Chapter 35: Reynold Starweaver Killed A Boy

It was only when the second year cadet pointed and shouted Reynold’s name that every head turned, and that was when everybody thete realized the famous Starweaver boy, the boy bonded to three dragons was actually there with them.

Gwyn’s hand was still on Reynold’s arm, pulling him back. Reynold, however, did not move.

"Reynold Starweaver? I place my wager on the Second-Year cadet! No offense, Starweaver, but the year two guy got actual sparring experience, and your three dragons are not even here to shield you, are they? Hahaha! This is gonna be fun!"

The Second-Year cadet the one who had jumped into the ring is a Rider and he has a blonde hair. He smirk hearing what the boy from the crowd said..

He shifted his eyes toward Reynold with the smirk still on his face.

"So what is it going to be, huh?" the blonde boy said, his voice laced with arrogance. "You in or out?"

Gwyn’s grip on Reynold tightened, and she opened her mouth to say something on his behalf but Reynold’s hand softly wrapped around her arm that was holding him. He shook his head once and muttered "Its’s fine." To Gwyn before he walked straight into the ring.

As Reynold stepped over the line, the crowd turned into a mixture of loud cheers and mocking laughter.

The stout girl with the whistle, the referee, raised both her arms. "Well, let the fight begin!"

Before the referee could even finish the word ’begin,’ the blonde-haired boy charged forward towards Reynold. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

His footwork was not bad. He look like who has been taking training since he was five. His body movements were even agile. He stretched out his right hand, clenching it and ready to release the first blow.

Reynold was ready. The Second-Year status meant the boy’s fighting skills were great from more training and his physical strength was definitely greater than a First-Year cadet.

Just before the punch landed, Reynold did not block or use brute force, instead he moved his body sideways, dropping his body into a low slide, and sent a blow right at the blonde’s flank like the side of his stomach, where the ribs were most vulnerable.

The blow was not that powerful, but it was perfectly timed and aimed. The blonde did not even seen it coming. The force of the blow, combined with him charging, sent him staggering sideways. He stumbled against the chain-link wall of the ring before dropping to a knee on the dusty ground.

The crowd went wild and the cheers now became more loud. Gwyn, though, was not even laughing or cheering. She was holding her breath and her eyes were wide as she prayed for the fight to end quickly.

The blonde boy gritted his teeth and scrambled back up. His smirk was gone and replaced by pure rage.

"You little punk!" he snarled and immediately stand up. This time, he did not charge but he feinted left, then spun right, letting out a sweeping kick aimed at Reynold’s knees.

Reynold jumped, clearing the kick easily, but the movement left him briefly airborne. The blonde boy was already coming close and using the chance to trap Reynold against the fence. He slammed his body into Reynold, pinning him hard against the steel mesh..

"You Starweavers always think you’re better than everyone else!" the blonde boy spat, driving an elbow toward Reynold’s head. Reynold ducked just in time, the elbow slamming into the fence next to his ear. "But you are nothing! Just a dead-end family full of weaklings! And you are just like your parents, always chasing after things they could not handle. Why do you think they never made it back from the last war, huh?"

The boy’s words only made Reynold to boil. His body went utterly still, his eyes turning very cold. The mention of his parents hit a raw nerve.

"Don’t talk about them," Reynold muttered, his voice dangerously low.

"Oh, what’s the matter, did i hit your weak point or did the truth hurt?" The blonde boy pushed harder seeing that his words was having effect on Reynold. He was laughing as he used his superior weight to keep Reynold crushed against the fence.

"They are dead and the worst part, You will never find out what happened, because you’re a.."

A terrifying energy ripped through the air as a chaotic, silver-blue light suddenly pulsed outward from Reynold’s chest. His eyes for a split second glowed the same colour as the energy.

It was pure magic that was raw, untrained, and worst uncontrolled.

The invisible force that was more of a pure kinetic energy started erupting from Reynold. The blonde boy who was pressing against him one moment, was send flying backward the next and he soared over the center of the ring and he hit the heavy chain-link fence on the opposite side with a CRACK and crumpling the steel inward before dropping to the dusty floor like a discarded doll.

Everywhere became silence. The loud noise of the Pits died completely. The cheers, and laughter all ceased. Every single person stared at the prone figure on the ground.

The blonde-haired cadet was not moving.

Reynold stared at his own hands, his chest was heaving fast... The silver-blue light vanishing almost immediately.

Fear and cold ran through Reynold’s body. Dragon Riders do not have magic so what in the name of the flame just happened?

Reynold looked down at his hand before he rushed over to the blonde’s side, dropping to his knees. The boy’s body was slack. Reynold pressed two fingers against the neck.

Nothing. The boy was not breathing. He had killed him.

Everything happened so fast. Just then a chill wind swept across the dusty Pits. It was not the natural air. It was a disturbance.

Nymeria appeared out of the sudden wind. She was dressed in her academy uniform, her white attachment braids blowing around her face. Her hand immediately went to the simple lock around her neck that was used to lock her mind magic away. The lock glitched as a single blinding flash of white light came out. And immediately, the crushing weight of every single person’s raw emotion, the fear, shock and confusion hit Nymeria and she stumbled but quickly steady herself. She closed her eyes to concentrate. She opened her arms wide as she started whispering... "Let the memory be dust. You did not see him killing the boy. You saw a good fight between two Magic user. The winner left. Now go!"

Every cadet in the Pits except from Reynold seemed to shake their heads, as if clearing a sudden thought. Their wide eyed expressions turned into vague confusion. The chess players simply picked up their pieces again. The card players slapped down their card and the entire crowd, without a word, began to leave the Pits. Even Gwyn, standing just outside the ring, blinked, rubbed her eyes, and started walking away, her expression blank.

Nymeria fell on her feet, the mind wipe memory she had performed all at once drained her.. She crumpled slightly, her strength utterly gone.

Reynold shifted his eyes away from the dead boy, rushed forward, catching her before she hit the ground. He held her tight, his own body trembling with shock and fear.

"What did you do?" he demanded. "What was that?"

Nymeria leaned against him, her face pale, the magic was taking a toll on her. She looked past Reynold and to the dead body on the ground and a single tear was falling on her cheek.

"Do you have any idea who the father of the boy you just murdered is?" she murmured. She looked up into Reynold’s horrified eyes. "May the flames help us both."
