Selene POV

The ride back home was quiet.

Vina asked me several times if I was angry that we wasted more than an hour at the mall and I had to reassure her that wasn’t the problem. The memory of Xavier leaning across the table to kiss Belinda was stamped in my mind.

Each time I remembered it, my heart would swell with jealousy.

"So much for turning a new leaf," I murmured under my breath resting my head on the headrest of the car.

Somehow, I was thankful that I wouldn’t put up with his discrepancies anymore. I would put everything behind me when we finally leave Greyhound Pack. As soon as we arrived at the Packhouse, I asked the girls to go back to our room while I went to look for Noah.

Since I saw Belinda and Xavier kissing at the mall, it made me want to protect the relationship I had with Noah the more. I checked his bedroom but he wasn’t there. Neither was he in the living room.

I checked my phone to see if he dropped where he was going to but there was no message notification from him. This was unlike him. I decided to check behind the Packhouse in the garden to see if he was there. As I started down the stairs outside the pack house, I spotted him talking with Belinda at the base of the stairs.

She touched his arms for a moment not before I saw her run her fingers up and down his biceps. Anger surged through me blinding me with rage as I started down the stairs.

"Noah!" I tried to sound calm "Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Where were you?"

Both of them turned to look in my direction and immediately, a smile crept onto Belinda’s lips and spread to her face enhancing her already beautiful features. Moving away from where she was standing opposite Noah, she rushed towards me and hugged me.

"Selene," she said happily "It’s so nice to see you after all these years. Oh my gosh!" she took a step backwards "You look the same as before except you’ve grown fat but in a good way, right?"

Noah didn’t say anything. He glanced at me before his gaze settled on Belinda "I’ll allow you to catch up on old times," he said. Giving me a nod, he brushed past us continuing into the house. My heart sank with fear and I tried to follow him only to be yanked backwards by Belinda.

By this time, Noah had disappeared into the house without a backward glance. Annoyed, I turned to Belinda and pulled my hands away from her grip.

"What are you up to, again?" I asked.

"Oh," the smile that had been there a while ago was replaced by a cold scowl. "You know... I heard that you’re now with the Lycan King and I got curious to see what he looks like and what you could have possibly done to make him fall in love with him,".

"What do you want, Belinda?" I asked calmly "Haven’t you done enough? What else do you want?"

"The truth?" she palace a hand on her lips as if she was lost in thought "Since you returned, Xavier has been acting weird coupled with the fact that he kissed you and both of you already fucked. I thought for a moment that you were trying to come back only for me to hear that you’re now engaged to the King himself. You’re quite the slut, Selene...".

"Is that all you have?" I questioned with a snort "Are you interested in Noah too? You know you can do whatever you want to. I didn’t stop you in the past and I won’t now. Also, I know you need my permission to sleep with both men... you have my blessings dear.

I smiled with relish as she opened her mouth severally to reply but no words would come out. I knew without doubt that she’s been trying to pick a fight with me since I came here.

Without waiting for her, I ran up the stairs taking them two at a time. I immediately made a beeline for Noah’s room and gave a short knock on the door before I ushered myself in. I met him changing out of his clothes in front of the full-length mirror.

"Hi," I greeted him, sounding breathless "What were you talking about with, Belinda?"

"What I was talking about?" he gave me a quizzical look "What do you think we would be talking about?"

"Noah please," I sighed crossing the room to where he was "I don’t want to fight. What were you discussing with her?" I demanded again.

His movements paused as he stared at me from the mirror. Almost when I thought he would not reply, He exhaled as he slipped out of his trousers, clad only in his briefs.

"She was telling me how you were such good friends before you left and how she’s glad that you’re back and a bunch of other stuff,".

"What bunch of other stuff?" I asked, "Tell me everything without leaving anything out,".

"You can’t be serious," he murmured and tossed his shirt over his head. When he looked back at me, he saw the seriousness on my face and turned to face me. "Wait... are you serious? You want me to recount word for word what our conversation was about?"

