Three Weeks ago (Selene’s arrival at Greyhound Airport with the twins)

Seated at the conference table in the Regional Council Hall were six Alphas - Alpha Jared of the Blue Moon Pack, Alpha Mason of the Firelit Pack, Alpha Kyle of the Shadow Hunt Pack, Alpha Kingston of the Waterfall Pack, Alpha Zed of the Two Moon Pack, Alpha Jason of the Red moon pack. All Six Alphas from the Easter Region had gathered but one person was missing and it was Alpha Xavier of the Greyhound Pack.

He was also the leader of the Alphas of the Eastern Werewolf Pack Coalition but since the incident that happened with his wife and pack, they seldom send him invites for meetings. Today, they all sat round the large conference table in the room, a sad look on their faces.

It was so unlike them to call for a meeting at almost sunset, but the urgency of the situation had made them gather. But for the last thirty minutes, no one was saying a word, each Alpha was lost in their thoughts.

"Can we begin the meeting already? It’s almost nightfall," Jared said breaking the silence.

With a deep sigh, Alpha Kyle who was vice-leader of the council spoke up "Are we certain of the report we got?" he asked

"Yes," Alpha Zed nodded "The people I had stationed in the pack confirmed it, she truly has arrived and she’s come with children?"

"With Children?" the rest of the Alphas exclaimed with unbelief "W-What do you mean? A child after leaving him? Maybe she had it with another man?" Mason said.

"Rumours have it that she’s in a relationship with the Lycan King Noah. Didn’t you notice how he flaunts her? He even made her a member of his closed-door cabinet and she lives in the pack house with him,".

"And the children? Do we know how old they are?" Alpha Jared asked quietly.

"From the time she suddenly went missing until now," Alpha Zed paused as he counted his fingers "Is about four years. So, I believe the kids are around three years old or more,".

"Shit!" Mason grimaced "Do you think she remembers? What if she’s here to tell Xavier what we did? What are we going to do?" he asked agitated

The Alphas exchanged known looks with each other before they collapsed into a fit of laughter. When they had their fill, they turned to Alpha Mason.

"You’re so dumb, Mason," Kyle said "We all know that Xavier is a vegetable and cannot amount to anything. But for his Beta, his pack would have been extinct a long time ago. So, what can he do to us even if she goes to him?"

"But we should be worried too," Mason sighed "What if she remembers? What if she remembers what we did? "

"Let’s not conclude yet," Jared said again "Just have your spies monitor how everything goes and then help us find out first-hand why she’s back here after so many years,".

The Alphas nodded in agreement and the meeting came to an end. Alpha Jared watched as the men filed out, talking amongst themselves as they went... he hated every one of them.

They’ve all had easy lives... most of them became Alphas because their fathers were but for him, he had to fight for it. He sacrificed a lot, emotionally, physically and even mentally to get to where he was.

His father, the former Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack had a lot of children outside marriage and he had been one of them. It had taken him years of intense fighting and strange alliances with a lot of packs from the underworld before he finally took reign.

And in those years of fighting, he had put in a lot of resources, that had made him go broke. He didn’t have any rich uncle to help him... his father had squandered all the Pack resources on women, and drinking. So, he was in desperate need of a get-rich scheme and Alpha Xavier had exactly what he wanted.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair, at this rate, the only thing that came to mind now was to reach out to all the alliances he had built all these years. They’ve always helped him... and it didn’t matter if he had to relinquish a part of the treasure he’d be looting.

The other Alphas thought this was going to be a mere power shift, but Jared wanted Xavier’s Pack. That was the most important thing... that was where the treasure was. If Xavier should get out of the way, then it would be a mission accomplished for him.

Reaching for his phone in his pocket, he dialled a number.

"Alpha," a sweet feminine voice responded from the other end.

"Meet me at our rendezvous in twenty minutes,". Jared said and ended the call.

Twenty minutes later, Jared arrived at an oak boulder that was hidden in the depths of the forest that bordered his pack with the Shadow Hunt Pack. From afar, he spotted the woman, dressed in a long, silky red dress with a blue veil covering her hair.

The corners of his lips lifted into a smirk as he drew closer.

"You’re overdressed today," he said.

The woman jerked with surprise and turned towards the direction of the voice.

"You scared me," she murmured with a smile "I’ve told you to stop creeping up on me like that, you took ten years out of my life,".

"Don’t exaggerate, Belinda," Jared chuckled and drew her into his arms "I’ve missed you," he murmured burying his face into her blond curls.

"I doubt you miss me," Belinda hissed, as her hand circled his middle "You rarely call for me and I know the only reason you called me out of the blues is because you want me to do something for you," she said bitterly.

"And I’ve told you the reason," Jared sighed "We can’t afford to be seen, especially now. There’s too much underway and the Alphas are suddenly cranky. What’s the situation report with Kyle?" Jared asked.

"Nothing much," Belinda shrugged "He’s equipping his soldiers with weapons, two days ago, he signed an arms deal with a supplier from the West. What’s going on? Is there going to be a fight? I thought we agreed that we’d do everything subtly,".

"Uhmm..." Jared grunted absent-mindedly, as he wondered why Kyle was signing an Arms Deal that no one knew of.

"How about the rest of the Alphas?" he asked looking at Belinda.

"Well, they’re all training their soldiers... nothing serious," She shrugged.

It’s normal to always equip your military, especially in their world where attacks could happen without prior notification but what was strange was the Arms Deal Kyle was signing. Jared shook his head, as he turned his attention to Belinda who was still buried in his arms.

He had saved her some years ago from an invasion of their small town, she was a Witch and werewolves for years now, were on a special mission to hunt down witches. It was an agelong quarrel that had been passed down from one generation to the other.

Although they related with other mythical creatures like Elves, faires and maybe vampires, it was a known fact that all werewolves hated witches and the practice of it.

Despite trying to mend the rift several times, they just couldn’t stand them. When Jared was younger and one of the ways he had gained a lot of fighting experience was during their packs hunt for witches.

They would travel for days, armed with fire touches and wild garlic that they all wear to make themselves immune to spells they witches may likely catch and then go ahead to burn down everyone in their settlements. Even the children were not spared.

So, Witches were constantly on the run from Werewolves who hunted them like games. At that time, Belinda had been 10 years old and had huddled close to her dead mother wailing.

Jared had taken an interest in how beautiful the young girl was even at her tender age, he felt drawn to her, so he had saved her. After saving her, he made her stay with her for years until she knew everything about werewolves and since then, she has been his wild card.

Her beauty was blinding and due to her powers, she could easily charm anyone she set her heart to. She had been his tool against Xavier and had facilitated the untimely separation between him and his wife.

She is also his eyes on the other Alphas, for nearly three years, she was dating all of them, taking turns staking out in a particular pack to learn of all they’re doing and report back to him.

"Did something out of the ordinary happen recently?" Jared asked.

"Out of the ordinary?" Her eyes widened in deep thought, and after a while, she shook her head "None that I know of. Did you hear something?"

"Selene," Jared said watching her "Selene – Xavier’s wife is back,".

"Back?" her beautiful eyes widened more in shock as she left his arms to stare at him "I don’t understand?"

"She’s back to Greyhound, Belinda... Selene Xavier is back...".
