know. The world will know soon enough."
The man grunted, and pressure flared from him in an overpowering wave of heat and Etherion of bristling black lightning.
The air in the room seemed to vanish immediately. Severin couldn't breathe, and his eyes went blank. He heard the others gasping for breath around him.
"...Shit... at this rate, we are really going to die... this is why people don't fight near high Advanced Stage Etherion users... just his aura alone... and this man... is he...?"
Even the woman hesitated. She shook her head. "You, boy, you have made yourself an enemy of the Scar."
And then she vanished together with her portal.
The man shook his head in disgust, his own pressure also lifted from the air. "I hate those teleportation Talent Abilities."
Severin finally began to breathe again, but it didn't last long because he felt a presence behind him, as if a monster was standing close with its maw open.
His body stiffened, and he locked up immediately, an instinctive reaction.
The man snorted and picked up the box. "Just what happened here?"
Since all the aura that had made it difficult to breathe was gone, Severin composed himself as best as he could as he stood. Then he finally saw who it was.
The man had only one eye, black like the night itself, and a face carved with scars. An eyepatch covered the other one.
There is only one character with those features in the book.
Head Instructor Darius Faulkner. A commander, veteran of war before he joined the Zenith Hero Academy.
A very dangerous person.
Severin didn't know he was present in the event of the operation, since the author didn't go into details of all that happened. After all, this event was only a setup for the one that directly affects the main protagonist.
He was glad that his heart didn't skip a beat when he saw the man looking at him with an unreadable expression.
Quickly, Severin changed his expression to that of relief. His whole body sagged, and he let pain show in his eyes. "Head Instructor Darius! Something happened. Some people are going around in the hallway killing everyone!
"We were cleaning close here, so we tried to escape, but they suddenly attacked us!" He was breathing hard at the end of it, doing his best to be as unassuming as possible.
Darius stared at him without expression for a while, then turned to Derrick and Ethan picking themselves up, then to the bodies on the ground. His hand clenched on the box. "Student, what is your name?"
"Severin Reignhart, Head Instructor."
"I have no recollection of such a name, but now I know. So those were spies? Time to do some cleansing. It is alright now, students. You can go."
Severin turned to go with the others when Darius spoke again. "Wait behind, Student Severin."
Severin froze immediately, and his spine tingled. Sweat began to cover his body, and thousands of thoughts flashed in his mind. It reminded him of when he'd stolen money and his father would call him for questioning.
He did what he always did.
He made his head go blank and his expression a mixture of confusion and eagerness.
He turned. "Head Instructor?"
"Do you know what this is, Student Severin?" Darius asked casually, lifting the box, but his eyes were sharper than a blade.
Severin knew that a wrong answer, and he would find himself in an interrogation room. Darius was suspecting him. The fact that he'd picked him, the weakest out of the three, meant that he had done something wrong.
He resisted the urge to rub his sweating hand on his trousers as he answered in a straightforward way. He frowned. "That is an artifact?"
Darius tossed the box. "Indeed. An artifact. Do you know why I called you behind?"
Severin shook his head, staying quiet.
Darius took a step forward, still speaking in the same casual tone. "Because you seem to be acting. Your words feel practiced, as if you'd gone over it again and again."
Severin's heart finally started to beat fast, and he fully expected his head to roll in the air the next instant. But surprisingly, Darius smiled.
"But that's impossible. I can see how weak you are, practically almost a normal human. So how can it be like that? You are dismissed, Student Severin. And go treat that hand. That's a dangerous technique to use."
Severin left after bowing, but he felt the eyes of the Head Instructor on him until he turned a corner.