"That’s precisely what I want you to do, Noah. You have no idea how dangerous Belinda is. She sows seeds of discord into people’s minds. She’s the reason I and Xavier drifted apart the first time and...".

"I don’t have time for this nonsense, Selene," Noah cut me short "In case you’ve forgotten, I am the king and if any of my subjects want to stop and have a chat with me, I should do that with them. I will not embroil myself in any drama that concerns you and Xavier,".

"This isn’t about me or Xavier," I shouted, feeling frustrated "This is about you, Noah. I’m scared that something will happen between us and I don’t want that. In case you don’t know, she was the woman who ran out of Xavier’s office the other day crying. You remember? That same day you proposed? Who knows what she’s up to?"

"Well, I am not, Xavier..." Noah finally said "In the last 7 fucking years, I’ve not been with a woman. Do you know how many women have thrown themselves at me? That woman doesn’t even hold a touch to Kathrine or Benita or even Ashley who are highly connected women from highly connected families and yet in all those years, I simply admired them enough not to have them in my bed. Stop comparing me with Xavier...".

I gritted my teeth in annoyance "I am not comparing you... I just want you to be careful. Is it too much to ask for?"

"Yes," He yelled "I have done enough already, Selene. Wait a minute," he ran his hand through his hair "Are you seriously worried because you care and not because I am like some retirement, escape plan from your mate who you still very much love?"

My heart thumped in my chest as I stared at him guiltily...

"W-What do you mean?" I asked.

"Oh, please, Selene..." he gave a dry, mirthless laugh "You think I don’t have eyes... You think I cannot sense how much you want to be with him. What am I to you, Selene? Do I mean anything to you aside from some escape route? Are you worried that Belinda would change my mind towards you and make you get stuck here in Greyhound?"

I didn’t have the answer to any of his questions. So, I just stared at him blankly.

"I thought as much," he said after a while and took a deep breath "I think we’re making a mistake, Selene,".

"No..." I mouthed shaking my head "No..."

"It’s obvious that Xavier still wants you and the girls they want their father. I can’t leave the rest of my life being reminded that they do not belong to me or go down as a shameless uncle who stole his nephew’s mate. Maybe..." he trailed off running a hand through his hair again "Maybe we should just call it quits. I’ll go back to Moon Whisper and you can stay here with your family,".

"No!" I screeched grabbing his hand "I want to be with you, Noah. I can’t stand being with Xavier... never again in my life,".

"But you don’t love me, Selene... for a union to work, there must be love as the baseline. There’s none... you’re not even attracted to me in the least. If more than anything, you’ve avoided me all this while and I know it’s because you don’t want me to touch you,". freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"That’s not true," I felt my voice crack as my vision blurred with tears. It felt like I was losing him "You know that’s not true. I just don’t want any trouble. I want us to leave here, so I can be free. X... Xavier has promised to reject me officially after all of this. I will lose his mark and then you can make me yours. Please, Noah... I want you,".

"It’ll only make you unhappy," he sighed "I’ve seen mates who divorced and remarried because they couldn’t go on. Xavier is still alive, and you have kids for him. There’ll always be a connection. You think the chances of going back to him now and again won’t be there?"

"Noah, please..." I cried... I didn’t even know what I was crying for.

"Anytime you’re not with me and you come here, I would not be fine because I’ll be worried that you’re going to cheat on me with him,".

"That’s not true," I shook my head desperately "The first time was a mistake and it was because I had no commitments with you. Now that I am your fiancée, I can’t do that. I promise. Okay...".

I took deep restorative breaths trying to gather my frayed nerves

"Tell me anything... anything at all you want me to do to prove that I want to be with you and I am sure that when we spend time together I will fall in love with you. I’m positive about that,".

He studied me for a while "Anything?" he arched his brow in my direction.

"Yes," I nodded "Anything,".

"Fine" he nodded as he stared steadily at me "Then get pregnant!"
