The Almighty Dragon Rider Returns-Chapter 26: You Are A Life Saver
Kael smile turned into a smirk as he raised his padded fists. "Don’t worry, Starweaver. I will go easy on you."
Reynold’s lips also curled in a dry smirk. "Careful, rich kid. Do not hurt your wrist carrying that ego around."
Reynold’s retort made some cadets to let out a low chuckle from the sidelines, and Kael’s eyes narrowed, his pretense dropping instantly.
"Alright, Cadets!" the Professor called ou. "You can now start!"
Kael was the first to move. He was very quick and also almost sloppy as he aimed for Reynold’s head. Reynold easily dodged it, kael padded fist whooshing past his ear.
Instead of moving back, Reynold turned, driving his shoulder into Kael’s chest guard. It was a move that Reynold thought it will throw Kael off balance.
Kael grunted, stumbling back a step, but he quickly regained his balance. He shifted his weight, trying out a low sweeping kick, but it was like as if Reynold was expecting it, making him to hop back and used the chance to spring forward with a straight punch at Kael.
THWACK.
The blow landed on Kael’s chest plate. Kael shifted back with a gasped, his breath almost knocked out, and he responded with two fast hooks. But Reynold caught the first hook on his forearm guard and twisted it, using the padded material to deflect the second hook. He used the opportunity to grab Kael’s right arm and pull him close, giving him a a knee lift towards his stomach.
Kael managed to twist away, the padded knee only touching his side, but the force made him shift in position and put him on the defensive end. He pushed Reynold back with a quick shove.
"Not bad, Cadets!" the Professor shouted. "Keep up the pressure!"
Reynold pressed again. He pretended as if he was going for a high punch then immediately dropped low, grabbing Kael’s ankle. Kael let out a cry as he went down and hitting the sand with a his back.
Almost immediately, Reynold straddled Kael’s chest and pinning both his arms to the ground with his knees and hands.
Kael gritted his teeth, struggling to break the hold, and his face turning into a frown.
He was so pissed that Reynold is having the advantage right now.
The crowd erupted, some shouting for Kael to concede, others were just enjoying the shock.
" Don’t be a dick, Vynsar. Just tap out, he already has you!" a cadet yelled.
Reynold leaned in with a smirk on his face, "Are you still holding back rich kid?"
Kael did not even bother to answer. His eyes shifted down to Reynold’s body over him before his left hand, which Reynold’s knee was not holding tightly, slipped downwards. His movements was fast that on one saw it coming. And before Reynold could even register why Kael shifted, his hand move back up.
Reynold’s eyes widened in pure shock seeing what it was but before he could react, the knife was pushed into his stomach.
Pain exploded in Reynold’s stomach.
GGRROOAANN.
A painful sound left Reynold’s throat. His hands instinctively flew down, and holding at the stomach, but Kael was already twisting the knife more inside Reynold’s stomach which sent another pain through Reynold’s body.
Reynold’s head lifted slowly, his eyes filled with shock and pure pain met Kael’s eyes. But Kael did not even wait. He used the distraction, and the sudden collapse of Reynold’s strength, to shove the body above him.
Reynold was thrown violently off, landing hard on his back on the sand. A choked scream left his lips as the action made the knife shake.
Blood immediately started to stream from the wound, staining the front of Reynold’s padded armor.
The cadets gasped with a horrified shock. Some stumbled back, with their hands flying to their mouths, and their faces pale.
Kael did not even spare a glance. He scrambled to his feet, threw a wild-eyed look at the Reynold, and ran. He was gone before anyone could recover.
Reynold was groaning in pain with his one hand pressed near the knife, his face was already turning pale.
"Dammit!" the Professor cussed, dropping a clipboard she she was holding.
She scraped Reynold up into her arms. Reynold groaned. He hate to be carried like a child, but the painful pressure in his stomach made him completely not to care. The pain was all over his boy and his eyes were starting to turn him.
The Professor rushed out of the ring, carrying him tightly. "Get out of the way!"
The professor rushed into the infirmary through the double doors.
"HEALER! NOW!" the Professor yelled, laying Reynold gently onto the cot very close to her.
Immediately, a figure in simple white dress came. The Healer was a woman with dark hair. Shw stopped dead when she saw the knife, the blood-soaked uniform, and Reynold’s pale face.
She said. "By the flames...".
The Professor was already stripping the damaged padding away.
Reynold could only let out a choked moan, his hand clenching the cot sheet, his whole body tense.
The Healer looked at Reynold. "I want you to hold tight, csdet. It is going to hurt."
Before Reynold could even process what the healer said, the healer gripped the knife and pulled it out.
SCREEEEEEEAM!
Reynold’s cry sounded in the room and he arched his back, tears already coming out from his slightly shut eyes.
A silver light began to emanate from the healer’s palms. She pressed her hands lightly above the wound. She was focusing on the inside wound first.
Another wave of pain hit Reynold as the light tocuhed the wound. He screamed again, his legs thrashing against the sheets. It felt like his insides were being stitched together.
"Hold him, Professor!" the healer said, her brow already filled with sweat.
The Professor gripped Reynold’s shoulders, holding him steady as the healing magic did the work.
Then, gradually, the pain started to subside. The screaming also stopped. The internal bleeding was stopped.
Reynold gasped, the pain slowly releasing from his body. His head fell back onto the pillow, sweat already drenching his hair, and his body exhausted.
The Healer now focused her glowing hands on the outside wound. It was not painful this time. The light pulled the torn skin and muscle together. Within seconds, the silver glow vanished.
Reynold let out a relieved sigh and slowly brought his head down to look. The skin was perfectly intact. He hesitated before he ran his hand over the place to see that it was smoot, as if the injury did not happened.
He sighed again and fell back against the pillow.
The Professor nodded. "Thank you."
The Healer gave a tired laugh. "Just keep your cadets from cutting each other, Professor." She looked at Reynold, her voice gentler. "The boy is tough."
After saying that, she walked away, leaving Reynold and the Professor alone.
"Do you have any idea," the Professor asked, her voice serious, "why Vynsar would do something like that?"
Reynold cursed under his breath, pushing himself up to sit up. The smell of the herbs was starting to turn his stomach.
"He probably thinks my late parents are the reason his father got demoted in ranking,"
The Professor nodded slowly. "I’ll handle it. Rest assured, he will not get away with this. Now, how are you feeling?"
"Better," Reynold said, already swinging his legs off the side of the cot.
He stood up. The smell of the different herbs was suddenly becoming to much for him.
Before the Professor could insist he stay, Reynold cut her off. "I’m fine, Professor. You do not have to worry. I’m going back to my dorm to rest up."
He did not wait for a reply, he just walked out quickly, his hand clenching at his side.
That b@stard Kael. Reynold clenched hand became more tight as the image of Kel face was replaying in his mind. There was no way he, Reynold Starweaver was letting this go. Never!
He reached his dorm and threw himself onto the bed as he was too tired of doing anything right now. He fell asleep instantly.
....
A Knock on his dorm room was what wake him up.
Reynold groaned, lifting his head off the pillow and squinting at the light coming in the window. It was a little dark now.
He stumbled to the door and pulled it open.
"Gwyn?"
Gwyn wast standing there, holding a cardboard box.
Reynold cursed under his breath. "It’s 7 P.M. already? I fucking missed the six P.M. meal!"
Gwyn ignored his curse. She quickly put the box on the floor, her eyes flying to his stomach. Seeing wounds, she let out a sigh of relief.
She then picked the box, and threw it at his chest. "Food. Your dorm mate told me what happened during sparring when I came to remind you about the party. So i thought you might not make it to the cafeteria for the evening food."
Reynold’s face turn into a pure relief. "Gwyn, you are a life saver."
He did not even wait for her to reply before tearing the box open and inhaling the scent of roast meat and spiced rice. He started eating fastly.
Only after he had eaten half the food did his eyes then shifted on Gwyn. Now he could see clearly what she was wearing. She was wearing a stunning black gown that skimmed her figure and it is held up by thin silver chain straps. A silver necklace was on her neck, and her dark hair was packed up, making her earing so visible.
Reynold swallowed a mouthful of rice. "You... you look good, Gwyn."
"Thanks, Reynold. I don’t think you will be going to the party, considering."
"Just a minute," Reynold mumbled and shoving the box aside. He walked to his small wardrobe, pulling out a simple, black shirt and fitted trousers. "Will be right out."
He rushed into the bathroom, stripping off his blood-stained sweaty uniform for a quick bath.
